ThemissionoftheMaquoketaCommunitySchoolDistrictistoensurethatallstudentsarelearningathighlevels.

TAGMissionStatement

Thisprogramprovidesdifferentiatedandacceleratedopportunitiesthatbestservestudentswithuniquegiftsandtalents.Studentsarechallengedwithavarietyofstrategiestomeetalllearningstylesbyprovidingdirectionandencouragement,allottingtimeandresources,sothestudentscanbecomeself-directed,life-longlearners,andproductivecitizens.Programming for talented and gifted students is amandated function in the state ofIowa (Iowa Code Chapter 59) for students in grades K-12. It requires local Boards ofEducation to include the following program components in their respective servicemodels:•Provisionofvalid,systematicandmultiplecriteriaforidentification•Definedprogramgoalsandperformancemeasures•Aspecifiedanddifferentiatedcurricularprogramforidentifiedstudents•Annualreviewandevaluationprocedures•Aprogrambudget•Specificallyendorsedinstructionalpersonnel

Formal identification of the talented and gifted students in Maquoketa CommunitySchoolDistrictoccursduring thestudents’K–2grades through teacher identification(Appendix A) and FAST assessment scores. Thereafter, students identified as talentedandgiftedwillhavetheirprogrammingneedsmet,monitored,andmodifiedbytheTAGteacherasneeded.TAG services include collaboration with the classroom teacher for the provision ofdifferentiated instruction, specializedservicesandextensionopportunities to studentsidentifiedbasedonareasoftalentsandgifts.

StudentsareconsideredapartoftheMaquoketaCommunitySchoolsTalentPoolwhenthestudent’slearningbehaviorisconsistentlyatahighlevelofperformanceinthe

followingareas:Studentswillbeassessedforidentificationpurposesthroughstandardizedandnon-standardizedprocedures(AppendixA).Thefollowingcriteriawillbeconsideredforinclusion:

ü IowaAssessmenttestscoresataminimumof95%NPR(oneormorecontentareas)
