During the first half of the spring 2017 semester there were three reports of four missing orremoved signs from gender-inclusive restrooms on campus In response to these occurrencesstatements were issued by Gallaudet University President Roberta Bobbi Cordano and VicePresident for Administration and Finance Paul Kelly as well as LGBTQA Resource CenterCoordinator Dr Cara Miller
A community response meeting was hosted by the LGBTQA Resource Center on March 2nd Thesubject was further addressed during the March 7th student forum with President Cordano hostedby the Student Body Government and Graduate Student Association
The March 10th and March 4th statements respectively from President Cordano and VicePresident Paul Kelly as well as the accompanying vlogs may be accessed through GallaudetUniversity email The March 1st statement by the LGBTQA Resource Center may be viewed herewith the ASL version above as signed by Dr Miller and University Communications staff memberAlex Leffers
The Department of Public Safety (DPS)s investigation into the person(s) responsible for themissing or removed signage is ongoing Any individuals with further information that may aid in theinvestigation detailed above are asked to report directly to DPS

Online registration is now open for LGBTQA students in thegraduating class of 2017 who want to participate in the 6thannual Gallaudet University Lavender Graduation Held this yearon Wednesday May 10th Lavender Graduation is an annualcultural graduation celebration for undergraduate and graduateGallaudet students who identify as lesbian gay bisexualtransgender queerquestioning intersex asexual or activeallies to the LGBTQA community
Lavender Graduation acknowledges LGBTQIA+ studentsachievements and honors their contributions to the campuscommunity During the ceremony Lavender Graduates will bepresented with purple stoles and tassels to wear with theirgraduation regalia during Commencement on Friday May 13th
Advocates named by the students will be thanked with certificatesof recognition and the LGBTQA Resource Center Annual Awardswill be presented to recognize and honor students staff andfaculty members who have made significant contributions insupport of the LGBTQIA+ community on campus Following theceremony there will be a light dessert reception by invitation only
The LGBTQA Resource Center is delighted to announce that DrBarbara M Kannapell GU 61 will be the Keynote presenter forthis years Lavender Graduation Dr Kannapell is a nationally andinternationally known scholar and lecturer on bilingualism ofAmerican Sign Language and English and the culture of DeafAmericans She previously worked at Gallaudet as a researcherlinguistics specialist and staff fellow We are delighted to bewelcoming her as our featured presenter for the 2018 LavenderGraduation

Online registration is now open for LGBTQA students in thegraduating class of 2017 who want to participate in the 6thannual Gallaudet University Lavender Graduation Held this yearon Wednesday May 10th Lavender Graduation is an annualcultural graduation celebration for undergraduate and graduateGallaudet students who identify as lesbian gay bisexualtransgender queerquestioning intersex asexual or activeallies to the LGBTQA community
Lavender Graduation acknowledges LGBTQIA+ studentsachievements and honors their contributions to the campuscommunity During the ceremony Lavender Graduates will bepresented with purple stoles and tassels to wear with theirgraduation regalia during Commencement on Friday May 13th
Advocates named by the students will be thanked with certificatesof recognition and the LGBTQA Resource Center Annual Awardswill be presented to recognize and honor students staff andfaculty members who have made significant contributions insupport of the LGBTQIA+ community on campus Following theceremony there will be a light dessert reception by invitation only
The LGBTQA Resource Center is delighted to announce that DrBarbara M Kannapell GU 61 will be the Keynote presenter forthis years Lavender Graduation Dr Kannapell is a nationally andinternationally known scholar and lecturer on bilingualism ofAmerican Sign Language and English and the culture of DeafAmericans She previously worked at Gallaudet as a researcherlinguistics specialist and staff fellow We are delighted to bewelcoming her as our featured presenter for the 2018 LavenderGraduation

To commemorate Pride Month were collating and sharing acampusshywide calendar of LGBTQA events Members of theGallaudet community can contact the LGBTQA Resource Centeror use our Facebook event page to announce and advertisecampus activities programs or events that relate to the themes ofLGBTQA identity pride selfshycare healthy relationships andorcommunity strength and growth
