BLESSING WORDS

In the security of our air-conditioned cars, we close the windows tight and rely on filtered air to cool us. But this is stale air; we need to open the windows and let fresh air come in. Similarly, we need to open the windows of our hearts and minds and let the wind of the Holy Spirit refresh us. Lent is an ideal opportunity to do just that and I hope you will join me in being refreshed in the lives we live day by day!

Benefice Profile – Update The complete Profile for Candidates for the post of Priest in Charge for the Benefice would consist of three elements:-

1. A Deanery profile for which the Deanery would be responsible 2. A Benefice profile which is currently being created at regular meetings of the four churches. The three strongest most positive aspects of benefice life are Worshiping together, e.g. joining together for Christian celebrations; Mission – an annual outreach programme has been held over the past 3 years; Christian education and fellowship including a weekly bible study (Mondays), weekly prayer meeting (Monday morning) and weekly Morning Prayer or Communion Service (Wednesdays) 3. Separate Profiles for each parish which each PCC would produce and be responsible for.

The Benefice is aware that other aspects of benefice life require developing, including a Christian presence in the community and the proposed candidate being more involved in local events. More consideration yet to be put into this aspect of the profile.

I would I had some flowers o' the spring that might Become your time of day... daffodils,

That come before the swallow dares, and take The winds of March with beauty; violets dim,

But sweeter than the lids of Juno's eyes... O, these I lack,

To make you garlands of, and my sweet friend, To strew him o'er and o'er!

Despite March's windy reputation, winter isn't really blown away; it is washed away. It flows down all the hills, goes swirling down the valleys and spills out to sea. Like so many of this earth's elements,

winter itself is soluble in water.... It is a wet world, winter's harsh grip beginning to relax.... An outcropping ledge on the hillside

sheds its beard of icicles and becomes a seep spring that drips into a shallow pool that feeds a growing runlet.

This Month’s ArticleThis Month’s ArticleThis Month’s ArticleThis Month’s Article

March is the third month of the year in both the Julian and Gregorian calendars. It is the second of seven months to have a length of 31 days. In the Northern Hemisphere, the meteorological beginning of spring occurs on the first day of March. The March equinox on the 20th or 21st marks the astronomical beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.

The name of March comes from Martius, the first month of the

earliest Roman calendar. It was named after Mars, the Roman god

of war, who was also regarded as a guardian of agriculture and an

ancestor of the Roman people through his sons Romulus and

Remus. His month Martius was the beginning of the season for

both farming and warfare. Martius remained the first month of the

Roman calendar year perhaps as late as 153 BC. Even in late

antiquity, Roman mosaics picturing the months sometimes still

placed March first.

Great Britain and its colonies continued to use March 25 as the

New Year until 1752, when they finally adopted the Gregorian

calendar (the fiscal year in the UK continues to begin on the 6th

April, initially identical to 25 March in the former Julian calendar).

The zodiac signs for the month of March are Pisces (until March 20) and Aries (March 21 onwards). Its birth flower is the daffodil. It’s birthstones are aquamarine and bloodstone. These stones symbolize courage.
