The Cowboy Poetry Gathering and the sweet aroma of our home-cooked Stuffed Peppers also brought in both our Attorney General Aaron Ford and Second Assistant Attorney General (CJ) Christine Jones Brady. They sat down with our volunteers, staff, and a couple of our groups that morning, as we all shared the importance of the Center. The “Happy Hookers” (knitting group) shared their latest crafts as they are trying to get a head start on some fun items for our Christmas Bazaar, the biggest fundraiser the center puts on, happening the 1st weekend of December! MISSION STATEMENT:

To provide nutritious meals, socialization, health screening, and education. We act as

a catalyst for access, opportunity, health and independence for older adults.

Hours of Operation: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

This year’s Cowboy Poetry Gathering brought in some fun and interesting guests, not only to our town, but to the Senior Center. Live entertainment while dining was a great way to kick off this year!

It started off with the New Hampshire-based cartoonist, folk musician, Marek Bennet. He entertained us with his very unique, handmade banjo and a mixture of civil war songs along with the history of how the banjo came to be.

The performance was followed by Ernie Sites and The Sagebrush Ramblers. They put on one heck of a show. Fiddlin’ Pete wowed us with his musical talents, as always! They sat down and shared a nice hot bowl of corn chowder with us, after the show. We got to meet their wives who had some fun stories about the boys before heading out to play at the Stockmen’s for the weekend.

The “Happy Hookers” (knitting group) shared their latest crafts

as they are trying to get a head start on some fun items for our

Christmas Bazaar, the biggest fundraiser the center puts on,

happening the 1st weekend of December!

All in all, good times had by all!

George Gary has been a part of the Terrace at Ruby View for 3

years. George is one of our main instructors for Tai Chi classes.

George and his wife Donna have been married for 42 years and have

two boys. One who lives is Minnesota and another who lives in

Washington State. George attended Center Twp. High School in

Pennsylvania and graduated in 1970. Growing up, George always

found himself attracted to machinery. In high school he worked in a

lawn mower shop. As time passed the machines grew, until he

ended up working in the mining industry. When George and his wife

Donna moved to the Elko area, they both decided to take a Tai Chi

class through GBC, which was held right here at the Senior Center,

and is how they learned about the center. George has been

studying Martial Arts for over 25 years and loves sharing his

knowledge with others.
