Annual Hospice Bar-B-Q Chicken Fundraiser… Mountain Valley Hospice & Pallative Care is sponsoring its ANNUAL Yadkin County Port-A-Pit BBQ Chicken Lunch & Dinner (pick up only) on Friday - August 24th from 11 am until 6:30 pm at the Yadkinville United Methodist Church. Tickets are $ 8 per plate and are available from Carolyn Graham or at their office (at the corner across from MBC). Proceeds from this fundraiser will help to care for patients with a limited life expectancy and their families. Desserts are needed for the plates. This is a wonderful missions opportunity for our congregation. If you are willing to bake or donate a cake (no icing) or brownies for this worthy cause, please sign up by Sunday - August 19th on the sheet in the Narthex. The cakes or brownies need to be sliced and individually wrapped and you may take them to the Hospice Office on Thursday (Aug 23rd) from 2 to 4 pm or to Yadkinville Methodist Church from 6 till 11 am on Friday (Aug 24th). On behalf of Hospice—THANK YOU for ALL YOUR SUPPORT and HELP!!

OUR ADULT CLASSES IN SUNDAY SCHOOL… ON SUNDAY - August 5th- ALL of our ADULT Sunday School classes will meet together in the Sanctuary because of Vacation Bible School. We’d ask for each class to appoint someone to help complete your class’ attendance roster - so we can make sure each person in your class is counted.

CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING… It’s time for our Ministry Leaders & Committee Chairpersons to meet again to plan & coordinate our ministry objectives for the fall. Our next meeting of the Church Council will be on Sunday afternoon - August 19th at 4 pm. Please look ahead and come prepared to share any activities & events involving your ministry through December. If you need an updated church calendar - please see Jimmy and he will be glad to supply you with one.

Annual Church Conference - August 29th

Our next Church Conference will be on Wednesday - August 29th at 7 pm. We consider this conference - our annual conference and the sole purpose is the election of NEW Deacons and ADOPTION of the Nominating & Committee on Committee’s reports for 2012-2013. Our goal is to place the names of the 6 Nominee’s for Deacon in the bulletin by Sunday - August 19th - giving everyone time to prayerfully consider the THREE they feel God is calling forth to serve our church family over the next 3 years.

SOME IMPORTANT REMINDERS…. Jeanie & Marie are putting all the final touches on our preparations for this year’s VBS which begins THIS SUNDAY with “registration” at 5:30 pm!! We’ll take time

during our morning worship service THIS Sunday to “commission” ALL our VBS workers. If you’re planning on working in VBS and are looking for some inspiration, please take a moment and go to www.maplewoodbc.org/audio/vbs and listen to these daily devotions. If you’re not able to help out in this year’s VBS - there is still an important way you can make an impact...PRAY!! You will find “prayer cards” -

outlining specific ways you can reinforce what is happening in the classroom each day!! We’re also going to need some volunteers to help transform our facilities into a HANGAR and other NATURAL WONDERS immediately following THIS Sunday’s worship service!! If you have any questions, please see Jeanie or Marie at the ticket

counter in the Narthex!!

HANDS of HOPE FUNDRAISER… Those involved with the Hands of Hope Medical Clinic are organizing a BBQ fundraiser on Friday - August 17th. They will provide “lunch delivery” from 11 am till 1 pm OR you can pick up at Yadkinville United Methodist Church from 4 till 6 pm. The plates will consist of: Tiptons BBQ, slaw, beans, roll and dessert. The cost is $ 8 per plate and tickets can be purchased through Clay & Sandra Overby. Please make any checks payable to Hands of Hope Medical Clinic. They are also looking for volunteers to help provide the “dessert” or “help make the lunch deliveries”. There are TWO sign-up sheets on the table in the Narthex. If you would like to help provide a dessert - they ask for you to please deliver your whole cake or brownies on Thursday (Aug 16th) and the drivers are needed for Friday from 10 am till 1 pm. Please see Clay or Sandra Overby for more details.

Great time to join us... The summer always provides a “change of pace”...but now it’s time for us to

begin to rehearse again. Beginning Wednesday evening - August 8th at 7:45 pm,

we would like to invite ANYONE (18 yrs old or older) to join us as we begin to

look forward to several of our church’s special services - FOUNDER’S DAY,

THANKSGIVING and CHRISTMAS!! Any questions, see Rich or Joyce.

CLASSICAL CONVERSATIONS HOMESCHOOL GROUP… On Tuesday - August 7th at 6:30 pm - they will be having a “welcome meeting”

LOOKING FOR SOME COOKS… For the past several years, we’ve been offering a MEAL on Wednesday nights, so our families could enjoy spending

time together with their fellow members at MBC. It has enriched our lives; as well as, our church fellowship PLUS offered the opportunity for our TEAMS to raise MONIES for a variety of mission endeavors. So, we’re looking for 4-6 different teams of people...who

would serve on a rotation basis...preparing & serving our “Family Night Meals” from Sept 5th - November 14th. Your team would decide which mission or ministry would benefit from the proceeds of your meal.

We’d like to meet with those interested in serving as TEAM CAPTAINS on Wednesday - August 15th at 6:15 pm. If you served last year and would like to continue to be involved in this ministry effort or are interested in “jumping in” this year - please make every

effort to have someone from your team present, so we can assign the rotation, and plan out the menu’s for September. If you have any questions, please see Jimmy.

LEARNING TO BE THE LIGHT… As a church - it is essential to help others know and understand the Bible completely. It is also important to be able to share our faith with anyone who might ask us about Jesus. It takes courage and training to fulfill this task. Beginning on Wednesday - September 5th - 6:30 till 7:30 pm - Jason plans on training our children to become Champions for Christ and Defenders of their Faith! He will be using a curriculum entitled “Answers in Genesis”. It is designed to engage students with biblical truth - from Genesis to Revelation. Not only does it engage their minds with God’s Word, but it is also an apologetic, teaching them Christian principles and challenging them to return to the Word of God as their foundation for LIFE. It is Jason’s desire that by the completion of this curriculum, our students will experience personal transformation by the renewing of their mind (Romans 12:2), mature faith (Hebrews 6) and a faith that becomes their own (John 3:3,7). Each week, they will discuss the questions to some of the common issues that confront them on a daily basis - school, media, friends, so on … finding their ANSWERS in GOD’S WORD. The complete outline of the first 12 lessons is in the August Table Talk - see Jason for a copy. Transportation (to & from) the church is available - if that will assist in helping your student be able to attend each week. Please indicate this need as you register your child on the sheet in the Narthex. If you have any further questions, please contact Jason at (336) 244-3747.

LOOKING FOR SOME HELP WITH HOMEWORK… THIS FALL - Jason is hoping to start a “tutoring ministry” on Wednesday afternoons from 4 till 6 pm. This will be a time your student can get help with their school work and assignments. If you’re interested in signing your student up - please let Jason know.

MINISTRY with PURPOSE… In the July Table Talk newsletter that Jason provides our children’s & middle school parents - he included a SURVEY seeking your input & suggestions to help assist him in carrying out his ministry with purpose. Some of the basic questions revolve around providing him with their sports & activities schedule...sharing with him the current life issues you are teaching them at home and how he can best assist you? Please be open & honest with your responses to the survey questions. He truly desires to develop a comprehensive ministry to our children & middle-schoolers - understanding that some of the best teachable moments happen away from “church” and take place in the everyday setting of “life”. Once you’ve completed the survey, please make sure to turn it into Jason. Thanks for helping us minister to the needs of your student & family.

KEEP US INFORMED… Please let us know the “mailing address” of your college student. We would love the opportunity to stay connected with them while at school and share with them what’s happening here at MBC through the newsletter!!

BRIGHT BEGINNINGS…. Many children start school without basic supplies & the confidence these

things can bring. THEY NEED OUR HELP!! Joyce recently shared how the

Yadkin YMCA plans on meeting this special need on Saturday - August 4th by

providing haircuts, new pair of shoes, book bag packed with school supplies,

new clothes & a delicious lunch to 42 deserving children from West Yadkin. It

is their hope to provide a BRIGHT BEGINNING to these students SCHOOL

YEAR!!

There is still a NEED for volunteers who will be paired up with these

children; as well as, donations of school supplies, book bags and money. There

is some information on the table in the Narthex...along with forms you can use

for your monetary donations. Thanks for caring and being so generous...it is

an ETERNAL investment!!

THE PARABLES OF CHRIST… As we wrap up our series for the summer, here is a list of the titles & passages for this month. Come ready to see how these simple lessons teach us powerful TRUTHS!!

Aug 5th - The Parable of the Two Men - Luke 18:9-14 Aug 12th - The Parable of the New Wineskins - Matthew 9:14-17

Aug 19th - The Parable of the Talents - Luke 19:11-27 Aug 26th - The Parable of Building a Tower - Luke 14:28-33

SOON WILL BE TIME TO PROMOTE... The beginning of school is fast approaching...so it’s time to “promote”

up into our NEW Sunday School classes. On Promotion Sunday (August

26th) - you will begin in your present class and at 10:30 am the bell will

sound inviting our youth & children to “move up” into their new class

and meet their new teachers!!
