The Pastor’s Heart “Upon this rock I will build my church…”
Church… just saying the word brings up lots of opinions and perspectives. The church (general) is going through a challenging time right now on many levels. Pastors are trying to figure out how to get folks back in the building and how to share the wonderful message that changes, heals and restores lives. It’s not just with those outside the church but also those who make up the church.
I am one who left the church for 5 years and was truly content. I had done my duty for 25 years as a minister, I had done my time. Then through a series of events, God brought me to LCRL. It was here that I realized that I was not here for the church but , at the time, it was here for me. It has been here that found healing, renewed purpose and I met some of the most amazing people who loved this church and were determined to see it through a difficult time. Their love and passion was (and still is) not just for the “church” but for the hearts and souls that made up the church family. Healing is hard and takes a lot of time and sacrifice. First one has to deal with feel wings within and then we have to discover the healing path. Discovering that path is quiet a journey, there are no rules or sure-fire remedies. There are suggestions and opinions but every heart and situation is unique. What I have witnessed and been personally a part of, in two ministries, is the brokenness, restoration, healing and growth that comes when we re-discover the heart, passion and purpose of the church. What I will share with you this coming year in the

We begin an exciting journey where we remind ourselves that God has already blessed His church, question is, will we give Him something to bless?

Thoughts on the church…
I begin by trying to answer some questions…
Why the church?
Do we really need it?
What is it’s purpose?
Why the church?
Where did the idea of “church” begin?
Exodus 25:8, “Build me a sanctuary that I may dwell with my people.” We begin with the heart and desires of God. He called Moses to build a sanctuary, a place set aside for a specific purpose, that God might dwell and meet with his people. The word church actually means “called out ones”. There are two chapters given to creation but twelve chapters to the instructions to the tabernacle.
Matthew 16:18, “Upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it”. God has given us a place that we have set apart to meet with him, and others. We draw strength and hope from the faith we share and sup-port , fellowship and comfort by sharing the journey with our like kind and those seeking.
