SCIENCE ACADEMY NEWS We have lots to inform you about this week from the Science Academy. Firstly we completely the

trilogy of Science Live! Events with our top science students from both Yr10 and Sixth Form and there is more about the Chem Live event in this

    article.

We are pleased to reveal that we have a whole week of workshops and activities

at Rainhill that is happening at the end of this month. The @RainhillScience event is a great opportunity for all our students to engage with science and relate their studies to the wider world.

We have also included some of the exciting events happening in conjunction with The Science Academy at the end of this article. Look out for further details

both on the Sixth Form twitter account and in the future newsletters.

Chemistry Live 2017 Year 10 students from Rainhill Sixth Form Centres Science Academy travelled

to Manchester University to experience Live: Chemistry 2017. Students were treated to a series of lectures from prominent Chemists, experts in their fields, about the importance of Science in modern day society. Students also

experienced what it would be like to study at University, and how the Science Academy at Rainhill will equip them to make the transition between GCSE and

    A-Level.

Guest speakers included Dr Suze Kunde, who talked about the uses of carbon chemistry in the modern world. Pupils from Rainhill responded to questioning

from Dr Kunde, and gave excellent answers in front of a crowd of around 1000 A-Level students! Well done!

Students were also treated to a lecture about the use of humans to generate electricity and how we behave like batteries. Dr Jamie Gallagher discussed how close we actually are getting like the movie Matrix, in harvesting the

electrochemical processes inside the human body.

Pupils were also given an insight into how examiners mark exam papers, and were given numerous exam technique strategies to use in the future.

I thought the trip yesterday benefited me, especially the exam revision tips, and informed me on what A-level Chemistry would be like. I especially enjoyed the last lecturer, who talked about the human battery Kate Wilson, 10B

The lecture about water, carbon and rare-earth metals was really interesting. The lecture about the

human battery by Jamie Gallagher was really interesting, as it got me thinking about how we waste so much energy in everyday life. Isaac Bradley, 10C.

    YEAR 8 OPTIONS FOR 2017-20

WHIZZ KIDS YEAR 11 Well done to Year 11 on their recent LP3 exams. Conduct going into and out of the exams were excellent and pupils worked hard in the exam. The invigilators

    were impressed, well done!

There has been a fantastic uptake on the National Citizenship Service, where we have had 167 expressions of interest and 51 pupils already signed up. We

are currently at the Silver status and need another 15 pupils to confirm to get Gold Status, which would be excellent.

We are also the lead school in the whole borough and the only school currently with Silver status, so well done to all pupils who have signed up to give

something back to the community and to get involved in this programme.

All pupils who have expressed an interest, make sure that you get in touch with NCS or speak to Miss Fryer or Mr Lankertis. Well done!

MONTHLY MATHS REVISION MARCH A bit of maths a day will help your child remember the basic skills. Answer the questions and the solutions will be in next months newsletter.

containing a barcode or your ParentPay login details please contact

    [email protected].

To place an order for the uniform please complete the order form by clicking
