This program will offer fifteenStreamwood High School students theopportunity to examine todays whitecollar manufacturing careers. Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) helpschildren learn how to say no to drugs. More importantly, it also gives students theskills and strategies to make better life choices. As I sat in on these graduations, I lis-tened as the children read essays regarding the impact the program had on their lives, and how it informs them. I am always amazed by the heartfelt appreciation our childrenhave for the program, and for the lessons learned. Congratulations, graduates!

GO GREEN Get Ready for Spring!Healthy Lawn, Healthy EnvironmentA beautiful and healthy lawn is good for our envi-ronment. It can resist damage from weeds, dis-ease, and insect pests. Doing little things now, goesa long way to having a healthy spring.

Longer is better. Grass that is slightly longmakes a strong, healthy lawn. Weeds have ahard time taking root when grass is around 2to 3 inches.

Water early. Water when footprint impres-sions stay in the lawn and do not spring back.Water early in the morning for short periods sothe soil can absorb the water.

Correct thatch buildup. Thatch is a layer ofdead plant materials between the grass bladesand the soil. When thatch is thick, water andnutrients cant get to the soil.

Recycle grass. Don't pick up the grass clip-pings after you mow. Use a mulching lawnmower that cuts the clippings finer and feedthem into the lawn.

Let your lawn breathe. Once a year, removesmall plugs of earth to allow air and water toaerate the grass roots.

The Village and Chamber of Commerce held a breakfast on February 19to consider possible changes to the sign code regarding electronic mes-sage centers. The Village wanted the business community's input on elec-tronic signs before any changes were made. Over 30 business ownerswere on hand to offer insight and feedback on the proposed codechanges.

The proposed changes would allow businesses to seek a special use permitto have an electronic sign, if the sign meets certain size, placement, andoperating requirements. Changes in electronic window signs were also dis-cussed. Village President BillieRoth explained that the ZoningBoard of Appeals would heartestimony on these proposedamendments, and make a rec-ommendation to the VillageBoard for consideration. Sheencouraged interested businessowners to attend the March 4,2015 Zoning Board of Appealsmeeting at 7:00 pm in theVillage Hall Council Chambers.
