A record 206 entries have beenhipped to Connecticut judges in the006 Golden Press Card Awards com-etition. This is up considerably fromast years 163 entries and 153 receivedhe year before.
The entries represent work for 22 dif-erent publications, broadcast stationsr websites by 107 different individual
journalists or teams. The entire EastTennessee area is represented fromBristol to Chattanooga to Crossville andpoints in between.
The Connecticut SPJ chapter willsend entries for our chapter to judgeshortly, so if you would like to be part of this effort, please contact GPC Co-chairs Adina Chumley

Annual contest attracts record number of entries; judges needed
FOI in Tennessee, with emphasis on the proposedchanges in the state Open Meetings Act, will be thetopic of the next ETSPJ chapter program. Panelistsinclude
Rick Hollow, Knoxville attorney with 30 yearsexperience in First Amendment law, listed for manyyears as one of the Best First Amendment lawyers inAmerica.
Frank Gibson, executive director of the TennesseeCoalition for Open Government.
Tom Chester, managing editor of the Knoxville News Sentinel who has had extensive experience withrecalcitrant meetings holders and records custodians
Bill Shory, news director at WBIR-TV, involvedin an open records battle last year with the city policedepartment.
Moderator for the session will be Dorothy Bowles,UT professor and a founding member of TennesseeCoalition on Open Government.
The meeting will be in the Moskos Room at theKnoxville News Sentinel at 7 p.m. March 29.

A Lifetime of Stories will be thetheme of the SPJs Region 12 confer-ence in Memphis on March 31 and April1. Sonny Albarado, news editor at The(Memphis) Commercial Appeal, andfaculty members at the University of Memphis are compiling a lineup of engaging speakers and panelists for theevent.
Students will have an opportunity tohear a panel of professionals talk aboutWhere Are Tomorrows JournalistsGoing to Work? at the kickoff sessionat 4:30 on Friday afternoon. In addition,students are invited to bring along tapes,portfolios and resumes for critiques.
The Center for Southern Folklore,119 South Main, will be the site for areception from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Friday
night.Topics on Saturday include Covering Katrina and its aftermath,

Time to register for regional conference; Memphis will be host chapter
Eight folks eager to poke good-natured fun atnewsmakers and current events attended the initialFront Page Follies script writing session in mid-February.
Chief writer David Lauver arrived armed with astack of ideas to prime the creative pump of thegroup gathered around the conference table at theMoxley-Carmichael offices.
Song titles, their standard lyrics and suggestionsfor revised, satirical lyrics flowed freely for an houror so before the little band dispersed, some mem-bers volunteering to hone their composing skillsbefore the next script meeting.

raising event for UT and Pellissippi scholarships, a year-round activity. Jean Ash is Follies coordinator this year, assuming duties from long-time chiehoncho Alan Carmichael.
