Manual – UHX71B Controller (Performance Class power)12

3.2 Overview of controllers3.2.1 Freely programmable motion and logic controller (MOVI‑PLC®)

The controller can be operated as freely programmable motion and logic controllerMOVI-PLC® when using SD cards of the type OMH41B. MOVI-PLC® is a series of pro-grammable motion and logic controllers. It allows drive solutions, logic processes andsequence controls to be automated simply and efficiently using IEC 61131-3 compliantprogramming languages.• MOVI‑PLC® is a comprehensive solution because it is able to control the entire

portfolio of SEW inverters and offers a simple upgrade to a more powerfulMOVI‑PLC® version due to universal execution of the programs.

• MOVI-PLC® is scalable due to several different hardware platforms (standard, ad-vanced, etc.) and modular software concepts (libraries for numerous applications).

• MOVI‑PLC® is powerful thanks to comprehensive technologies (such as electroniccam, synchronous operation) and the control of sophisticated applications (such ashandling applications).

Performance class MOVI‑PLC® standardDH.21B controllers enable coordinated single axis movements and integration of ex-ternal inputs/outputs as well as Drive Operator Panels (DOP). The DH.21B.. option istherefore suitable for use as a module controller or stand-alone controller for machinesof medium complexity.

Performance class MOVI‑PLC® advancedThe DH.41B controller is characterized by a greater variety of interfaces and a higherperformance level, which allows complex calculations and interpolated movements, forexample. The DH.41B option is therefore suitable for the automation of cells and ma-chines. The integrated Ethernet interface enables direct connection of the DH.41Bcontroller to the control level.

Performance class MOVI‑PLC® powerThe UHX71B controller in the performance class "MOVI-PLC® power" is the high-endmotion and logic controller for demanding automation tasks. The realtime operatingsystem ensures short response times and a high-performance connection of SEWsystem buses and standard fieldbuses. Demanding visualization solutions can be im-plemented with the Windows® operating system running at the same time. TheUHX71B controller is suited as a module controller for complex motion control tasks, such as electronic cam and robotics, as well as for the complete automation of ma-chines and systems.

4.1.5 SBusPLUS interface connection (LAN 2)SBusPLUS (connection LAN 2) serves as system bus master of the fast SBusPLUS.

SBusPLUS bus topologySBusPLUS is designed for linear bus structure with RJ45 connectors. The SBusPLUS

slave units are connected to LAN 2 via a shielded twisted-pair cable.

INFORMATIONAccording to IEC 802.3, the maximum cable length for 10/100 MBd Ethernet (10Ba-seT / 100BaseT), e.g. between two SBusPLUS stations, is 100 m.

Bus terminationBus termination (e.g. with bus terminating resistors) is not necessary. If a device hasno follow-up device, this is detected automatically.

Setting the station addressSBusPLUS devices from SEW‑EURODRIVE do not have an address that can be set onthe unit. The units are detected by their position in the bus structure and are assignedan address by the SBusPLUS master.

4.4.5 Connecting the OSC71B option to an SBusPLUS networkThe OSC71B option is designed for a linear bus structure and can be connected to anEtherCAT®-based SBusPLUS network. The LAN 2 port of the UHX71B controller is con-nected to terminal X30 of the OSC71B option.

INFORMATIONSetting an SBusPLUS address is not necessary as the address is assigned automatic-ally via the SBusPLUS master.

Setting device identification (in preparation)You can set a unique device identification for each option. This allows you to explicitlyidentify the SBusPLUS node in the network even if the bus wiring has changed.

4.4.6 Connecting SBus nodes to the OSC71B optionYou can use terminal X38 of the OSC71B option to connect SEW devices with SBusinterface (CAN) or third-party devices with CAN interface.22

Terminating resistor• Switch-on the system bus terminating resistor at the start and end of the CAN sys-

tem bus connection (MOVIDRIVE® B, DIP switch S12 = ON; MOVITRAC® B, DIPswitch S1 = ON). For all other devices, turn off the terminating resistor (MOVID-RIVE ® B, DIP switch S12 = OFF; MOVITRAC® B, DIP switch S1 = OFF). If, for ex-ample, the OSC71B option is located at the end of the CAN system bus, you haveto set the DIP switches S2:23 to ON (= terminating resistance 120 Ω).

• If the OSC71B option is installed in the MOVIAXIS® master module, you have toset the DIP switches S2:23 to OFF. In this case, the terminating resistor is integ-rated in the system bus cable.

INFORMATIONFor detailed information on how to use MOVI-PLC® power apps, refer to the onlinehelp.

5.7.1 Start screenThe start screen allows you to directly call up MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio and changeimportant Windows® system settings. You can perform these settings conveniently inMOVI-PLC® power apps or use the Windows® dialogs.

5.7.2 Setting the LAN and VNET addressSelecting "LAN address/VNET address" on the start screen opens the "Addresses"window. The "Addresses" window is split has the following content:• On the left side (LAN settings), you can set the name, the IP address and the sub-

net mask for the physical network card (LAN 1).• On the right side (VNET settings), you can set the name, the IP address and the

subnet mask for the internal virtual network card (Windows section). If you changethe VNET settings of the Windows® section, you also have to change the corres-ponding settings on the control section as it is otherwise not possible to establish aconnection between the control section and the Windows® section.

INFORMATIONUse the Windows® Control Panel for further settings.

5.7.3 Create write protectionYou have to shutdown Windows® before you switch off the supply voltage of the con-troller. Otherwise you may encounter data loss. With the "Create write protection"function, you can switch off the supply voltage of the controller before you shutdownWindows® without losing any data. In addition, this function minimizes the write accessto the CFast memory cards. As long as write protection is enabled, there is no write access to the blocked sectionsof the CFast memory card. To make sure that Windows® programs keep working flaw-lessly, the actual write accesses are routed to the volatile RAM.This means, for example, that a newly created text file is no longer available after asystem reboot. The changes made to a file are lost as well after a system reboot. Notethat Windows® does not generate a message when you try to write on a write protec-ted medium. The "Create write protection" function allows you to except certain folders or files (e.g.log files) on the hard drive from the write protection. The "Create write protection" function can only be set via MOVI-PLC® power apps. It isnot possible to make the settings via Windows®.

Reserved RAMYou can set the size of the reserved memory according to your requirements. Eachwrite access of a program is routed to this reserved section.

INFORMATIONDo not use the activated "Write protection" function in combination with an activatedWindows® swap file.

5.8 Startup and visualizationIn order to use the OMW71B/72B Windows® memory card as visualization platform, use the HMI-Builder.PRO software that is included in the MOVITOOLS® MotionStudioengineering software. In addition, you require a suitable monitor, e.g. OPT71C-120 orOPT71C-150, and the ORV71C USB-Dongle to permanently enable the visualizationruntime of the HMI-Builder PRO software.

INFORMATIONFor more information, refer to the "HMI-Builder PRO" manual.

5.8.1 Configuring the Windows® section during startupDuring startup, you should activate the Windows® swap file and deactivate the "Writeprotection" menu in the MOVI-PLC® power apps. Due to the Windows® swap file, thereis more memory available for applications. Deactivating the "Write protection" menu isrequired as otherwise it is impossible to save a changed MOVITOOLS® MotionStudioproject to the hard drive.

5.8.2 Configuring the Windows® section during operationOnce the plant has been started up successfully, deactivate the Windows® swap fileand activate the "Write protection" menu in MOVI‑PLC® power apps. By deactivatingthe Windows® swap file, you make sure that the system does not perform unneces-sary write operations on the Windows® memory card. Activating the "Write protection"menu also allows for switching off the supply voltage during operation.

INFORMATION• The "online" connection status is NOT a response message which informs you

that you are currently connected to the unit or that your unit is ready for commu-nication. If you need this response message, pay attention to the section "Settingup the cyclic availability test" in the online help (or in the manual) of MOVITOOLS®

MotionStudio.• Project management commands (such as "download" and "upload"), the online

unit status, and the "unit scan" work independently of the set connection mode.• MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio starts up in the connection state that you set before

you closed down.

6.3.2 Selecting the communication mode (online or offline)Proceed as follows to set the connection mode:1. Select the connection mode:

• "Switch to online mode" [1] for functions (online tools) that should directly influ-ence the unit.

• "Switch to offline mode" [2] for functions (offline tools) that should influenceyour project.

FunctionParameter requests from MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio are transferred from a PC [1]with an Ethernet TCP/IP interface to a switch [3] via the Ethernet [2].The switch [3] then directly passes on the parameter requests to the Ethernet interfaceof the units [4].

6.4.2 Address Editor

OverviewThe Address Editor is a freeware tool offered by SEW‑EURODRIVE GmbH & Co KG.It is available once the "MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio" engineering software is installed. However, it is used separately. You can use the Address Editor to establish a communication for your units via Ether-net and to address the units. If you use a patch cable to connect the Ethernet interface of your engineering PC tothe Ethernet, the Address Editor detects all Ethernet nodes in the connected networksegment (local network). 22

In contrast to "MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio", you do not need to set the IP address ofthe engineering PC to the local network. For this reason, Address Editor is a practical addition to "MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio".Proceed as follows if you have added other Ethernet nodes to an existing network:• Start the Address Editor• Searching Ethernet stationsOnce you have found the added Ethernet nodes, you have two options:• Setting the detected Ethernet nodes according to the network (addressing)• Setting the engineering PC according to the network (address)

Starting the Address EditorYou can use Address Editor immediately after installing MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio.Proceed as follows to start Address Editor:1. Close MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio.2. Start the Address Editor from the Windows start menu via:

[Start] / [Programs] / [SEW] / [MOVITOOLS MotionStudio] / [Address Editor]

Searching for Ethernet nodesYou can use the Address Editor to find Ethernet nodes in a network. It can also beused for detecting new Ethernet nodes. The Address Editor also helps you locate theEthernet interface of detected Ethernet nodes.Proceed as follows to search for Ethernet stations:1. Select "Ethernet" as the interface for PC and unit. To do so, click on the corres-

ponding option field in the lower part of the window.2. Click [Next] to confirm your selection and proceed to the next dialog.3. Wait for the network scan to start automatically. The default setting for the waiting

time (scan timeout) is 3 s [2].Note: If no units are detected during the network scan, the wiring might be inad-equate, or you have several network cards installed (activated) in your PC.In this case, proceed as follows:• Select the required card. To do so, click "Select network card" [3] in the toolbar.• Start the network scan manually. To do so, click "Start network scan" [1] in the

toolbar.
