Many companies are choosing robotic process automation (RPA) or robotics desktop automation (RDA). Robots, which at one time were thought to only be useful on a conveyor belt in manufacturing companies are now making their way to corporate offices. Both RPA and RDA use automation software for everyday tasks such as processing sales and financial transitions, managing data, communicating between different systems, access management, monitoring and reporting. While RPA focuses on back-office tasks that are typically repetitive in nature and require little human intervention, RDA is used to leverage specific tasks. Typical RPA tasks can include credit decisions, loan underwriting, pricing, accounting data entry and purchase order creation. RDA tasks are more specialized and can include utilizing a single-sign on to eliminate multiple points of password entry, providing a consolidated view of the financials, and performing validations of internal regulations to ensure completeness of inputs and processes. The purpose of RDA is to reduce the number of mundane tasks of an employee so that they may focus on more complex activities. A few key benefits to robotic automation include: Robots operate 24/7 – no holidays, vacation or sick days required! Robotic automation results in zero human error and training. Simple tasks are completed with minimal expenses for salaries and other employee costs. Problems driven by spikes in volume/demand and backlogs are eliminated The cost of licensing a robot is low compared to the total compensation for a full time equivalent employee. Overall, preserving a company’s fitness in the market and maintaining a competitive advantage require innovation, but also depend on efficiency. Robotic automation is an increasingly significant strategy for achieving these goals. RPA and RDA spur this growth by enabling companies to employ automation for routine tasks, which in turn frees up talent to add value by taking on more qualitative and strategic-level initiatives. Robotics in the Corporate World—The

Way of the Future Across nearly all industries, organizations are focusing more time and

resources to digitalizing their business operations, including increasingly

automating routine business processes. Many companies are choosing robotic

process automation (RPA) or robotics desktop automation (RDA). Robots,

which at one time were thought to only be useful on a conveyor belt in

manufacturing companies are now making their way to corporate offices.

Both RPA and RDA use automation software for everyday tasks such as

processing sales and financial transitions, managing data, communicating

between different systems, access management, monitoring and reporting.

While RPA focuses on back-office tasks that are typically repetitive in nature

and require little human intervention, RDA is used to leverage specific tasks.

Typical RPA tasks can include credit decisions, loan underwriting, pricing,

accounting data entry and purchase order creation. RDA tasks are more

specialized and can include utilizing a single-sign on to eliminate multiple

points of password entry, providing a consolidated view of the financials, and

performing validations of internal regulations to ensure completeness of

inputs and processes. The purpose of RDA is to reduce the number of

mundane tasks of an employee so that they may focus on more complex

activities.

A few key benefits to robotic automation include:

Robots operate 24/7 – no holidays, vacation or sick days required!

Robotic automation results in zero human error and training.

Simple tasks are completed with minimal expenses for salaries and other

employee costs.

Problems driven by spikes in volume/demand and backlogs are eliminated

The cost of licensing a robot is low compared to the total compensation

for a full time equivalent employee.

Overall, preserving a company’s fitness in the market and maintaining a

competitive advantage require innovation, but also depend on efficiency.

Robotic automation is an increasingly significant strategy for achieving these

goals. RPA and RDA spur this growth by enabling companies to employ

automation for routine tasks, which in turn frees up talent to add value by

taking on more qualitative and strategic-level initiatives.

WHAT: In early 2017, the IIA conducted a global job analysis study to collect input regarding the proposed CIA exam

syllabi revisions and the knowledge, skills, and abilities most relevant to today’s internal audit professionals. With your

support, the study was made available in 11 languages and garnered more than 3,000 responses. Survey results confirmed

the need to update the current three-part CIA exam and drove the content, design, and structure of the next version of the

exam.

WHEN: The IIA Certification Team is currently developing the updated CIA exams based on the revised syllabi, with an

expected release in January 2019 in English only. The revised CIA exams in non-English languages are expected to be

released beginning April 2019, and completed no later than March 2020. CIA candidates will be able to sit for the current

exams until the revised exams are available in respective languages.

Volunteers play a key role, and the contributions they make

impact the day-to-day functions of internal auditors

and shape the future of the internal audit profession.
