Welcome

But as for me, it is good to be near God. — Psalm 73:28

We have no greater privilege than to draw near to God. We come to him through the merit of Christ crucified. We come by the power of the Holy Spirit. And we come with God’s promise that he will draw near to us (James 4:8).

If your faith has not yet come to rest in Christ, and if God is awakening in your heart a desire to take the next step, please use one of the prayer cards in the pew rack to contact the pastor or speak to him as you leave the sanctuary. A husband and wife team will also be standing next to the pastor following the service to speak with anyone interested in exploring what it means to know Jesus Christ or to join this church.

May our gracious Lord draw near to you wonderfully in this service today.

The Choral Prelude - Show Me Your Cross ............................................................. LantzHyangbin Choi, piano

(The congregation is invited to read Mark 14:32-42 page 1580 in the pew Bible) O show me your cross, dear Savior, allow my eyes to seethe price you paid at Calvary that I might be set free.O show me your cross, dear Savior, your nail-pierced hands and feet. Then let me feel the healing stream where love and sorrow meet.

O sacred head now wounded, with grief and shame weighed down, now scornfully surrounded with thorns your only crown.O sacred head, what glory, what mystery divine, that in your dying sorrow I long to call you mine.

What you, my Lord, have suffered was all for sinner’s gain;for mine was the transgression, but yours the deadly pain. Here at the cross, dear Savior, though I deserve your place, look on me with your favor, and grant to me your grace.

† The Call to Worship .........................................................................................Psalm 16

You are our Lord; apart from you we have no good thing.

you alone are our portion and our cup; you make our lot secure.

Our eyes are always on the LORD. With him on our side, we will not be shaken.

You make known to us the path of life;

you will fill us with joy in your presence,

with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

The Lord be with you.

And with your spirit.

Let us worship God.

Q. What does the Bible teach us concerning the reality of spiritual warfare and our victory in Christ Jesus?

A. The Bible teaches that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Our enemy, the devil, walks about like a roaring lion seeking to devour us. Satan is the Prince of Darkness, the enemy of our souls, the tempter, the accuser, and the Father of Lies. We believe that Christ himself took on flesh and blood in order that by means of death he might do away with him who holds the power of death, that is the devil. We believe that greater is he that is in us, than he that is in the world. We believe that God has fitted us with the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Following Christ’s example, we pray to be delivered from evil, knowing that Jesus prays for our deliverance. And we believe that when Christ returns, the serpent of old, who deceives the whole world, will be thrown down to the earth, and his angels will be thrown down with him. We know that Christ has kept Satan and his angels in everlasting bonds under the darkness of hell for judgment on the great day. And we are convinced that nothing, not even demons nor any powers will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Personal Confession of Sin

The Corporate Confession of Sin (Please kneel)

Gracious Lord, you have shown us great mercy and compassion. You desire for us to love you with all of our hearts, minds and strength, yet we continue to love ourselves more than you. You have provided for our needs in great ways, yet we have not been content with your blessings, instead we are often jealous of what you have given to others. Forgive us for our failures to care for those who are suffering, for treating the gifts of heaven as if they were unimportant, and for our neglect of your gracious law. Help us to hate our sins enough to turn from them. Through Christ, our Lord we pray, Amen.

The Assurance of Pardoning Grace ........................................................Ephesians 1:7, 8

In Jesus Christ we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in ac-cordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.

† The Pastoral Prayer and The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.Thy kingdom come.Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread,And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

The Choral Offertory - Jesus, the Very Thought of You ........................................ HelveyKatie Gothel, flute

Jesus, the very thought of you with sweetness fills the breast;but sweeter far your face to see and in your presence rest.

No voice can sing, no heart can frame, nor can the memory finda sweeter sound than Jesus’ name, the Savior of mankind.

O hope of every contrite heart, O joy of all the meek,to those who fall how kind you are, how good to those who seek.

But what to those who find? Ah, this: nor tongue nor pen can show;the love of Jesus, what it is, none but who love him know.

Jesus, our only joy is you, as you our prize will be.In you is all our glory now and through eternity.

The Shorter Catechism in Modern English, Question 91: Q: How do the sacraments become effective means of salvation?

A: The sacraments become effective for salvation, not because of any special power in them or in the people who administer them, but rather by the blessing of Christ and the working

of his Spirit in those who receive them by faith.

Offertory - Precious Lord, Take My Hand / Just a Closer Walk with TheeAmy Patton and Chad Hubbard

Precious Lord, take my hand. Lead me on, help me stand.I am tired, I am weak, I am worn.Through the storm, through the night lead me on to the light.Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home.

When my way grows drear’, precious Lord, linger near. When my life is almost goneHear my cry, hear my call.Hold my hand, lest I fall.Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home.Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home.

Just a closer walk with thee;grant it, Jesus, is my plea.Daily walking close to thee,Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

I am weak, but thou art strong.Jesus, keep me from all wrong.I’ll be satisfied as longas I walk, let me walk close to thee.

When my feeble life is o’er,time for me will be no more.Guide me gently, safely o’erto thy kingdom shore, to thy shore.
