March 2016 ~ Volume 47 Two of the biggest debates across the country include the FBI’s request to obtain the contents of a government owned cell phone assigned to one of the San Bernardino killers. What could be in that cell phone could, could offer clues in the case to other people’s involvement, or not but could, could offer some intelligence as it relates to a wider jihad network. The FBI does maintain a hacking division where they do have the software ability to hack beyond passwords in computers to solve cases. These cases are only approved by a court ordered warrant. Belt Kit : What it is and What it does.

By Reg TEP.Over the years I have heard people say about what gear they carry, why and how its

the best.

Most of these I normally end up just smiling away at and saying to myself “ you mustn’t

of tried

carrying all that ”.

I have had people say how they intend to carry 12 magazines full of 7.62x39 plus some

loose rounds

along with radios, ponchos, rain gear, camel pack and 2 days worth of food along with a

fully stocked

first aid kit, all on there belt kit.

All of them say that’s what they’ll carry in a B.O ( bug out ) situation along with there

Bergen ( bug out

bag ) which have everything but the kitchen sink in them. So this is why I have decided

to put pencil to

paper to write my thoughts on all this.

There are levels of gear that are designed for different situations, however that is a whole article on its own. I am just going to talk about belt kits, nothing more for now.For those who are not sure what a belt kit is, it is simply a belt with several pouches attached with equipment in it. Some times people put a yoke ( harness ) on it to help spread the weight, some don’t, it is a personal choice. It really all depends on what is in the pouches and how much it weighs. Before I start talking more about what can go in your belt kit, this is a important note to remember. You must be able to know how to use EVERYTHING in your belt kit and it must really have 2 uses. There are some exceptions to the rule but again whatever you pick you need to remember you have to carry this. So pick carefully and practice with what you intend to carry to test the items out and gettingused to carrying the weight over rough terrain. My belt kit, I try to keep simple for 1 reason, the more simple it is, the easier it is for me or someone in a group to be able to use. You should train to be able to live off the contents of your belt kit for a minimum of 2 days without breaking into a sweat. So it should have 2 days of food and water in it.This is what I have carried in the past and still carry at present. Yes I have made a few upgrades over the years, but the overall principles are the same on what I carry.

Water bottle

Metal mug ( fits around the water bottle )

Tin foil ( aluminum foil )

Magnesium block and striker

Puritabs ( water purification tablets foil packet type )

Spoon.

Double right hand pouch:-

2 reserve magazinesSmall rifle cleaning kit.

Now, I am sure that some are already

saying while reading this, where is his “ fill

in the blank “

well it is quiet simple, certain items go into

your smock ( jacket ) pockets and are not

attached to your

belt kit, but are attached to/ or on your

person. Things like a note book, knotted

length of 550 cord

( nowadays called ranger beads ) to name

a few.

Now please remember that I have scaled

back what I carry. I am not saying that what

I carry is the best,

what I am saying is that, what I carry is

what works best for me. You will need to

find what works for

you and what doesn't, only then will you

have the best gear selection available to

you.

Something I was told many years ago and it

has covered my arse many times, “ is use

up the contents

of your Bergen ( bug out bag ) first “. That

way if you have to lose your Bergen ( bug

out bag ) your

belt kit is still fully stocked with food and

water.

Oh and one more thing remember, we are

not in the military, so carrying tons of

loaded magazines and

extra ammunition on your belt kit might not

be the smartest thing to do. That’s why you

carry your

Bergen ( bug out bag ) to put the extra items you need but not immediately.

How much total gold is owned and held by the U.S. Treasury Department?

As of October 31, 2004, the total gold owned by the U.S. Government is approximately

261.5 million fine troy ounces (FTOs). Of that amount, the U.S. Treasury Department

holds approximately 248 million FTOs, all of which is secured and protected at U.S. Mint

facilities. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York (FRB-NY) holds the remainder of

U.S. Government-owned gold, or approximately 13.5 million FTOs, on behalf ofthe U.S.

Treasury. Included in the Federal Reserve-held gold is approximately 2,300 ounces in

bar and coin form that is on display at various Federal Reserve Banks and Branches. The

Department of the Treasury's Financial Management Service (FMS) publishes the

monthly Status Report of U.S. Treasury Owned Gold at http://www.fms.treas.gov/gold .

This report, based on monthly reports prepared by the United States Mint and the FRBNY,

lists the gold holdings by location.

Where is this U.S. Treasury-held gold physically located?

Treasury-held gold that the United States Mint secures and protects is stored at Fort

Knox, KY; West Point, NY; and Denver, CO. Treasury-held gold, in the form of gold

coins and blanks, is held at various Mint facilities, including West Point, NY;

Philadelphia, PA; and Washington, DC. A very small portion is periodically secured at

Mint contractor facilities for fabrication into coin blanks.

Has the amount of gold owned and held by the U.S. Treasury Department changed

much throughout the years?

The Mint began producing gold commemorative coins in 1984. Since then, the amount

of Treasury-owned gold has decreased approximately two million ounces due to coin

production. The Mint produces gold coins from Treasury-owned gold only when

authorized to do so by legislation or by the Secretary of the Treasury. Additionally, the

Mint has purchased over 14 million ounces ofnewly mined gold to produce the American

Eagle gold proof and bullion coins since 1987.

Where are gold coins manufactured?

The West Point Mint manufactures all gold coins except in rare cases when authorizing

legislation specifies another Mint location. http://www.governmentattic.org/docs/US-Mint_Overview-Accounting-US-Gold.pdf

The E-Rate program provides financial assistance to schools and libraries to receive telecommunication service, while the Lifeline provides assistance to low-income consumers. Funding for both comes out of the FCC's Universal Service Fund, which surpassed a record $12 billion last year.Money for the fund comes from a fee imposed on telecommunication services. Currently, that amounts to an 18.2 percent tax on telephone service. However, since reclassifying broadband providers as public utilities last year, the FCC has been considering whether to impose the same fee on Internet service.

"Every one of your constituents is going to have to pay more for Internet access to fund the FCC's spending obligations that it has already made through the Universal Service Fund," Pai said. "We should be straightforward with the American people and decline this opportunity to impose a broadband tax."

COOKS CORNER – Mama TargusHOME MADE MINCEMENT

First off I would like to thank my Mom for showing me the true way to make mince meat. This recipe has been handed down for the last 3 generations

Deer – Elk – Moose – Caribou

*Always use the neck meat* - if you don’t want to fix this at the time of harvesting the animal - cut the neck into sections and freeze in freezer paperTake the meat out and let it thaw – my mom always told me leave it out for a day and then put it in the fridge until thawed. Take your neck and put it in a large enough pot and bring to a boil – remember to cook until tenderAfter it’s done – set it out to cool – and then put in fridge3 to 4 lbs of meat (after cooking) – bone and fat removedTake meat and use an old fashion grinder – you don’t want to use a professional grinder because it will make the meat to fine 3 boxes of raisins

1 container of candied fruit*it would be the type that you would use when

making a fruit cake* (ground in the grinder as well) – make sure that it’s not

mince though because you really want to see the color of the fruit

2 ½ cups cider vinegar

4 quarts *home made apple sauce* (you can use store bought but it won’t take

like love)

1 ½ pounds real butter (you can use salted or unsalted)

2 pints peach marmalade

2 teas cloves

4 teas cinnamon

1 tea. Nutmeg

*Mix all together* - you will need a very large roasting pan to fit it all into it –

cook 2 ½ hours at 350 degree’s turning at least every ½ hour

Make sure you have a taster available to try while it’s cooking!!! (Very important)

Sterilize quart canning jars – put into water bath for ½ hour remove and let them

sit out - caution jars will be hot so make sure that when you take them out you

put them on a towel. The last thing you want is for your jars to break!!!!

*these will keep for a very long time because of the vinegar*

1 lb cooked Macaroni (drained)

2 can’s evaporated milk + about 1 cup whole milk

Army engineers patent limited range, self-destructing bulletThe bullet was designed for use in close combat areas where

the projectile could reduce the risk of stray bullets hitting civilians.

PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. — Three employees of the U.S. Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center, or ARDEC, were awarded with a U.S. patent for their proof of concept work on a limited range projectile..The concept for the limited range projectile includes pyrotechnic and reactive material. The pyrotechnic material is ignited at projectile launch. The pyrotechnic material ignites the reactive material, and if the projectile reaches a maximum desired range prior to impact with a target, the ignited reactive material transforms the projectile into an aerodynamically unstable object. The practical use that the three men intended to apply the concept to .50 caliber ammunition. However, the patent covers the idea and technology behind the concept as a whole so it could theoretically be used in various calibers of small arms munitions. "We wanted to protect the U.S. government's interests and position," McFarlane said about filing the patent.

TRIAL AND ERRORComputerized modeling and simulation were performed to compare the inventive projectiles to the .50 caliber M33 projectile and the .50 caliber M8 projectile."Conceptual designs were ran through and evaluated via modeling and simulation," Kim said. "Three concepts were submitted with the patent, however, not all were feasible," he said."A proof of concept test was perfected and results indicated the need for concept refinement and pyrotechnic mix improvement," Kim said. The group states that there are significant benefits to the warfighter in using a limited range projectile.

HOW THE DISASSEMBLING PROJECTILE WORKSThe concepts vary, however in theory the process would work like this:During launching of the projectile, pyrotechnic initiating material is ignited by energy produced by propellant in the cartridge case. Or, pyrotechnic initiating material may be ignited by energy produced by bagged propellant, if the projectile is a separately loaded projectile.Pyrotechnic initiating material ignites the reactive material. Prior to impact of the projectile or with a target, and while the projectile is airborne, energy produced by the ignited reactive material transforms the projectile into an aerodynamically unstable object. The transformation into an aerodynamically unstable object renders the projectile incapable of continued flight. In one concept, the projectile is rendered unstable by the melting of the copper jacket, which produces a highly irregular shape. In another, the projectile is rendered unstable by the separation of the cylindrical portion from the base portion and the separation of penetrator from the projectile assembly. Learn more here.

Remember all the weird discussions a few years ago about the government buying up all the ammunition? Remember when we questioned the agencies buying it? When one agency has spent their appropriated congressional dollars and then other agencies have some left over and there is a need for a massive and well time purchase….like ammunition…could this be one of the answers to our questions?

US Army in Germany takes delivery of 5,000 tons of ammunitionThe delivery is the largest single Europe-bound shipment in more than a decade

MAINZ, Germany — More than 5,000 tons of U.S. Army Europe ammunition arrived at a port in Germany last week — the largest single Europe-bound shipment in more than a decade. Some 415 containers, with a variety of small arms, combat vehicle ammunition, artillery rounds and similar munitions, were loaded onto trains at the north Germany port of Nordenham and taken to a U.S. Army depot in Miesau, where they were being sorted Monday and readied for distribution.Forces will already rely on the new stockpile during an upcoming U.S. Army Europe training exercise, Anakonda 2016, which will take place in Poland in June and will involve 20,000 multinational troops.

The "critical shipment" comes amid a re-aligning of NATO forces along the alliance' eastern flank and recent talk of a "new Cold War" between Russia and the West. Forces will already rely on the new stockpile during an upcoming U.S. Army Europe training exercise, Anakonda 2016, which will take place in Poland in June and will involve 20,000 multinational troops.

Officials say that the maintaining of large stockpiles of weapons' ammunition in Germany "allows U.S. and NATO forces to quickly access ammunition and other supplies for short notice NATO operations."

Cops are asking Ancestry.com and 23andMe for their customers’ DNA

When companies like Ancestry.com and 23andMe first invited people to send in their DNA for genealogy tracing and medical diagnostic tests, privacy advocates warned about the creation of

giant genetic databases that might one day be used against participants by law enforcement. DNA, after all, can be a key to solving crimes. It “has serious information about you and your

family,” genetic privacy advocate Jeremy Gruber told me back in 2010 when such services were just getting popular.

Now, five years later, when 23andMe and Ancestry both have over a million customers, those warnings are looking prescient. “Your relative’s DNA could turn you into a suspect,” warns Wired,

writing about a case from earlier this year, in which New Orleans filmmaker Michael Usry became a suspect in an unsolved murder case after cops did a familial genetic search using semen

collected in 1996. The cops searched an Ancestry.com database and got a familial match to a saliva sample Usry’s father had given years earlier. Usry was ultimately determined to be innocent

and the Electronic Frontier Foundation called it a “wild goose chase” that demonstrated “the very real threats to privacy and civil liberties posed by law enforcement access to private genetic

databases.”

The FBI maintains a national genetic database with samples from convicts and arrestees, but this was the most public example of cops turning to private genetic databases to find a suspect. But

it’s not the only time it’s happened, and it means that people who submitted genetic samples for reasons of health, curiosity, or to advance science could now end up in a genetic line-up of

criminal suspects.

Both Ancestry.com and 23andMe stipulate in their privacy policies that they will turn information over to law enforcement if served with a court order. 23andMe says it’s received a couple of requests from both state law enforcement and the FBI, but that

it has “successfully resisted them.”

23andMe’s first privacy officer Kate Black, who joined the company in February, says 23andMe plans to launch a transparency report, like those published by Google, Facebook and Twitter, within the next month or so. The report, she says, will reveal

how many government requests for information the company has received, and presumably, how many it complies with. (Update: The company released the report a week later.)

“In the event we are required by law to make a disclosure, we will notify the affected customer through the contact information provided to us, unless doing so would violate the law or a court order,” said Black by email.

Ancestry.com would not say specifically how many requests it’s gotten from law enforcement. It wanted to clarify that in the Usry case, the particular database searched was a publicly available one that Ancestry has since taken offline with a message

about the site being “used for purposes other than that which it was intended.” Police came to Ancestry.com with a warrant to get the name that matched the DNA.

“On occasion when required by law to do so, and in this instance we were, we have cooperated with law enforcement and the courts to provide only the specific

information requested but we don’t comment on the specifics of cases,” said a spokesperson.

As NYU law professor Erin Murphy told the New Orleans Advocate regarding the Usry case, gathering DNA information is “a series of totally reasonable steps

by law enforcement.” If you’re a cop trying to solve a crime, and you have DNA at your disposal, you’re going to want to use it to further your investigation. But

the fact that your signing up for 23andMe or Ancestry.com means that you and all of your current and future family members could become genetic criminal

suspects is not something most users probably have in mind when trying to find out where their ancestors came from.

“It has this really Orwellian state feeling to it,” Murphy said to the Advocate.

If the idea of investigators poking through your DNA freaks you out, both Ancestry.com and 23andMe have options to delete your information with the sites.

23andMe says it will delete information within 30 days upon request.

Howard Robard Hughes was born in Houston, Texas, on December 24, 1905, the only child of Howard Robard Hughes and Alene Gano Hughes. His father earned millions by inventing special machinery for

the oil industry. He attended private schools in California and Massachusetts and was very inventive as a child. At the age of twelve he made a radio transmitter out of an electric doorbell, and later he made a self-starting motor for his bicycle. At the age of fourteen he made his first airplane flight. Hughes then attended the Rice Institute in Houston, and the California Institute of Technology. His mother died when Hughes was sixteen and his father just two years later, leaving him an orphan with an estate worth $871,000 and a patent (right to ownership) for a drill bit used in most oil and gas drilling that brought large revenues to the family's Hughes Tool Company, manufacturers of the bit. In 1927 Hughes entered the motion picture business and produced such films as Scarface (1932), and The Outlaw (1941), and the box-office smash Hell's Angels (1930).

In 1928 Hughes obtained a pilot's license. His interest in aviation (flying) led him to found the Hughes Aircraft Company in Glendale, California, in 1932 and to design, build, and fly record-breaking airplanes. He set a world speed record in 1935, transcontinental (crossing a continent) speed records in 1936 and 1937, and a world flight record in 1938.

In 1939 Hughes began work on an experimental military aircraft, and in 1942 he received a contract to design and build the world's largest plane, a wooden seaplane, later nicknamed the "Spruce Goose." It was supposed to serve as a troop carrier in World War II (1939–45). Hughes suffered a nervous breakdown in 1944 and was critically injured in the crash of his experimental military plane in 1946, but he recovered and flew the huge seaplane the next year. In 1956 Hughes loaned $205,000 to future President Richard Nixon's (1913–1994) brother Donald in a successful effort to influence an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) ruling on the medical institute.

The Hughes conglomerate (a group of diverse businesses) became involved with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and in 1975, built an undersea exploratory drilling ship which was actually used by the CIA to attempt to recover a sunken Soviet (Russian) submarine.

What is this? Where is it? What is the name of this place?

It is a secret…well kinda…no one talks about it, UNTIL NOW

New images have emerged from a ‘new’ top-secret US facility that only a few knew it even existed. The Google Earth images were revealed days ago showing the clandestine secret facility — known as Area 6 — which is located deep in the Nevada desert on the Yucca flat, according to reports from the Las Vegas Review Journal.According to reports, the top-secret facility is run by the National Nuclear Security Administration which has worked very hard in keeping the secret and working towards hiding the existence of the secret facility from prying eyes. In fact, the base was considered so important that even defense industry experts had no idea the base existed until now.The airbase has a 5,000 feet runway which is mainly used for aircraft tests for federal agencies such as the Department of Defense and Homeland Security, reports the Las Vegas Review Journal.

In late 1945, one-armed John J. Macreedy (Spencer Tracy) gets off a passenger train at the isolated desert hamlet of Black Rock.

Certain that something is wrong, Macreedy sees the local sheriff, Tim Horn (Dean Jagger), but the alcoholic lawman is clearly afraid of Smith and is impotent to help. The veterinarian and undertaker, Doc Velie (Walter Brennan), advises Macreedyto leave town immediately, but also lets slip that Komoko is dead. Pete's sister, Liz (Anne Francis), rents Macreedy a Jeep. He drives to nearby Adobe Flat, where he finds a homestead burned to the ground and wildflowers. On the way back, Coley Trimble (Ernest Borgnine) tries to run him off the road. When Smith asks, Macreedy reveals he lost his left arm fighting in Italy.

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”
