  • In just a few short decades, the role of women has radically changedwithin todays society due to economic conditions and social demands.Todays women constitute nearly half of the work force. The dayswhen single-income households was the norm, are now a long-gone thingof the past. Reality has left many women at the intersection of juggling theobligations of motherhood and relationships, compounded by the addedpressures and responsibility of caring for an elderly parent/parents, with aneducation and career. There is a huge amount of stress and pressure placedon women professionally and personally in todays society. Being adaughter, mother, single parent, wife, widow, divorcee or being separatedhas placed extra financial stress upon women. The dynamic of the workenvironment has exerted enormous pressure on working women as theyneed to cope with virtually two full time jobs.

Women all experience stress in different ways. Theytend to have a nurturing response that can put them in aposition where they are trying to care for everyone butthemselves. Stress is a natural part of our daily life andeveryone will experience it at some point. Stress isntalways a bad thing. It can be positive and motivating, pushing us past our comfort zone and challenging us toachieve our goals. Unfortunately, left untreated long-termcan become destructive, impacting all key areas within ourdaily life. For some women, chronic stress builds up, andwithout knowing, can become a common way oflife. Quite often women are so busy that they do nottake time to slow down long enough to see how it isnegatively affecting them, leaving life unbalanced. As stress increases, it can lead to various healthissues. Over time, it weakens our immune systemsand makes us susceptible to a variety of ailmentsfrom colds to headaches or back aches to increasingthe risk of Heart Disease and Stroke. Significant emotionalor psychological stress can cause psychological imbalanceleading to hair thinning and hair loss (alopecia), poordigestion system, increased stomach acid, indigestion &discomfort, ulcers, and in some cases, Irritable BowelSyndrome (IBS). Depression can further alter a womansbody hormone balance, leading to missed, late or irregularperiods or reduced sex drive, adding weight gain or theonset of insomnia to name a few.

There seems to be a never-ending debate within todayssociety about women having to choose between a career orhaving a family with its obligations. Juggling both isnteasy. In fact, it is hard as hell. The big question is Can awoman juggle family and career with as little stress aspossible? The answer to this debate is a resoundingYES.It is time to be honest with ourselves and have a realconversation about prioritizing and finding a healthybalance on a day-to-day basis, so we can all lead a full andproductive life. This includes a successful and rewarding

career/work, as well as a strong and happy familyfoundation for ourselves and our families.

For many women, the pursuit of a healthycareer & family-life balance seems like animpossible goal, with so many women torn betweenhandling heavy workloads, managing relationship& family responsibilities, and trying to squeeze in

hobbies and interests. It is important to be mindful of thechoices you make for your personal health and well-being.Nothing is more important than taking care of yourself. Setaside quality time each day for YOU. Wellness and fitnessinvolves being aware and making choices to be active, eating healthy and improving your emotional well-being.This is the most important investment you can make in life.Striving for the best possible balance in both personally andprofessionally is the ideal goal.

Quite often women are so busy that they do nottake time to slow down long enough to see how it is

    negatively affecting them, leaving lifeunbalanced.

    Set asidequality timeeach day for

    YOU

Your first step is to let go of your guilt. A guilty conscience islike a heavy chain weighing you down each day on your

performance and personal/future growth. This means youare constantly thinking about what is happening at homewhile you are working. Negative thoughts will only breedmore negative thoughts. So be careful of your thoughts, asthey are more powerful than you. Having a career while

working is healthy for professional growth and to provide asolid foundation for yourself and your family.

There are many options available to women today.

Be creative when it comes to childcare

    Have a list of well-experienced day-care centers,nannies and baby-sitters

Use family and friends when offered. A fantastic way offinding the right child-care is by word-of-mouth and bytalking to family, friends or neighbors.

When choosing a child-care center, there are a fewthings to look for. Begin by calling your Child CareResource and Referral (CCR&R) Agency, who will beable to provide the facts about child-care options in yourlocal area that meet your family requirements. AskedThe Questions What are the licensing requirements inmy area? How can I get information about complaintsand licensing violations? Does my family qualify forany child-care financial assistance programs?

Visit the child-care center options that you areconsidering and ask questions as well; for example, theadult-to-child Ratio, Group Size (how many children ineach group), Caregiver Qualifications, Turnover, andAccreditation by a National Organization.

Make a choice you are comfortable with and stayinvolved.

Tips and SuggestionsCreate A Practical Family

Calendar Sit with your family and get organized. Be creative

to design a calendar which suits your familyobligations, comings & goings, appointments, work

schedules, travel dates, school or family events, chores and so forth. It can be a little challenging

getting everyones schedules in sync, but it will bewell worth the initial effort.

Balancing work and family is sometimes complex. Ithas no one-size-fits-all solution. Each individual coupleand family unit will have their own unique preferenceand needs. The most important thing we can do is haveopen communication with our partner/children and loveones. Balancing both family and career is a process of

trials and errors. Remember, the process of balancemeans you must adjust as required and no decision or

    plan should be permanent.

  • Page 13

Constant flexibility and adjustments will keep you ontrack towards your goals and priorities. How do you knowwhen you have found the right balance for your uniquefamily? Having enough plan B solutions for your familyin case of minor emergencies that make you comfortable.Having enough time for both work and family withoutfeeling stress and anxiety so your life feels relativelycomfortable and balanced. Being on the right pathpersonally and professionally. Moving forward towardsgoals and dreams. Having Me time; it is important to findat least an hour, sometime toward the end of each day to sitquietly, read, have a bubble bath, catch up with a friendover coffee, go to the gym or walk without distractions. After all, we all need to rest and recharge our batteries. Ifyou have convinced yourself that you are just too busy tomanage an hour to yourself, then it is especially crucial tofind that me time.

Positive lifestyle changes will have an immediateimpact on your health. When you have a positive andstrong foundation, you have the strength and confidence tomove forward with your goals and dreams. Remember thatwork is not the only facet to your life. In these demandingtimes, it is easy to focus more on the work place thanpersonal life. Make sure you take time to relax, calm down,

surround yourself with friends who are positive, encouraging and helpful. Dont compare yourself to othersat work or in your personal life. Take time tolaughlaughter is a powerful and positive medicine.

Trust yourself and your abilities. You are a talented andpassionate woman with amazing skills to bring to youremployer or business. Your intuition, enthusiasm and ideasare unique and incredibly valuable. Be obsessed withbecoming a woman comfortable in her own skin. Bepositive and motivated in reaching all your professional andpersonal dreams and goals. Do something extraordinary andaccept lifes opportunities and challenges, as it is growth. Ifyou dont step outside your comfort zone, you will neverknow how tall you truly are. Every day we are given theopportunity to choose and mould our futureit is whatdetermines our tomorrow, the following week, month oryear. Be the most beautiful vision of yourself because theworld awaits your brilliance. Dont be afraid to celebrateand love the real you! The common goal for everyone inlife should be to achieve happiness, follow your passion, and achieve self-acceptance thru your goals and dreams. You deserve and owe it to yourself to create the bestpossible life for yourself!

FGBG For God, By God is a Christian Brand thatsprang almost immediately to life upon Gods commandbeginning with just one single entity: The FGBG ChristianApparel which is its first roll-out.

The idea for FGBG Apparel was derived from aninspirational message that its visionary, Rev. MyraMcCullough, originally wrote for her FastWednesdays Fellowship (a Fasting Ministry), as itsweekly Fast Food Word for the Day. That daysparticular message was designed to speak to thediscouragement of Gods people who sometimesfind themselves struggling to identify their purposeand worth.

The below is the FGBG Story stated in Rev. McCulloughsown words:

There is so much discouragement in this world, evenamongst Gods people, as well as low self-esteem, and a

lack of a healthy sense of self-worth.yes, even amongstGods people. So the premise of FGBG is to first remind Gods people andeven those who are not yet Gods people, of who and whose

they are (or are supposed to be). Who are they? They are Gods creation, thus..they were createdBY God. Inside the warmth and protection of thatassociation is the reassuring comfort of kinship, ownership, and fellowship. But there is also POWERwith which to fight the inevitable discouragementswe so often encounter in this world! We werecreated BY GOD! That is who we are!

FGBG speaks to our fundamental sense of purpose.Though there may be many additional gifts and treasureshidden within all of us waiting for God to bring them forthto be used for His glory, our core purpose is to glorify, andrepresent Him. This is truly why He made us. We werecreated FOR God and FOR His purpose! Herein lies themeaning behind the FGBG - For God By God Brand.

    The FGBG Story

    Press Release

    Our corepurpose is toglorify, and

    representHim.

  • Page 17

And then..with God having stated that all of the apparel shall be black to represent the darkness of this world, andthat all lettering shall be white to represent Him as the light of this world, He also simultaneously admonishes us, thosewho wear this brand, to Be a Light! Because you are representing the LIGHT!I simply cannot explain how excited I was when the Lord rolled out this treasure that kept unfolding and unfolding intomore and more treasure! The apparel line is only the beginning. FGBG is a continuously unfolding Christian Enterprisewith many offerings dedicated to helping to build the Kingdom of God by encouraging and building up the people of God.God even dared say, and I dared to believe, that the concept of FGBG can touch every Christian home across this nation, and even many non-believers that they too, will come to believe. And eventually..it shall become one of His vehiclesthat will help touch the WORLD, for Him.I truly believe, that many will catch this vision. And once they catch it, they will not be able to contain it, but indeedwill help spread the Word and help change the world.Who Are We? We are a people who were created..FOR GOD BY GOD! FGBG. See you in the Light!Rev. Myra McCullough, founder of the FGBG Christian Brand is a licensed and ordained minister with a degree inTheology from Christian Life School of Theology. In addition to ministry she is also an author, founder of FastWednesdays Fellowship (a Fasting Ministry); and is a Christian Life Coach who holds Crisis Counselor and ChristianMaster Counselor certifications.

One of the worst things you can do to achild is tear down their confidence orself-esteem by telling them they willnever amount to anything because of alearning disability. Children retain thatinformation and either they will take itto heart and not excel in life, or, theywill take it to heart but PROVE theywill be something in life. Founder andhost of Wake up America Lisa Pitts wasone of those children who were told shewould not amount to anything in lifebecause of a learning disability. Shedecided to take that negative criticismand turn it into a positive future.

Originally from Jacksonville, NorthCarolina, Lisa was born into a middleclass family where her father served inthe military as one of the first blackofficers on his base. Her siblings werealways the over achievers while shedidnt know what she wanted to do withher life. Growing up with a learning

disability was a challenge for Lisa butas she became older, she learned how tocompensate for it. After graduatingfrom high school, she attended St.Augustine College. From college, shegot married, decided to join the Navy, and ended up being stationed in theHampton Roads area. Once she servedfive years in the military she decided togo back to college to get her nursingdegree. She is a mother of threechildren, two of which are in college, and her youngest is fourteen. I wantedto know more about her journey, howshe become a successful woman, and Iwanted to know her secret to how shekeeps goingand nevergives up.Check out ourone on oneinterviewbelow

SO Magazine: Tell us what you are currently doing?Lisa Pitts: I am the founder, CEO, and host of a televisionshow called Wake Up America. I also own a healthcarecompany which one of the largest in the area, we justrecently bought a store, which my husband runs, and I alsoown a nursing school.

SO Magazine: So, you served in the military, went toschool and got your degree in nursing, and ended upstarting your own healthcare company, and nursing school. How did you end up getting into television?Lisa Pitts: Television was not in the plans! I will tellanybody, God knows the plan, so dont plan anything! Godshowed me the plan, and I followed it. I also produce threeother television shows as well.

SO Magazine: What is Wake Up America about?Lisa Pitts: The purpose of Wake Up America is to turn thenation back to God. He should be first in this nation and Heis not. So we have churches and church leaders as guest,

and we talk about subjects that a lot of people dont like totalk about. We discuss politics and refer it back to biblicalscriptures. We have anywhere from 40,000-50,000 viewerseach week.

SO Magazine: What station and when can we watch yourshow?Lisa Pitts: We started back on January 4, 2015 and airevery Sunday on Fox 43 at 8:30 am. We also stream liveon our website.

SO Magazine: Do you feel having your own televisionshow is your last stop?Lisa Pitts: No, this is definitely not my last stop. I am stillon this journey. I know I am on the right road, but I feel Ihave not reached where I am supposed to be in life.

SO Magazine: Do you have any regrets?Lisa Pitts: Honestly, I dont have any regrets. I feel yourgood or rough times are all learning experiences.

SO Magazine: What are your future plans?Lisa Pitts: I want to continue producing shows, and we arein the process of purchasing a restaurant, and we have planson purchasing a television station this year.

SO Magazine: What is the most important part aboutbeing a business owner, and what advice would you havefor other business striving to become successful?Lisa Pitts: The most important part about being a businessowner is learning how to balance your business and yourfamily. You have to make time for both. Also there is nolimit to the amount of money you can make. I amconstantly meeting new people and building relationshipswith other businesses, because that is where the money is.As hard as it may seem to keep going, dont stop!

SO Magazine: Having a learning disability as a child, notreally knowing what you wanted to do as an adult, you stillmanaged to become a very successful business woman. How do you keep that drive and motivation? What would

you say to others with obstacles, or not knowing what theywant to do with their lives and end up becomingdiscouraged?Lisa Pitts: Life is a hustle and it is real! My best advice isto surrender to God. If you surrender to Him, and followHis plan, then everything else will fall into place. So dontgive up, just keep going! I am still searching for what I amsupposed to do in life. There are still blank pages in mybook, and I am still writing the story!

Brand definer Nikki Curry invited myhusband and I to an event a fewmonths back called the Kellys ChoiceAwards which I covered in my last issue. Ibriefly talked about the experience and thepeople that were there. One of the people Imentioned in my article was motivationalspeaker and author Tawana Williams. Oftentimes people get discouraged when obstaclesare thrown their way, and then start makingexcuses. Eventually, one must realize, excuses will get you nowhere. I learnedthrough experience that for every obstaclethere is a solution. It is also important to havepositive people in your circle. After listeningto Tawana give her motivational speech atKellys Choice Awards, I left that eventspeechless! On that day I said there will be nomore excuses for me.

Back in the 60s some women were given the drug Thalidomide, which had many functions. But women who werepregnant were given the drug to help alleviate nausea and morning sickness. Tawanas mother was given this drug whilepregnant with her. Shortly after this drug was put on the market and sold, it was discovered that the drug was causingbabies to be born with deformities and/or missing limbs. Tawana was one of the babies born without arms and impaireduse of her legs but she didnt let her disability become her crutch, it became her Blessing! She shared how her grandmothertold her If you werent born with it, then God didnt mean for you to have it!

I had the honor and the pleasure of having a one on one conversation with Mrs. Williams. Not only is she a Nationallyknown Motivational Speaker, shes also the Author of five books, an Artist-she draws with her feet and an Advocate forChange. I wanted to know more about her past and how she Beat the Odds. When we first started our conversation shesays, For you to get a better understanding about me, let me first tell you who I am. I am a Messenger of Hope andInspiration to the world. I was blessed to be born without arms and impaired use of my legs. My mother told me therewas nothing I could not do. My grandma Rogers did not play with me! At the age of four and a half, she said Tee(which is my nickname) you must not have needed arms because God didnt give them to you. Nothings missing, if youdont have it, then you didnt need it! Ive overcome some major adversities in my life; I was gang raped during a homeinvasion, raped by stepfather, I was addicted to cocaine and crack for 10 years, Ive experienced abortion, motherhoodand a stroke. So I know that Im here to help others overcome their adversities and challenges in life; thats why I amUNarmed But Dangerous!

SO Magazine: With everything you went through, at whatpoint did you say Ok I am not going to let these obstaclesstop me?Tawana Williams: It was in 1996 when my husband kepttelling me that I could do anything; there was something greatin me. He told me God didnt create you to be born withoutarms for nothing. He made you this way so you could go outand help the world. You have a message, and you need totell it. Tell your testimony so it can help other people. Sohe gave me three hundred dollars, I had a computer, a phone, business cards, got in the mind-set of what I needed to do andthen I made it happen. That was more than 18 years ago and9-1/2 of those years we did it for free, speaking to the massesand traveling around the country; what a Blessing!

SO Magazine: Was it a challenge getting started?Tawana Williams: Yes it was hard and challenging but if itwas easy, everybody would be doing it; wed all be takingthe easy way out. Doors were slammed in my face but I keptgoing. For me, NO doesnt mean NO, it means NEXT! Iemailed fifty to sixty people a day, I called strangers to opendoors for me; I made things happen again and again and again!

SO Magazine: Were you able to get any help or guidanceduring this process?Tawana Williams: Yes, in 2004 I met Les Brown; he is oneof the top Motivational Speakers in the world. He becamemy personal friend and mentor, then the rest was history. I

connected with Mr. Art Doakes whos also a MotivationalSpeaker. He became my personal Life Coach, he taught methe game of speaking on a totally different level.

SO Magazine: Did you ever see yourself being where youare now?Tawana Williams: Yes I did, I realized that I had to speak itbefore it could manifest itself.I dreamed the vision and I knew thats what God wanted forme!

SO Magazine: How was it growing up as a child?Tawana Williams: Growing up as a child it was hard; childrenwere mean, cruel and disrespectful. I was teased andchallenged to do things daily. The next time they saw me, Iwas doing what they said I couldnt do! Today, I speak todifferent organizations such as, schools, churches, prisons, colleges, universities, drug rehabilitation centers, corporations, etc. showing them their potential and teachingthem to shift their minds to do great things. My motto is: Allthings are Possible to them that Believe!

My biggest supporterhas been my husband Toby. When I get discouraged, Toby pushes me to new levels because he knows what Im capableof doing.

SO Magazine: What advice would you give others that make excuses or give up when things dont go as planned?Tawana Williams: I have a good friend Billy Miller who says Excuses dont hide; they just reveal who you reallyare. Thats a powerful statement! I tell people to play the deck that they were dealt and stop excusing their lives away. Its time to focus on your Possibilities and not your Limitations. If you want it go get it, use what youve got! Everythingyou need is already in you. Speak what you Expect-words have Power to Kill or Build! The mind is a powerful tool,if you dont use it, someone else will gladly use it for you! Look at me and what Ive been through; I could have easilygiven up but I didnt. I wasnt born to quit, I was Born to Win! My mind was set and thats why Im UNarmed ButDangerous!

According to the Center for Disease Control about 6percent of married women between the ages of 15to 44 in the United States are unable to get pregnantafter one year of unprotected sex, and about 11 percent ofwomen ages 15-44 in the United States find it difficultgetting pregnant or carrying a pregnancy to term regardlessof their marital status. Endometriosis affects millionsworldwide and 6.3 million women and girls are in theUnited States and Canada.

Before I go further let me give those who might not knowthe definition of infertility and endometriosis. Firstinfertility is defined as the inability to conceive or carry apregnancy to term after twelve months of trying toconceive; however, if you are over the age of 35 the time oftrying to conceive is reduced to six months. Endometriosisis defined as a painful disorder which tissues that normallyline the inside of your uterus grows outside the uterus andother areas including the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bowel orbladder.

The cause of endometriosis is unknown. It is suggested thatduring menstruation some of the menstrual tissues back upthrough the fallopian tubes, implants in the abdomen andgrows. Other theories is endometrial tissue is distributedfrom the uterus to other parts of the body through the lymphsystem or through the blood system, and that remnants oftissue from when the woman has an embryo may later

develop into endometriosis. Another theory is that it maybe carried in the genes in certain families.

The Endometriosis Association research showed a shockinglink between dioxin exposure and the development ofendometriosis. Dioxin is a toxic chemical by product ofpesticide manufacturing bleached pulp and paper products, and medical and municipal waste incineration.

Infertility can also be one of the causes of endometriosis.According to medical statistics an estimate 40 percent ofwomen with endometriosis are affected with infertility.

A few factors that put a woman at greater risk ofendometriosis are never giving birth, one or more relativeswith the disease such as a mother, sister or aunt, medicalconditions that prevent the normal passage of menstrualflow out of the body, a history of pelvic infections.Endometriosis most likely develops a few years aftermenstruation begins.

The leading symptom of endometriosis is pelvic pain that isusually linked with menstrual periods. Other symptomsinclude pain with intercourse, pain with bowel movementsor urination, excessive bleeding during periods, andinfertility.

An additional determinant that could cause infertility forendometriosis sufferers could be the over-production ofprostaglandins. These are hormones that play an importantrole in the fertilization and implantation of the embryo.Having an excess of prostaglandins may interfere with thisprocess. As a result of the disease painful intercourseusually occurs resulting in many couples not havingintercourse during the womans most fertile time thathinders the possibility of conception.

If left untreated this condition has seriously negative impacton ones reproductive health. There are medical and naturaloptions to help heal the body. Many doctors suggest eitherthe laparoscopic or abdominal surgery to remove thelesions, or scar tissue damaged areas. In cases of severeendometriosis many doctors suggest a full hysterectomy, which is the removal of the uterus, cervix, ovaries, andfallopian tubes.

A doctor could prescribe hormonal medications. Thesemedications could alter the menstrual cycle and couldprevent pregnancy. The side effects of these medicationscould be that once they are stopped endometriosis couldcome back and spread further.

Lifestyle changes are some of the most effective ways tohelp with endometriosis. These changes could be changing

your diet, clearing out old tissues and congestion, balancingyour hormones and avoiding certain pollutants.

To begin with, you would want to build a healthyfoundation for your fertility by creating a baby-friendlybody. There are certain foods you may want to avoid.Certain foods could trigger flare-ups and promoteinflammation, or an increase hormonal imbalance.

The following foods have been identified as those that mayworsen the disease: gluten, dairy products, red meat, andsoy.

Gluten especially wheat has a direct link to making painworse and wheat has been genetically modified. Someresearch has shown that 80 percent of woman withendometriosis who takes wheat from their diets reduce theirpain.

Consumption of dairy products should be limited to about 2times a week at most. Choose organic raw dairy productswhen possible. Choose dairy milk alternatives such asalmond or brown rice milk. Be sure that all dairies youconsume are organic or say it does not contain any addedhormones.

A study in 2004 indicates that women who ate beef orother red meat seven times a week or more were 100percent more likely to have endometriosis than thosewho ate red meat less than three times a week.

Soy foods are highly processed and contain concentratedamounts of isoflavones. Most soy is geneticallymodified and not organic, both of which have beenlinked to numerous infertility cases.

Focus on fresh vegetables and fruits. These foodsshould make up most of your diet. A recent studyshowed women who eat green vegetables thirteen timesor more per week, which is roughly twice a day, were 70percent less likely to have endometriosis. Than thosewho ate green vegetables less than six times per week.

Women who ate fresh fruit at least twice a day were 40percent less likely to have endometriosis.

One of the first things a woman with endometriosisshould do is add more fiber to her diet. Fiber helps thebody get rid of excess estrogens. Some good sources of

fiber are: dark leafy greens, broccoli, Swiss chard, quinoa, and chia seeds.

It has been learned that exposure to certainenvironmental toxins may contribute to the developmentof endometriosis or make it worse; some toxins areknown to be endocrine disruptors. Endocrine disruptorsare also known as xenohormones or human madechemicals. The main function of the endocrine system isto serve as our bodys message center.

There appears to be a number of mechanisms by whichendometriosis impacts on fertility and lets not paint agloomy picture because not all women who haveendometriosis are infertile seek medical help for yourparticular problem.
