The Messenger firsT bapTisT hunTsville this sunday knowing, loving, serving Christ...together Volume 64 / Week Number 10 / March 7, 2013 FIRST THOUGHTS David Hull, Pastor Holy Week is two weeks away. These special days between Palm Sunday and Easter offer us rich opportunities for worship. Let me tell you what we have planned for that week, and encourage you to make your plans to attend the services and enter fully into the experience of the days that we call “Holy.” Wednesday night, March 27 – We will not have our regular Fellowship Supper and Prayer Meeting on this night because of the meal that will be served the next night. In addition, Holy Week this year is Spring Break for our schools, so there will not be any activities for preschool, children, and youth on that night. Sanctuary Choir and Orchestra will practice on this night. Maundy Thursday, March 28 – This year we are planning to have a Seder Meal for our Maundy Thursday Lord’s Supper observance. We will experience the Passover as a Jewish family does. This was the very thing that Jesus was doing with his followers on the night that he took the bread and the cup and gave them new meaning. Sometimes it is good for us as Christians to pass through Passover so that we can fully understand the meaning of the “new covenant” that Jesus offered on that night. The cost for this Seder Meal is the same as Wednesday night suppers, but we are taking reservations so that we will know how to prepare. Please make your reservation at the church building on a Wednesday night or Sunday morning in the days to come. The Seder Meal begins at 5:30. It will be in the Fellowship Hall or the Life Center, depending on the number of reservations. Good Friday Tenebrae Service, March 29 – Tenebrae is a Service of Shadows. We let the beauty of music and the words of Scripture lead us into the darkness of suffering that our Lord endured for us. The Sanctuary Choir and Orchestra (with special guest Mike Lyon, the piper from SlipJig) will take us to the cross through selections from Canticle of the Cross. Bring your heart in a spirit of reflection, meditation, repentance and gratitude as we gather in the Sanctuary at 7:00 p.m. for this moving worship opportunity. Then leave in silence on that night – to return on Easter Sunday to the glad Hallelujahs of the glorious resurrection! We call it Holy Week. Will you make these days holy for you? in recent days, the generosity of some donors has allowed the church to acquire two pianos which were recently delivered. A new steinway grand was placed in the Sanctuary on the floor level and a new Boston Grand was placed in the Gathering Place. Our Student Choir was the first group to be accompanied by the Steinway grand. Memorial gifts were given to cover the entire cost of these beautiful instruments. We find ourselves extremely thankful for the generosity of these donors. To God be the glory!
