PASTOR’S MESSAGE and STEWARDSHIP

March 4, 2018 Queen of Heaven | 5

Dear family,

Continuing that little article from Mark Searle last week, he says:

“The readings for the second half of Lent are taken from the Gospel of John, beginning on the Monday of the fourth week of Lent at 4:43 and going through, omitting passages read on Sundays and during Easter, to chapter 13. It is clear that these readings from John do not constitute a kind of ‘crash course’ in the life of Jesus, so much as a presentation of the mystery of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, of whom John says that all who believe in him will have eternal life. Christ is presented as the healer and life-giver, as the one who gives life through his confrontation with death and gathers into one the scattered children of God.”

Last week we considered that the first half of Lent, which we are still in, calls us to ever deeper conversion. Yes, you might say, “I’m already a believer!” Yes, but you can still grow in holiness, and those areas in which you still fall into sin are areas of conversion. Not only that, but we can grow in our love for God and for neighbor in those areas of our life where we may not necessarily be sinning.

This reflection above from Mark Searle reminds us that in the second half of Lent, we are proposed reading more closely associated with the person of Jesus Christ, the One who is calling us all to deeper conversion. It isn’t just any ordinary person or teacher, but the Lord God Almighty, who became man, and who instructs us in the ways of God. Is He trustworthy? Should we listen to Him? Should we obey Him? If you don’t think that He is God then you don’t nec-essarily have to believe all that He says. But if He truly is God, as we believe, then we have to listen and obey all that commands and asks of us.

The second half of Lent reminds us more starkly and di-rectly, Jesus is God…make no mistake on that. And so let us order our lives ever more on that truth, and build our-selves, our families, our parish up on that foundation! You all are doing very wonderful with your stewardship by way of tithing, including your ACA support of your parish by supporting the archdiocese. If you have not yet partici-pated in the ACA campaign, please keep in mind that is one of the ways we tithe and give back to God. Working to-gether in this way, our parish will continue to grow and im-prove in many ways, making many more things possible.

I hope and pray that you have a blessed week,

Fr. Sáenz

Querida familia,
