PARISH MISSION STATEMENT We the people of St. Raphael Roman Catholic Church bring together diverse gifts and backgrounds to form a growing vibrant community centered in the Eucharist, the source and sign of our unity. In pilgrimage to the Kingdom of God, our mission is to demonstrate God's presence and love through: worshipping together, spreading the Good News, serving others, and enjoying Christ-Centered activities. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we are committed to
sharing our time, our talents, and our treasures to fulfill God's will for our parish.
March 15, 2020 Third Sunday of Lent
Reflections on today's Gospel
JOHN 4:5-15, 19-26, 39-42 (Exodus 17:3-7; Psalm 95; Romans 5:1-2, 5-8)
KEY VERSE: "The water that I will give will be-come in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life" (v.14).
TO LOVE: Have I shared Christ's life-giving water with others this Lent?
TO SERVE: Lord Jesus, increase my thirst for you.
TO KNOW: The woman who met Jesus at the well was despised as a heretical Samaritan, a descendant of the Assyrian occupation. With their mixed Jewish and pagan beliefs, Samaritans were regarded as unfit to worship in the temple in Jerusalem. Thus, the Samaritans built their own temple on Mount Gerizim. Jesus looked beyond national and religious boundaries to the coming of the Spirit who would unite all believ-ers in worship of one God. At first, the woman was suspicious of Jesus, but as he revealed her inner need, the woman changed her attitude. She addressed him as "sir" then as "prophet." Then she recognized Jesus as the Messiah, and finally as her personal Savior. Leaving her empty water jar behind (a symbol of her arid life), the woman ran off to tell the people in the village that she found the Lord. Many believed on the strength of her testimony. Jesus' disciples had gone to the city to buy food, and when they returned, he asked them to pray for others, who, like the woman, would harvest the ripe field of souls that lay before them. Each of us needs a personal en-counter with Jesus. St. Augustine said, "It was for you that Jesus was weary from the journey."
We are so glad you joined us! If you are new to our parish, we would like to invite you to become a member.
The Welcome Booth in the vestibule is open the first full weekend of every month or come by the Parish Office.

During Lent we would ask that you prayerfully consider giving to our food pantry Personal Care Items. We have in our lines, many homeless
people or people living in their cars. Aside from food, they have a different type of basic needs, such as, hand warmers, wet wipes/baby wipes, Blistex, medicated hand moisturizer, insulated goves, Neosporin, Band-Aids’, clinical strength deodorant, antibacterial gel, toilet paper, medicated foot cream, thick socks, cushioned insoles, large Ziploc bags, dental care items, Vitamin Water, nutritional drinks. During our season of Lent, we will also accept, only brand new, clothing items. For your sacrifice, may you experience a Blessed Lenten Season!

Prayer Requests
Daily Readings
Dear Parishioners, Bishop Taylor has promulgated some changes to the way we as Catholics will worship, pray, learn and live for the next few weeks due to the spread of Covid-19. Attached is his promulgation for the Diocese and below are bullet points for how we will implement these changes at St Raphael. 1) All non-essential gatherings at Parishes for the rest of March and April are cancelled or postponed,
pending further notice. This includes but is not limited to previously scheduled Confirmation ceremonies. • PRE and RCIA classes are cancelled effectively immediately. Students will be marked as present
for the rest of the semester. The elect, candidates and students in RCIC/RCIA will come into the
church at the Easter Vigil on April 11th
• All parish groups (including our youth groups), ministry groups, and meetings are cancelled
beginning Monday, March 16th.
• All retreats are cancelled through April.
• Our Gift Shop is closed effective, Monday, March 16th
• Our parish office will be closed to the public effective Monday, March 16th, but you can still call
the office and do your business by phone during our normal business hours.
• All appointments with our priests are cancelled or postponed until at least May.
• Our Religious Sisters will not be seeing anyone until at least May.
• Our Food Pantry is closed through April.
2) The Sunday Mass obligation is dispensed for all Catholics effective immediately. Public Masses shall be sus-
pended starting the weekend of March 21-22, except for small groups at the discretion of the priest. • All Masses are cancelled effective, Monday, March 16th. We will resume public Masses as soon as
Bishop Taylor gives us permission to do so.
• Our Adoration Chapel will close this Sunday morning. Adoration will begin again starting
Monday, March 16th from 9:00AM until 6:00PM in the main church. Please keep at least 6 feet
between you and the closest adorer.
3) All communal penance services are cancelled. Face-to-face confessions are suspended, and confessions
may only be heard with a physical screen/barrier. • Our reconciliation service as well as other area reconciliation services are cancelled.
• For the time being, we will continue to offer reconciliation during our regularly scheduled times:
Tuesday 5:00PM – 6:00PM
Wednesday 5:00PM – 6:00PM
Thursday 5:00PM – 6:00PM
Saturday 9:00AM – 10:00AM
Saturday 3:00PM – 4:00PM
• We will use the cry room and the sanctuary keeping that 2-meter distance between priest and
penitent
4) All Holy Water fonts shall be drained and dried until further notice.
• They have already been removed here.
5) Except for very small parishes, only those entering the Church through RCIA may be present physically for the Triduum. All others may participate in Triduum services via TV or electronic media.
• Our Easter Triduum will be reserved only for those coming into the church, their sponsor and
immediate family.
• There will be no public Easter Sunday Masses.
• All other Holy Week services are cancelled.
6) On Palm Sunday, priests will hold a short private service, after which people may pick up blessed palms made available outside of church.
• We will have blessed palms available by Saturday afternoon, April 4th by 4:00PM in the vestibule. During this time when Masses are cancelled, the Church will have little to no income for what could be 6 to 8 weeks. Out of justice, we will continue to pay our employees as normal. Our financial outlook for this fiscal year which will end on June 30th is not good. As of February 28th, we were running a $56,000 deficit. Our yearly property insurance bill is due this month which runs about $30,000. We need approximately $180,000 to cover payroll and expense through April. We, also, need $19,930 per month for our building loan payment. By the end of the year we could be looking at a deficit of around $250,000, which we do not have. Our deficit is large because of three factors; weekly collections are way down, the added expense of having our sisters here and increase payroll due to increases in the minimum wage. I am asking each of you to give and give generously during this time. Please place your weekly donation in the brass mail slot just outside the front entrance. There will be a sign with an arrow to help show you the location. Other great options are to sign up for online giving or mail your donations. Staff will be checking for dropped off donations and mail most days. ON-LINE GIVING: Did you know you can set up automatic bank drafts for ALL of your parish/diocesan donations? Visit our secure On-Line Giving site to find out more. Now is a great time to sign up! May God bless us all during this time with his Spirit and his presence. Please pray also for those affected by Covid-19, especially those who have died.

BIOGRAPHIES Here is the second of our Diaconate Candidates…
We are the López Cortés Family, I Oscar, my wife Alejandra, our children Alexis, 21 and Axel, 18. We are originally from Mexico City. We got married in the year of 1994, and the second year of mar-riage we came to the United States for a second honeymoon, which is not over yet. We arrived in the city of Springdale in November of 1995, with many dreams and in search for a better future. We registered at the Parish of San Rafael in September 1998. We liked this country to start our family and in that same year our daughter Alexis was born and three years later our son Axel was born. We were able to attend Mass every Sunday, and when we started serving in the parish it was then when we were invited to live a family retreat camp. So much was the impact it had on our lives to attend this camp that in a short time we joined the ministry. Then we became Extraordinary Ministers of Communion. We also serve in the marriage preparation group and are certified as instructors of the Natural Planning Method. How was my call to diaconal formation? On one occasion, when I was with Father John Connell, at a meeting where the Pastoral Plan for the Diocese of Little Rock was being made, I saw the need in our community. This was the first thing that led me to continue learning more about my faith and how to continue better serving the community. It has been a very hard process. That is why we continue asking for your blessings and prayers. Thank you from the López Cortés family: Alejandra, Alexis, Axel and Oscar. GOD BLESS YOU.
