The Arts are Alive and Continue to Thrive!
The Arts are truly alive and continuing to thrive in the Los Angeles Unified School District! Bolstered by unwavering support from Superintendent King, the School Board, and the broader community, the arts are receiving their highest level of financial investment and broadest expansion since 2007. L.A. Unified’s Arts Education Branch (AEB) is proud to partner with local and national arts organizations, entertainment, and philanthropy to ignite the growth of a robust arts culture and curriculum for its nearly 650,000 K-12 students.
This spring, the AEB will engage thousands of community members through its district wide Arts Festivals that showcase students in visual arts, music, dance, film, and theatre. The AEB will also produce the 3rd Annual LAUSD Film Festival at the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. Follow all AEB initiatives on our website http://achieve.lausd.net/arts and social media at https://www.facebook.com/lausdarts.
As March ushers in the celebratory Youth Arts Month, the Arts Education Branch is also pleased to announce Season 2 of its original TV program Spotlight Arts!, a KLCS series that promotes the importance and value of arts education. Featured in this riveting episode are individuals and organizations who transform LAUSD students’ lives through passionate arts advocacy.
This creative media partnership between the Arts Education Branch and KLCS will broaden the awareness and visibility of the successful work occurring in L.A. Unified Schools. Yet, this is just the beginning of expanded arts programming! More work is in development that will make KLCS the “must-watch” station for creative, entertaining, and educational arts programming, for its audience of 16 million households in Southern California.
We invite you to be a part of an arts experience that will transform education! Positive change for tomorrow begins today! Your viewership and continued contributions are greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Rory Pullens
LAUSD Executive Director of Arts Education
NOVATHE ORIGAMI REVOLUTION
The centuries-old tradition of folding two-dimensional paper into three-dimensional shapes is inspiring a scientific revolution. The rules of folding are at the heart of many natural phenomena, from how leaves blossom to how beetles fly. But now, engineers and designers are applying its principles to reshape the world around us… and even within us, designing new drugs, micro-robots, and future space missions! With this burgeoning field of origami-inspired-design, the questions is: can the mathematics of origami be boiled down to one elegant algorithm – a fail-proof guidebook to make any object out of a flat surface, just by folding? And if so, what would that mean for the future of design? Explore the high-tech future of this age-old art as NOVA unfolds The Origami Revolution.

WHOLE HEART SOLUTION WITH DR. JOEL KAHN
Would you like to feel and look younger by learning simple steps that make your heart younger? The science is clear that having a young heart leads to a young body. Just as your skin ages and wrinkles, your heart can also show signs of aging. When you focus on ways to stay “young at heart,” you improve the way you look, think, move, sleep, play, love, and live! America’s Healthy-Heart Doctor, Joel Kahn, MD was originally trained
to stop heart disease with angioplasty and pills. But after over 25 years as a cardiologist, he has witnessed the near-miraculous impact that diet, exercise, sleep, meditation and supplements have on the heart. According to Dr. Kahn, the vast majority of people who suffer from heart attacks, strokes and other heart-related deaths don’t need to suffer all. More than 75 percent of heart disease diagnosis could have been prevented. The most potent medicines and treatments for heart disease are not found in a physician’s office, pharmacy or hospital. They have less to do with technology, innovation or even medications but much more to do with what you think, do and eat. In this 60-minute program Dr. Kahn will present his secrets on how to create a whole body solution for a long and healthy life, reveal which simple test can show your real “heart age,” and share his Ten Steps to a Younger Heart. Dr. Kahn is a graduate of the University of Michigan and has been practicing invasive, interventional and preventive cardiology in Detroit since 1990. He is a Clinical Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) at Wayne State University School of Medicine and Associate Professor of Medicine at Oakland University Beaumont School of Medicine.

28 Day Metabolism Makeover with Amy Myers, MD
It's remarkable how many symptoms-large, small, and in between-are connected to your thyroid. In fact, just about every aspect of your metabolism depends on thyroid function; if your thyroid isn't working up to par, you won't be either. Healing and supporting your thyroid is one of the most important ways you can connect to your body-and one of the best ways to achieve optimal health.
If you have the sinking feeling that your regular doctor is missing something, because he or she keeps insisting that you're fine, whereas you know that "fine" is the last thing you are, this program has answers for you. That's right. Even if your doctor says you don't have a thyroid problem, you very well might. It's all too sadly possible that the tests you're getting aren't accurate, your doctor is misinterpreting the results, you're being under-medicated, you're getting the wrong type of medication-or you're suffering from some combination of all those factors. Meanwhile, you're feeling lousy: exhausted, old before your time, and-since your doctor won't believe you-possibly crazy. So breathe a big sigh of relief and get ready to feel better. Because in this program, you're going to find out that you were right all along. There is something wrong with you. You do have a thyroid disorder, it can be treated, and as soon as it is, you're going to feel like a whole new person.
Airs Tuesday, March 21st at 8PM and Wednesday March 29th at 7PM
