MANOR COLLEGE
ANNUAL GIVING SOCIETY NEWSLETTER
JANUARY 2013
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
I want to thank our donors whose contributions make so much possible at
Manor College. Your support demonstrates your commitment to Manor
College, and particularly to the students who benefit from your generosity.
Over 84% of all Manor College students receive financial aid assistance
each year. The Basilian Scholarship Fund provides stipends to as many as
65% of these students. Without this scholarship support many deserving
young people could not afford to attend Manor.
What we are able to accomplish at Manor, how we are able to transform
individual student lives requires financial support, hard work and
dedication from our faculty and staff; but most importantly, dedication
from our friends, alumni, and the entire Manor community. Manor College
graduates are highly sought after by employers and other institutions of
higher education. They are confident that they are getting first class, highly educated employees
and students. Manor is committed to promoting the dignity of the person so our students see
themselves in God’s light as beloved and valued. Our alumni remember the teachers who cared
about them, who insisted that they stretch for the sky, who required more not less.
I hope you appreciate that your donations make a difference to our students, to the quality of
education, and to the future of Manor College.

The girls came to Manor College because Manor is a great Ukrainian Catholic College that of-
fers a great variety of career paths for students; and, Christin Innamarato who chose to attend
Manor College in 2011 to begin her journey toward becoming an ultrasound technician.
LITTLE ANGELS JOURNEY
For the past three years the Manor College
Ukrainian Heritage Studies Center, together with the
Ukrainian National Women’s League of America
Branch 88 and the Manorly Bead Club, have
prepared delightful, decorated Christmas trees based
on Ukrainian themes for the Pearl S. Buck House
Festival of Trees.
This year’s display, inspired by the children’s story-
“Little Angels Journey” by Dzyinka Hayda was
awarded first place. This makes the third year in a
row that the Manor College display won first prize.
The Manor contingency decorated Pearl S. Buck’s
Office. The decoration theme was about the Little
Angels Journey to earth. His journey to earth
started from the heavens and made its way down the
Rainbow Bridge. This magical story is traditionally
told in every part of the world.
The display consisted of handmade angels, the sky
and an angel holding a baby at the end of a colorful
rainbow. All of the decorations were hand made
from assorted materials according to each person’s
individual talents. Around 30 people dedicated their
time and hard work to bring this story to life.

Brendan graduated from Manor College in 2011 with an
Associate Degree in Accounting. He is now a senior at Saint

Brendan is an SAP Certified Solutions Consultant and will be
teaching the SAP component of the University’s Management
Accounting Information Systems II (SAP-enabled) course
during the Spring 2013 semester.

Department of Accounting publications:
1. “SAP STARWorld 8000 Series – An Overview of the Accounting Ledger with Integrated
Controls and Financial Reporting under U.S. GAAP & IFRS.”
2. “SAP STARGazer, 11th Edition - An Overview of the Supply Chain and International

At the conclusion of the Spring 2013 semester, Brendan will travel to Paris, France with a full-
professor of accounting (Corresponding Author) to present an academic paper at the 2013 Euro-
pean International Academic Conference.

MANOR COLLEGE AND THE CARIN O’DONNELL FAMILY TREE
Carin Philips O’Donnell studied Liberal Arts at Manor College during the mid-sixties.
She graduated in 1965, but while at Manor she married her fiancée when his draft number was
called up. For Carin’s wedding, Sr. Olga gave her a rosary blessed by his holiness the Pope.
Incidentally, Carin’s mom and Sister Olga were lifelong friends who grew up together in
Philadelphia.
Carin remembers the “warm feelings at Manor with every one helping each other. There really
was a feeling that you were part of the Manor family.” She also remembers that the Sisters of
St. Basil the Great at Manor where approachable, friendly and very willing to help each girl.
“They really got to know each of us.”

Fast forward 20 years and Carin O’Donnell is back at
Manor. Actually this Carin, class of ‘90 is Carin ‘65’s
daughter. “If I had to tell someone about Manor, I would
say that Manor offers a ‘big school’ academic curriculum
and education while at the same time giving you the
personal attention you need to get through college.”
Time may have past but the Manor College philosophy of
community and enriching student lives on. These
qualities greatly impacted both Carins. “Manor gave us
confidence.” For Carin ‘90, Manor not only gave her
confidence in her legal skills through the paralegal
program; but also “the skills you need to be confident in
business and life such as honesty, hard work and ethics.”
For Carin ‘65 “The presence of the Ukrainian culture on
the Manor campus, made me proud of my heritage.
I honestly must say that attending Manor Junior College
was the most positive time in my life.”
The Carin’s O’Donnell both recognize Manor College as a compliment of academics and the
moral foundation of ethics and professionalism which has allowed them to thrive throughout
their lives.

Andrew Buchanan is a veteran of the United States
Navy where he served for six years. After serving in
the Navy, Andrew heard about the benefits of the
Post 9/11 GI Bill and was motivated to attend college
because, the Post 9/11 GI Bill makes it virtually free.
His tuition and books are paid. He scored high marks
in the Navy and continues to do so at Manor College
earning a 4.0 GPA. “It is such a comfort to know
[my] bills are paid. It takes a lot of stress and tension
out of going back to school,” said Andrew.
What he loves about Manor College is the small
classes and that he does not have to compete for each
teacher’s time. “It’s fun to learn with the teachers at
Manor.” This Navy veteran hopes that as a Cytotech-
nologist he may research cells and find solutions that
will help fight cancer. Veterans who are interested in
attending Manor College can contact Colleen
De Norman, Assistant Director, Adult Learning
Coordinator at [email protected] or
