Transcript of March april 2016 newsletter
So much is hap-
pening it might
take a lot more
space than is here
on this page to
cover. The Febru-
ary meeting at
Blue Dolphin was
attended by 24
members as well
as a guest and his
family who have
made the decision
to join us as our
newest member.
The new proposed
bylaws were re-
viewed with no
suggestions for re-
visions or addi-
tions, however
there were some
clarifications or
interpretations
discussed.
We also were pre-
sented with plans
for a new layout of
the show field that
removes conflict
between the enter-
tainment and the
administrative po-
sitions.
We intend to
make the work of
our registration
and vote tallying
easier for those
working those
needed elements.
Simply put we are
moving the main
tent from prox-
imity with the
show field to the
other side of the
entry bridge. This
step eliminates
the annoying
noise when the la-
dies are trying to
tally the votes as
well as giving
them more time to
file the records of
the cars on the
field without hav-
ing interruptions
for information
that can be better
handled by other
personnel.
Another issue that
was discussed was
the issue of for
sale signs on the
show field. The de-
cision made is
that a tasteful
sign not to exceed
the size of an in-
dex card would be
permitted.
Our next meeting
will be April 4th
at 6:00PM at the
Blue Dolphin. We
will vote on adopt-
ing the new by-
laws then.

SECRETARY’S REPORT
Page 2 TIOGA TRANSMISSION
I know, I know I have a
tendency to push my luck
when it comes to my col-
lector cars. My only ex-
cuse is that I believe a car
is meant to be driven. So
yes, I once again pushed
my opening of the driving
season for the collectors
that I own that are on the
road.
March 5th I just had to
get the VW out to see
what it would need to be
ready for the 2016 driving
season. The car fired well
but soon started to show
me that in addition to the
problem of a sagging
front end, the engine is
running too rich. Could
the choke be sticking?
My five mile, give or take
shakedown run with the
“Bug” was still fun as it
was good to be able to run
a car that needed to have
my input in the transmis-
sion. It’s amazing that a
1600 CC engine can still
kick up it’s heels when
leaving the traffic lights!
Since Cheryl was home
for Sunday the 6th I
spent the day at church,
home, and a visit to a
friends home for supper.
Monday the 7th though
was a different matter.
Cheryl again had a sub
job at school so….. “When
the cat is away the mice
will play.”
It was now time to wake
the Monte Carlo! With
the temperature hovering
around 50 and the sun
shining, “Carla” needed to
be coaxed for several min-
utes to settle down to a
smooth runner.
The little bit of dust that
had accumulated on the
car needed to be removed
so the first step was to
visit the car wash, yes I
know that is the lazy way
to do it but my delicate
hands don’t like to get
wet in cold weather.
The car was running so
well that I could not re-
sist a short detour to ex-
tend my time driving
what is still my favorite
of my collector cars.
Have you ever noticed
that when you are in a
car that is running right
it seems to take over and
dictate that you keep
driving especially when
there is no one watching.
My five mile shake down
run became a thirty or
forty mile expedition in
the country.
I know it would be an ex-
aggeration to call this
time early spring, but
that is what it was feeling
like during this delightful
run through south Vestal.
Yes I even did a run up
the mountain to Kopernik
observatory and contin-
ued along Ridge Road on
the return home.
The only concern with
“Carla” was the small
puddle of oil on the floor
of the garage where she
had set over the winter.
“Carla” is raring to go but
“Ruby” needs attention.
SUMMER IS JUST
AROUND THE COR-
NER!!!!!!!!!
GOOD NEWS-BAD NEWS

Page 4 Newsletter Title
On the preceding page as
well as the remaining
pages you will find copies
of correspondence that
have come in in the last
month that were ad-
dressed to the club or a
reproduction of the Rum-
mage Box, a publication
of AACA national that
contains information vital
to the continued growth
of not only AACA Na-
tional but also Tioga Re-
gion.
In the letter from Bob
Perrish I have to admit
that it is more work than
we are capable of to host
a National Meet as we did
about 10 years ago, but it
might be possible for us
to host a tour of the finger
lakes either as a Foun-
ders tour (post1931) or a
Glidden Tour (pre 1931).
The above tours could
possibly be co-sponsored
by either Genesee Valley
or Finger Lakes regions.
We already have a work-
ing relationship with
Genesee Valley and I am
sure that Finger Lakes
would be easy to contact.
Car people enjoy meeting
others of their fellow en-
thusiasts.
The flyer for the AACA
museum in Hershey lists
several events and exhib-
its either occurring now
or in this year. There is
also a list of vehicles that
have been donated to the
museum in the past year.
Some of the donated cars
might be available for
purchase if they are of in-
terest.
Cheryl and I had the luck
to visit the museum on
February 2nd and while
there we met Stan Sipko
who is the museum cura-
tor. Stan took the time to
show us the largest ped-
dle car I have ever seen
and then helped us to
contact the owner of that
car so that we could ask
him to bring it to our
show. There is no foto
shop involved in this pic-
ture, that is the size of
the car! You will notice if
you look closely that
there is in the back-
ground the Chitty Chitty
Bang Bang from the flyer
and movie.
The reproduction of the
Rummage Box has infor-
mation that I feel is perti-
nent to our club and it be-
came important that I in-
clude it in this copy of Ti-
oga Transmission.
I am especially Impressed
with the writing of Bob
Parrish on the first page.
Bob definitely nailed it
when he pointed out that
we all have different rea-
sons for our membership
in AACA. I hope that no
matter what your reasons
for membership, Tioga
Region can answer each
of your needs this year!
We definitely have a vari-
ety of events planned!
