FIRST VICE PRESIDENT

Janice Petrosino

Dean of Chairman

February was a most informative month from

District to Club. I attended the February District

meeting and Craft Contest. What a great display of

crafts from Torrance Woman’s Club.

The next Marina District meeting will be March 15,

at the Santa Monica Bay Woman’s Club. The

meeting time has been changed to 10 a.m. The

speaker will be Katherine George Chu, CFWC

Legislation and Public Policy Chairman. The Arts

and Photography Contest will also be held. All

entries are due by March 1, 2019. Please see Lou

Schumacher/ Arts and Cindy Heistand

/Photography Chairman with your entries.

The Bus trip to the San Antonio Winery and

Heritage Park was a great success and a big thank

you to all who attended.

Ivette Barcena, from CAST, Coalition to Abolish

Slavery and Huan Trafficking gave us a lot of good

information and told us about some well needed

items for the victims they help. I will pass on the

information to you as soon as I receive it.

Alycia McCord our Marina District First Vice

President spoke to us about the Honor Flight. Here

is some information about it. The Honor Flight is to

transport America's Veterans to Washington, DC to

visit those memorials dedicated to honor the service

and sacrifices of themselves and their friends.

Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization

created solely to honor America's veterans for all

their sacrifices.

The Veterans will be arriving home on April 28,

2019 at LAX International Airport. Alycia

McCord is asking for volunteers from the clubs in

our district to go to the Airport to welcome the

Veterans home that day. Alycia will be heading this

up for our district. When I receive more information

on this event, I will pass it on to you. I have marked

my calendar for this day. I want to be there to

welcome them home.

The Woman’s club of Redondo Beach will be

holding a Baby Shower on March 9th from noon

to 2:00 p.m.at their clubhouse co-hosted by the

Woman’s Club of Playa del Rey. Please bring an

unwrapped baby gift. These items will be going to

DCFS teens that expecting a baby. If you do not

shop or cannot attend, you can give your money or

gift to someone who will be attending the Baby

Shower. I will be going and would love to take your

gifts there.

Ladies mark your Calendars for April 13, this is

the day of the Marina District Convention where

each club receives their awards for a year of great

work. Deanna Hanson is the Chairman of this

important day. She has a wonderful day planned for

us. There will be vendors and entertainment. We

always have a large group attending so please plan

on joining us again this year. It will be held the

DoubleTree Hotel in Torrance. Our CFWC

TWC ANNUAL

RUMMAGE SALE

Saturday, February 2,

2019 was a rainy day!

We were afraid that

would keep people away. Apparently we were the

only indoor rummage sale that day and that made us

a hit! The rummage sale volunteers have become a

“well oiled machine”

and everything ran

smoothly. Thank

you to all who

worked, donated or

shopped.

CLUBWOMAN & STUDENT

PHOTOGRAPHY CONTESTS

Photography Contest Chair - Cindy Heistand

Clubwoman: The March deadline for these

contests is quickly approaching. Don’t miss the

chance to share those special photos of yours while

also helping TWC shine! Again, for the 2018-2020

contest years, there are five opportunities for

clubwomen to participate by entering a photo in one

or more of these categories:

• Living Things - adults, animals,

children, domestic birds, fish, flowers,

insects, reptiles, wildlife

• Scenes - city, landscapes, rural, skies,

sunrise, sunset, waterscapes, weather

• Still Life - abstract (any assemblage of

objects either in an arranged or natural

setting), buildings, monuments)

• GFWC VOLUNTEERS IN ACTION:

These pictures capture fellow club members in

action as they engage in volunteer activities.

• A YEAR IN PICTURES: Also known as the

GFWC Calendar Contest—features photographs

depicting the twelve months of the year, providing

members the opportunity to showcase their talents

while supporting GFWC through the fundraising

calendar.

Student: Do you know a young person who is

interested in photography? Encourage them to join

in our contests! Student age group contests are:

Grades 6-8; Grades 9-12; and Graduating Seniors.

One entry per student per may be submitted in one

or more of these categories: Living Things, Scenes,

or Still Life.

I’ll need to receive entries to the Photography

Contests by our March Meeting - March 6th.
