ST. PETER CATHOLIC SCHOOL Principal’s Weekly Newsletter
March 2, 2016
Dear St. Peter Families,
My name is Alex Enk and I am a fourth grader in Mrs.
Mahne’s homeroom. My favorite subject in school is Math. Last Fri-
day, February 26th, I became Principal for a day! I had so much fun!
I think all the teachers are very nice and funny, and that is
why I wanted our teachers to lead the rosary! My favorite part of be-
ing Principal was running the R.O.C.K Raffle. Everyone works
really hard to earn rock rewards, and I was able to announce the win-
ners! The prizes looked really good this month! I was even able to
award my homeroom with a pizza party! It was fun to hand out rock
rewards all day long to kids I thought deserved them. At the end of
our day I really enjoyed leading the Stations of the Cross. It was great
because all of the teachers for a day helped out.
It was also fun getting on the intercom and giving the school an-
nouncements. I have only attended St. Peter School now since 2nd
grade. I am glad that I was able to start attending this school. St. Peter
School has been a fun experience. I have made great friends, and the teach-
ers are interesting and make learning exciting. One of my favorite things
about St. Peter School is being able to attend mass once a week.
God Bless,
Alex Enk

Dear Parents,
We began our week with our birthday celebration of our wonderful St. Peter Catholic
School on the actual birthday since it is a leap year! St. Peter, Sister Justina, Sister Lioba,
and Sister Lawrence all visited for the day to celebrate 138 years! Thank you for your
commitment and for being a part of our school’s rich history!
I also wanted to share with you some of the professional development conferences that
our teachers have attended in the last few weeks. Last week our pre-k and kindergarten teachers participated in
a conference by Dr. Jean, who is an expert in early childhood teaching and learning. Our teachers learned
songs, finger plays, and other rhymes to make learning letters, numbers, colors, and shapes more fun, interac-
tive, and more engaging!
Our English Language Arts teachers also attended the Plain Talk about Reading, which is an international con-
ference by the Center of Developmental Learning about
various reading strategies. Teachers learned more about
formative assessments, Close reading, how to choose vo-
cabulary to teach, writing from informational text, the
challenges of learning to write and so much more.
I love that our school values continuing education in the
commitment of the teachers in their quest to always learn
more and through the commitment of our parents in fund-
raising to fund professional development.
Blessings,
Suzanne Roth

Members of the St. Peter 6th grade basketball team contributed, organ-
ized and distributed 100 lunch bags to victims of the tornadoes in
Laplace last week through community service with the Ascension of Our
Lord Knights of Columbus this past weekend. Not all of the team was
able to attend but they all sent in donations to make up the lunch bags.
The team was able to ride through the neighborhoods and see the de-
struction first hand. They learned a valuable lesson about supporting
our community and just how blessed we are.
The Name of God Is Mercy As we continue our Lenten practices and examine our consciences to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation during this holy season, we should also meditate on the mercy of God. This week’s Faith Fact pre-sents a catechesis on mercy from Pope Francis, who uses Sacred Scripture to explain how “The Name of God is Mercy.” Click here for more.
