Breakfast: Please come and join the Parish for Breakfast on Sunday after Mass. Join us for coffee and conversation and breakfast treats. See you there.

Help fight hunger by participating in the 40 Cans for Lent drive sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. While we appreciate that you donate nonperishable foods on a regular basis, what better way to celebrate the Year of Mercy than to give the equivalent of a can of food for each of the 40 days of Lent. All donated items are taken to the Wallace food pantry for distribution as needed. The Knights of Columbus Annual State Raffle for a 7 night trip to Alaska or a 7 night Caribbean Cruise plus 5 cash prizes, will be held in May. Tickets for a chance to win can be obtained from any Knight. They cost $5 each. You cannot win if you do not purchase a ticket. This is an important part of our local fundraising as 50% of sales are retained in our local Council. 2016 WALLACE COMMUNITY LENTEN WORSHIP & LUNCH We are invited to the Ecumenical Lenten Prayer Services and lunches on Thursdays of Lent at 12:00 noon at the United Methodist Church in Wallace. Join other Christians to pray, worship, and share a meal. The lunches will continue until Thursday, March 17. Let's get together for this prayerful experience in the spirit of Lent and Christian Unity. Thu Mar 10. Speaker: Rev Philip Siebbeles. Thu Mar 17. Speaker: Judith Kunst Lenten schedule (see schedule of Transfiguration of Jesus website): Stations of the Cross- every Lenten Friday followed by a light Lenten Supper. It begins at 630pm. Thank you to all those parishioners who have helped with unloading and delivering food to families in need through the St. Joseph food pantry. In the first two months of this year, over 11,000 lbs. of food each month have been delivered to over 300 families. St Joseph’s Pantry needs volunteers on a regular basis. If interested in assisting, please see Huck Booz.

The Reconciliation Service will be held at 7:00 PM that same evening. Our CD for March will be Beyond Belief by Fr. Michael Schmitz. Fr. Schmitz challenges us not to settle for believing, but to allow Christ to profoundly change how we live. A pot luck supper will follow.

From the desk of the Historian: The memory album for Father Meares and the picture album for his time with Transfiguration have been missing from the history bookshelf for some weeks. Assuming you are finished with them would the person who borrowed them kindly return them to the bookshelf? Thank you for letting others enjoy those memories.

Did you Know??? The Stations of the Cross, also known as The Way of the Cross, originated through

imitation of the practice developed during the very late Middle Ages, perhaps during the 13th and 14th centuries, of visiting the scenes of Christ's Passion and Death in Jerusalem. The term Stations of the Cross was derived from the method of performing this devotion, namely standing or gathering for prayer or meditation at different places associated with Christ's journey to Golgotha to be crucified.

Once, the Stations of the Cross included a total of 43 stations. The 14 stations as we know them today became fairly stabilized by Pope Clement the 12th in the year 1731. These stations, which continue to guide our devotions to this day, begin with Jesus being condemned to death, and then follow Jesus as he accepts and carries his cross, meets His Mother, gets help carrying his cross, has his face wiped, falls, consoles the women of Jerusalem, is stripped, nailed to the cross, and dies. Recently, a 15th station or meditation is often included -- this to emphasis the triumph of the cross, the triumph of Christ's Resurrection.

Parish Lenten Mission with Fr. Ricky Manalo A Catholic composer and theologian, Fr. Manalo will guide us in a discovery of the meaning of the Eucharist within the context of the Year of Mercy, as we prepare as a community to celebrate the liturgies of Holy Week. Monday & Tuesday, March 14th and 15th, 7:00-9:00PM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Burlingoton, NC. Contact Jeff Rice at [email protected] or 919-368-3047. - See more at: http://dioceseofraleigh.org/offices/communications/centralized-mail#sthash.GxOT5OwY.dpu Saint Maximilian Kolbe relic tour of Diocese, Feb. 27 - March 13- Father Maximilian Kolbe, O.F.M. Conv. From February 27 until March 13, 2016, a pilgrimage will take place in our Diocese of the relics of Saint Maximilian Kolbe, O.F.M. Conv., commemorating the 75th anniversary of his martyrdom. This pilgrimage is being sponsored by the Franciscan Friars Conventual of the Our Lady of the Angels Province, who generously serve in priestly ministry throughout the Diocese of Raleigh. The pilgrimage will take place in the following locations: • UNC at Chapel Hill – March 7-9 • Siler City (St. Julia) – March 11-13 Among his many patronages, Saint Maximilian Kolbe, O.F.M. Conv., is known to be an intercessor for those struggling with chemical addictions. He is such due to the manner by which he was martyred. On August 14, 1941, after ten days of torture, Saint Maximilian was killed by lethal injection. Prior to his execution along with nine others, Saint Maximilian was known to have given heroic comfort and courage to the prisoners suffering with him. It is with the same gift of faith exemplified by Saint Maximilian Kolbe that Bishop Burbidge invites your special prayers for those for whom chemical addiction is a daily cross. Addiction is sadly an ever growing frequency among those whom the Church serves, whether addiction to drugs like heroin or painkillers, or even other chemical substances, like alcohol. However it may manifest itself, chemical dependency creates patterns which imprison those struggling with its effects. Proven programs are often needed to build wellness, but also needed is the power which flows from a relationship with God. Especially during this period of pilgrimage in our Diocese, please pray for and support those struggling with chemical addictions and the other associated issues which so often stem from it. Please also pray for their family members, friends and all those who seek to assist them. Listed below is a sample intention, which you may wish to consider in your prayers.

The Corporal Works of Mercy are found in the teachings of Jesus and give us a model for how we should treat all others, as if they were Christ in disguise. They "are charitable actions by which we help our neighbors in their bodily needs" (USCCA). They respond to the basic needs of humanity as we journey together through this life. The last three of the seven Corporal Works of Mercy are listed below. After each work of mercy there are also suggestions and words of advice for living them out in our daily lives. Have your own suggestions? Let us know @USCCB and use the hashtag #mercyinmotion. Visit the Prisoners- People in prison are still people, made in the image and likeness of God. No matter what someone has done, they deserve the opportunity to hear the Word of God and find the Truth of the message of Christ.

1 See if your parish, or a nearby parish, has a prison ministry and if so, get involved.

2 Volunteer to help out or donate to charities that give Christmas presents to children whose parents are in prison. Bury the Dead- Funerals give us the opportunity to grieve and show others support during difficult times. Through our prayers and actions during these times we show our respect for life, which is always a gift from God, and comfort to those who mourn.

1 Send a card to someone who has recently lost a loved one. Make your own card and use some of these prayers.

2 Visit the cemetery and pray for those you have lost.

3 Spend time planning your own funeral mass, read through the Order of Christian Funerals and find our hope in the Resurrection. Give Alms to the Poor- Donate money to organizations that have the ability to provide support and services for those in need. Do research and find organizations that put people in need first, rather than profit.

1 Skip the morning latte and put that money in the collection basket at church.

2 Find a charity that is meaningful to you and volunteer your time or donate.

3 This Lent, give up eating out at restaurants. Pack you meals and donate the extra money to charities.

4 Participate in Operation Rice Bowl. . .
