“Don’t confuse me with the facts.”
• In a court of law, facts matter
• In the rest of the world beliefs matter
• People know what they believe……….
in spite of ALL of the facts.
• Perceptions are more real the reality!

• You are friends with a student who has conversation/photo on his page that is a violation of school policy. What do you do?
• Even if you don’t see it, do his other friends assume you did…so you condone the behavior?

What Can AOS92 Do?
1. Do nothing until a disaster occurs.
2. Ban contact on all Social Media.
3. Find middle ground:
A. Make people aware of pitfalls
B. Give some advice
C. Provide school-own media

#1: keep work, work — and keep your personal life, private
Potential trouble
Consider Having Two Accounts:A Purely Private Account& A Public Face Account
It’s NOT just policy; it’s the LAW

#2: Know your settings! Can people see who I'm sharing with?People who can see a post you share can see:
1. AudiencePeople who can see your post can see the audience you chose to share next to your post: Public ( ), Friends (+) ( ), or Custom ( ). If you chose to use Custom to include or exclude specific people from seeing your post, then only "Custom" will show next to your post. People will not be able to see the individuals you specified.
2. ListsIf you choose to share with one of your default lists (Close Friends, Acquaintances, Restricted) or a custom list, the people on that list will be able to see the other people included on that list;however, they won’t be able to see the name of that list.
If you choose to share with one of your smart lists, the people on that list will only be able to seethe name of the list.
And watch out for changes
to those settings!!

#4: Realize, ONCE you post it,you lose
control of it
Is this the picture you want in the staff lounge, copied and posted in the hall, or in the Morning Sentinel tomorrow?
