You can participate by removing the label from an empty prescription bottle at home and bringing it to church with a financial gift inside. This bottle can be placed in the Fill a Prescription for the Needy container at the entrance of the church . Empty bottles will be available next to the display . We ask for your support this Lenten season - through prayer, volunteering and financial support, if possible. We thank you in advance for helping our Church to make such a remarkable impact in the lives of the poorest of our Diocese. Together we are truly filling this critical community gap in our local healthcare delivery system.

Fill a Prescription for the Needy

March 24th and 25th

The St. Vincent de Paul Community Pharmacy has demonstrated excellence in providing prescription medications to individuals in the 12 civil parishes of our Diocese since opening in 1995. Last year, they filled more than 33,000 prescriptions valued at more than $2.2 million, but could not fill all the prescriptions that people in our community so desperately needed. LIFE TOGETHER Dear Friends, Already we are looking toward the Fifth Sunday of Lent. Before we get there, we will stop for a visit with the Man Born Blind this weekend. This familiar story explores the corporate dimensions of sin in the world. This is because during the Gospel Story many of the persons in the story refuse to “see” the grace of Christ Jesus present and at work in the life of the man who is cured of his blindness. More importantly, we watch as the man who once was blind moves gradually from not having sight, to the insight of faith in which he identifies Jesus as the Savior. The drama of the story patterns the story of conversion of being inwardly blind to seeing God acting in one’s life. This is really one of the best stories in the Gospels. Next Saturday is the annual Gator Gala, which raises funds for the Parish School. There will be a silent and live auction, along with special food and activities. This will be held in the Parish Hall. I hope you can be part of the annual successful event. Its not too early or late to be thinking about the upcoming events of Holy Week. As you know, I always encourage those of you with children to bring them to the services on these special days, particularly the Triduum or “Three Days”, i.e., Holy Thursday, Good Friday , the Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday. I call them three days because we count the days beginning with Day one Holy Thursday evening until Good Friday evening, the Day two is Good Friday evening until Easter Vigil , and finally Day three Easter Vigil until Easter Sunday evening. On Holy Thursday [7:00pm] we celebrate the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, including the Washing of the Feet and prayer before the Blessed Sacrament until 11:00pm. On Good Friday [3:00pm] we will have the Passion Account from St. John’s Gospel, Veneration of the Cross, Holy Communion. There will be a Vigil before the Cross from 7:00pm-9:00pm. The Easter Vigil will begin at 8:00pm outside around the “new fire”, and will include the Liturgy of the Word, Christian Initiation through Baptism and Confirma-tion and the celebration of the Eucharist. These are the days which hold our greatest stories and traditions. Plan on keeping these days in and outside of Church. Lenten Dinners offered this coming Friday, in the Hall beginning at 5:00pm.

Lenten Confessions continue every Monday night from 6:00-7:00pm in Church. See you then. Love,

PLEASE PRAY FOR UNBAPTIZED ELECT AND OUR BAPTIZED CANDIDATES

During this Lenten season, we ask your prayers for the unbaptized Elect and the baptized Candidates who are enrolled in the RCIA process of our parish. These individuals have been involved in this process for several months and are now entering into an intense period of reflection and prayer. In the entrance of our church you will see a display with the names and photographs of the Elect and Candidates who are requesting Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist through the RCIA process. When you see these adults and children at Mass, please introduce yourself and let them know that you are praying for them. Through your prayers and words of encouragement, those who seek to know Him in the Catholic faith, will feel the genuine love and support of the commu-nity of St. Jean Vianney.

Awakening Faith/Catholics Come Home

If someone you care about is interested in returning to the Catholic faith, let them know there is nothing

to fear, and that there is a community and fellowship waiting to welcome them home. The LORD

promised that HE will always love and remember them. It only takes an open heart, prayer, and some

encouragement to take that first step back home.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY MINISTRIES Public Transit Reform Update The Capital Area Transit System (CATS) has suffered for the past several years with under funding and overall lack of support in its efforts to provide adequate transportation for our community. CATS is in danger of ceasing operation by this summer if a dedicated revenue source is not provided. There has been much attention to this crisis in our media, and the member institutions of Together Baton Rouge are rallying a city wide effort to bring the facts to the people. City wide public transit academies have occurred in February, and a larger gathering will be held on March 20th at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, 970 Scenic Highway. If you’d like to learn more about this issue, please consider attending this gathering, and RSVP on the display board in church or call the parish office. On April 21st there will be a city-wide vote on a dedicated tax to fund and improve CATS. Home owners residing within the city limits will be asked to vote on this issue to add a 10.6 mil tax to their annual property taxes. Be informed. Ask questions, and get answers. Then, vote!
