WAIHI EAST SCHOOL SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 07/2015 18 March 2015

Kia ora,

This week each class had an education session about using nit combs. You may ask why bother? Nits are

one of those things that are easily passed around a school, and a problem that gets up many peoples noses. I

wish I had a magic cure but I don’t. One tip from our Health Nurse Tracey, is daily combing with a fine tooth

comb. If you are like me with hair like gorse, it can be tricky! However, if you do want to keep these little

suckers at bay, please persist with this process. Nit combs are available at the office.

Our lovely Nik Laing is running a maths workshop next Tuesday 24th March from 1.30—2.45PM in the

staffroom. Please come along – I promise she will give you tips and tricks to help engage and stimulate maths

learning in the home setting.

Last week we trialled the black and white newsletter as part of our cost cutting measures. Thank you to

the four whanau who gave feedback on this. We will continue to print out the newsletter in black and white,

however all whanau who have supplied their email address will also get a special treat in their inbox-this!! If

you do not want the newsletter emailed to you, please let Sharon S in the office know.

To help with the organization of our Pumpkin weigh in, we would like you to let us know how many whanau

are attending. With this information, we will start organizing kai.

Have you noticed the painted areas around the school? To tighten up on playground incidents, which

usually happen in hidden areas, we have new ‘out of bounds’ zones. These zones will allow for better supervision

of the playground. As always we are reinforcing each child to make positive choices in the playground including

walking away and seeking help.

Nga mihi nui,

Emily ([email protected])

SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB Issue # 2 closes next Friday 27th March. Orders should be back at school the following week.

The groups are small and give a chance for the children to talk together about their experiences of loss and change. Seasons are now taking enrolments for term 2, 2015 so if you think this would suit your child please fill in the slip which came home in last week’s newsletter and return to school ASAP. Off The Big Rock

I slipped over on the rocks and I got a fright. So I jumped in the

water. It was green dirty water, it felt like an eel was underneath

me. It gave me a fright, so I yelled “What was that under me?

Wow! I’ve never seen an eel before, that was amazing to see an

eel.”
