Spotlight on New MemberInterAct Story Theatre

The Wheaton & Kensington Chamber of Commerce welcomes new member InterAct Story Theatre, based inWheaton. InterAct Story Theatre is a professional theatrefor young audiences, and an arts education organization thathas been touring, bringing performances and arts educationprograms to schools and communities throughout the region, across the country, and around the world.

“We specialize in arts integration – teaching important skills like reading, writing, and math through the arts,” saysExecutive and Artistic Director Ali Oliver-Krueger, “and webelieve passionately that every child deserves great theatre…whether or not your parents can take you to a theatre building.” It’s a mission that takes Oliver-Krueger and hercompany far and wide – last year, InterAct Story Theatrebrought performances and arts education programs to over26,000 children, parents, and teachers throughout the area.

While the company has been touring for many years, theyhave recently turned their attention to the local communityto put down roots. Since achieving 501(c)(3) status, InterActStory Theatre has launched a number of successful children’splays locally, most recently “Not My Monkey” at theGaithersburg Arts Barn, written and directed by Oliver-

Krueger.The playwas called“thought-provokingand family-friendly”as well as being“an uproari-ouslyfunny,

colorful, and acrobatic romp” by DC Metro Theatre Arts.

For their next project – in September 2015, the company willrun 12 performances of “The Hero of EVERYTHING”, aninteractive play for children ages 4 and up, at the SilverSpring Black Box. Next spring they plan to launch a Family Performing Arts Series in Wheaton. Oliver-Kruegersays, “Wheaton is designated as an Arts and EntertainmentDistrict, and InterAct Story Theatre wants to do our part, bringing plays and performances for children and families. We’ve gotten great support for the idea already. Our mainhurdle right now is finding a temporary performance space in Wheaton. Once we have that in place, we’re fullsteam ahead!”
