Understanding Police Check Requirements within Parishes.

Volunteers engaging with Vulnerable Adults as part of their ministry are required by legislaon to hold

a current Police Cerficate.

There are lots of quesons around Police Check requirements, so we have tried to address a number of

these here. If you have any addional quesons about Police Checks as a volunteer, please contact the

Archdiocesan Safeguarding Officer, Troy Tornabene- [email protected] or 3324 3752.

Due to the complexity, all new volunteer engagement is to be managed through the Parish Office and

not through individual ministries. All forms are to be collected from the Parish Office.

Police Checks – Protecon of Vulnerable Adults

• Checks volunteer’s suitability to work with vulnerable adults.

• Under The Age Care Act (Police Cerficate Guidelines 2014) volunteers engaged in Nursing Homes/Aged care facilies

visits are required to hold a current Police Cerficate.

• The Archdiocesan Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults Policy apply the same requirements to those volunteers

vising vulnerable adults in their homes. This includes extraordinary ministers of Communion to the Sick, Care and Con-

cern (if vising homes), etc.

• If you have been in your ministry for years and asked to complete a Police Check - Please don’t take a request as a

personal a%ack on your integrity – these changes apply as our compliance with various legislaon and the Archdiocese

risk controls for the protecon of vulnerable adults.

• Volunteers are to ONLY use Police Check forms provided by the Archdiocese.

PROJECT COMPASSION 2017 “LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR”

~ Fourth Sunday Lent.

In Vietnam, young Nguyet was isolated as a result of her severe disabilities, until a Caritas-Australia supported program offered her education, creative outlets and community interaction.

Please donate to Project Compassion 2017 and give children living with disabilities in Vietnam the oppor-tunity for education and inclusion in their community.

You can donate through Parish boxes and envelopes, via www.caritas.org.au/projectcompassion or 1800 024 413.

Vacancy: Treasurer for St Vincent de Paul Rosalie Region-al Council (RRC). The RRC is the Council that co-ordinates the activities of 7 SVDP Conferences in Parishes of Jubilee, Toowong, The Gap & Dorrington. The Treasurer role is not onerous requiring about 4 hours per month plus attendance at a meeting once every two months. The role requires skills to keep the accounting books, which are held on a central accounting application and also skills to use an Excel work-sheet. Please contact Mike Gilmour 0416 185 153.

“Share the Dignity”. The Archdiocese again this year will be assisting with their two collection campaigns (in April and August). “Share the Dignity” provides nationally to homeless & at risk women, sanitary products to allow them a sense of dignity at a time when they need it most. No woman should suffer the indignity of choosing between eating and buying sanitary items. Once again we are asking parishes to participate by placing a collection box in their church / parish office during the month of April for parishioners donations.

8.30am Mass ~ Holy Spirit Church

Recessional Hymn: Lord, I Lift Your Name on High.

Lord, I Lift Your Name on High,

Lord I Love to sing your praises

I'm so glad You're in my life,

I'm so glad you came to save us.

CHORUS:

You came from heaven to earth - to show the way

from the earth to the cross - my debt to pay

from the cross to the grave - from the grave - to the sky

Lord I lift Your name on high. (Repeat)

FR JOHN GERARD REILLY SJ (continued from front page)

Many parishioners have commented on the very noticeable decline in the health & mental alertness of John Reilly especially in recent months. During his visit in mid-Feb. Fr Brian McCoy sj, Jesuit Provincial, told John that he would have to leave Brisbane by the end of 2017. It was arranged that I be given enduring power of attorney in respect to John’s future needs. John loved Brisbane and his work and the people of the Faber Community.

As it turned out John was spared having to leave Brisbane, and the dependence on others that comes with declining physical and mental powers.

In the early hours of Wed. 15 March John died peacefully in his sleep. There is sadness in his going away from us, but over-whelming feeling is one of gratitude. We are grateful to John for what he has given to many seeking his guidance and what he has given to the parish. And we are filled with thanks to our God that John was taken so gently and peacefully into eternal life.

ST. IGNATIUS PEACE THROUGH JUSTICE GROUP 1. Our parcels for the camp school in Obbo, South Sudan are finally on their way! Many heartfelt thanks to all parishioners who contributed with lovely goods, the packing / paper work or financially. We’ve sent 10 boxes! Sr. Rose recovered much better when she heard what was coming her way. Getting this donation on the way was a great effort and a wonderful show of support by our parish for the marginalised people in Southern Sudan where our goods will surely make a substantial contribution to the wonderful work of 'Education for Peace' by the Sacred Heart Sisters. 2. OUR MISSION PRAYER

We, the St Ignatius community, are called to live the good news. We pray that we become the people that Jesus Christ called us to be. We pray that we know the Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit

through knowing Jesus in prayer, scripture and liturgy. We pray that we give hope to others by a practical, personal kindness, affirming each person's dignity, worth and destiny in Christ. May we live out this mission of our Christian vocation in the spirit of St. Ignatius.
