Don’t upgrade a firmware for IB-NAS4220-B to any other model or vice versa!

Firmware Upgrade Attention: Please terminate all external processes like the Twonky Media

server before upgrading.

The IB-NAS4220-B is constructed to allow a complete upgrade of the firmware. The firmware upgrade form can be found selecting:

Control Panel Maintenance

Firmware upgrade

The upgrade starts by selecting the upgrade file, which has to be located on the local hard disk. By clicking on the “Browse…” button a dialog pops up where you are able to select the file. When having selected please click on the “Start Upgrade” button and the upgrade process starts by uploading the upgrade file, followed by process of initialization.

Attention: The firmware upgrade process might take up to 30 minutes time. This process must not be interrupted. Please make sure that the power supply is not turned off until the upgrade process is complete.

Attention: Please save all data and configuration externally before performing an upgrade! Pay attention to all remarks along the upgrade file!

Click on the “Start Upgrade” button to upload the file and start the upgrading process, which might take up to 30 minutes and must not be interrupted

After the restart it is necessary to log in again

Please initiate the HDD after the upgrade of the Firmware.

New functions The upgrade described above introduces the ability of the IB-NAS to implement additional software packages. Therefore the possibilities of the IB-NAS are will get approximately unlimited. Two example application are available by now, which can be installed.

Example application Description

SSH Server Access on a system shell via ssh protocol User: root Password: raidsonic

Streamripper Internet radio recording tool: records internet radio broadcasts as MP3 on the HDD. If the internet radio station sends also meta tags (title, artist, etc.), the files are named and the tag information is associated appropriately.

Installation of an application

The installation of an application is pretty simple. The referring installation file has just to be copied in the “new_software” folder in the “applications” folder in the “public” share, and the IB-NAS has to be rebooted.

Attention: After the upgrade described above the HDD needs to be initialized in order to grant that the appropriate folders are generated on the HDD.

Copy the installation file in the „new_software” folder in the “applications” folder in the “public” share and restart the IB-NAS afterwards

Attention: After the installation of packages like the SSH server is it possible that the restart may take longer, because some keys for the strong encryption have to be generated.

Where to find the new functions

After the installation, the new functions have been integrated into the submenu “Network Services”.

Control Panel Network Services

The new functions will be integrated here:

SSH server

The SSH server is a possibility to control the IB-NAS directly.

Clicking on “Save” executes the changes

The SSH server can be started here. Just set a check mark to do so

Using a program like the PuTTY the IB-NAS cann be accessed:

Click on “Open”

Enter the IP-Address of the IB-NAS here

When accessing the IB-NAS using putty for the first time, a security request will follow, which just has to be confirmed.

Here you can sign in for example as „root“ using the default password „raidsonic“

By entering a Linux command like “PS” one can now view a list of processes (programs) running on the NAS. On entering “exit” the window will be closed again.

Streamripper

By clicking on “Record” the recording is started

Here, an URL of an internet radio station can be entered

The URL of an internet radio station can be figured out for example with Winamp:

Click on “View file info…” to display the URL of the internet radio station

By clicking with the right mouse button on the status line, a context menu is displayed

Here is now the URL of the internet radio station. Copy it using <Strg>-<C> and past it using <Strg>-<V> in the dialogue of the IB-NAS user interface mentioned above

After entering the URL click on “Record”

Now the status of the recording is displayed. The recording will be preceded until the “Stop” button is clicked, even when the browser window will be closed

The MP3s will be stored in the folder “music” in the “public” share. This will be done in subfolders named like the internet radio station they have been recorded from. The recording of such a file will first be done in another subfolder called “incomplete”. After a successful completion of the file it will be copied to the folder above. incomplete recordings remain the folder “incomplete”.
