To ensure high standards of governance, accountability and performance, our objectives for the next three years are to:

Evaluation and evidence base

To build an evidence based culture, our objectives for the next three years are to:

1. Achieve evidence based prioritisation of investment decisions between and within the Strategic Plan’s priorities

2. Achieve evidence based design, planning, implementation, evaluation and adaption of our programs

3. Demonstrate the outcomes of the Strategic Plan and associated programs using evidence

4. Provide credible and useful advice to assist with the incorporation of sustainability principles and actions in policy frameworks

5. Develop and maintain an evidence base that supports our decision making and demonstration of outcomes.

State-wide engagement

Strategic reinvestment of the landfill levyMinister recently announced the following new funding packages as part of a new ‘Conserve, Invest and Save’ strategy.

These are the first of a series of funding packages to address our priority areasof organics, and landfill and resource recovery in regional and rural Victoria.

$3.5 million Rural Landfill support package> The Transition Support to Improve Rural Landfill Infrastructure package will help

rural landfill operators to transition to best practice standards.

$5.5 million Regional Organics Recovery and RWMG support packages> $2.5 million will fund a regional organics recovery strategy to support organic waste

collection systems, processing and market development across regional Victoria. This project will be led by Sustainability Victoria in partnership with regional waste management groups (RWMGs) and regional and rural local councils.

> $3 million will support RWMGs to fund priority waste projects in regional Victoria over the next two financial years.

State Government election commitments

Budget Expenditure Resource Committee (BERC) projects we are delivering this financial year:> Energy efficiency rebates for low income Victorian households

– Vic Gov committed $5m over 2 years to help support and ease the increased costs of living for eligible Victorian concession card holders.Gas Heater Rebate is a $700 discount off supply and installation costs for eligible concession card holders when switching from an electric heater to a 4star or higher gas heater.Whitegoods Appliance Rebate of $100 off the purchase price of energy efficient fridges and washing machines.

> ResourceSmart AuSSi Vic– Vic Gov committed $8.4m over four years to build on and expand ResourceSmart

AuSSi Vic program across more Victorian schools.Includes a one-off Education Facility Energy Efficiency Grant to undertake energy audits or install energy efficient or sustainable infrastructure.

> Resource Efficiency Business Program– Vic Gov committed $5m over 2 years to support small to medium sized Victorian

businesses and reduce increasing business costs.

Resource Efficient Business program

To strengthen Victorian small and medium businesses and growthe economy by:

> Helping businesses reduce business costs through efficient use of resources

> Recognising businesses that have implemented resource efficient practices in their operations

> Enabling businesses to communicate their achievements for competitive advantage

Key aspects of the program focus on reducing costs by shifting to more environmentally sustainable practices such as using energy, water and materials more efficiently and reducing waste and pollution.

> Program is being developed in consultation with leading business and industry groups, environment and government organisations.
