SONGS ARE OFTEN OPEN TO INTERPRETATION AND ARTISTS RARELY DISCUSS THE TRUE MEANING BEHIND THEM. SOMETIMES THOUGH, YOU GET LUCKY. BACK WHEN SLIPKNOT WERE PREPARING TO UNVEIL THEIR FIFTH STUDIO ALBUM - .5 THE GRAY CHAPTER – GUITARIST JIM ROOT REVEALED SOME OF THE MEANINGS BEHIND A FEW OF THEIR NEW TRACKS TO MANIACS .

XIX That’s a song that Clown wrote. It’s basically a song that he had in his head from when we were at Paul’s funeral and it’s kind of like the music that was running through his head when we were carrying Paul in his casket because the band were all his pall bearers. So he got all that feeling out in that tune and then Corey added vocals to it.

The Devil In I Obviously the video is a big metaphor for us getting rid of our old way of life and the way we were. So us killing ourselves off is the metaphor for us getting rid of our older personas. The song itself, I demo-ed and put the arrangement together for in my garage…Corey is very metaphorical in his lyrics. I can definitely correlate it to things that are happening and current events in my life and that’s one of the things that makes Corey one of the greatest vocalists on earth. The kid’s got talent!

Goodbye That fits in the ‘Gently’ [from the album IOWA] kind of world, the next two songs are songs that Corey wrote so we’ve got 3 in a row in the middle of the album that Corey brought to the table. But I love the ambience of ‘Goodbye’. That song’s pretty organic too, The bass that’s on that record is actually the bass that Corey played on the demo. We just left it because it had a kind of vibe to it.

Nomadic The tail end of ‘Goodbye’ went into ‘Nomadic’ and that’s a killer song too and another song that Corey wrote. it’s interesting to interpret the way he approaches guitar because it makes me think about guitar playing a little bit differently.

Custer We were in a little studio in Hollywood called Sound Factory before we moved into Sunset Sound and me and the drummer did a couple of different jams that lasted like an hour and when we did those jams we just grabbed bits and pieces from those jams and threw arrangements of songs together and that song was born from one of those jams.

Be Prepared For Hell From the mind of Clown! We had two studios when we were at Sunset Sound. And studio 3 was just like this open studio for anybody to go in and use their circuitry or pump organs or play percussion or just bang around on a guitar so that’s one of the songs that came from studio 3!

Headlining .5 : The Gray Chapter is out now on Roadrunner. Check out the full track by track at maniacsonline.com.au.

With forthcoming third studio album Into The Wild Life, Halestorm reach deep, with plenty of crashing rock melodies that typify their ‘modern-classic’ signature style. The band won a hard rock/metal Grammy in 2013 for Love Bites (So Do I) and new single – Apocalyptic – is just as catchy.

Says front woman extraordinaire Lzzy Hale of the album “It was literally the four of us in a circle in this church playing everything the same way we do onstage. Without making a live record, we wanted to capture the kind of chemistry and energy we have in concert.”

Rumor has it Lzzy had to apologies to her mum regarding the content on the album, it sounds pretty wild to us!

Asking Alexandria fans concerned that Danny Worsnop would be leaving will

soon see a silver lining in the form of his new band We Are Harlot and their self-titled debut.

Recorded at Steakhouse Studios in Hollywood and produced by Kato Khandwala (The Pretty Reckless) along with Worsnop, We Are Harlot showcases the bands larger than life personalities and unrelenting desire for fun. Their mission to revive Rock N Roll is evident from the get-go as Worsnop’s swagger and style attests.

What’s more, both Alternative Press and the UK’s Rock Sound named We Are Harlot to their “Most Anticipated” albums of 2015 lists, with ARTISTDirect declaring the record “…a real unbridled rock-and-f***ing-roll album…” You’ve been warned!

We Are Harlot is out March 27 on Roadrunner Records.

Marmozets : how two sets of siblings battled against the odds to fully deserve their reputation as one

of Britain’s most talked about breakthrough artists.

“We never had a Plan B.” affirms vocalist Becca MacIntyre, whose whirlwind of energy is the focal

point of the band. “We were in and out of music college, but there was never anything there for us. They pretty

much tell you that none of you will make it in the industry.”

The band’s frenetic track Move Shake Hide has already found its way onto the Triple J playlist and was produced by former Hundred Reasons guitarist Larry Hibbitt. Marmozets have plenty of attitude but are not your typical ‘heavy’ band

which is why UK media from Kerrang to Q Magazine are justifiably singing their praises.facebook.com/marmozets

The Weird And Wonderful Marmozets is out now on Roadrunner Records.

Into The Wild Life is out April 3 on Atlantic

Alice In Wonderland may seem a strange comparison for King 810’s all-pervading, absolutely no punches pulled tale of life on the streets. But the more you listen, the more it draws you in.

“It’s maybe a sub-conscious factor to tie it to, to help people understand exactly what it is.” Says Gunn in explanation of the literary reference. “You get into the artistry half way through the record. There’s a layer to it and by the third and final movement in the disk, although it’s still reality, it’s kind of abstract and purple and greenish and you’re so far down the rabbit hole that you don’t really remember where you came from. The deeper you want to go with it, you realise that there’s no coincidences and that every word every verb, every syllable, every noun, every texture is by design.”

Memoirs Of A Murderer is interspersed with spoken word pieces, that hint of Gunn’s earlier influences.

“That was the outlet, writing. Not necessarily music.” he explains of what continues to drive him. “It was always writing and telling stories. I’m just this writer that happened to know some people that played music and they suckered me into it and its 12 years now that I just can’t get back! Writing is what I always wanted to do. What I think I was supposed to do in life. I never tried to do anything else I never had any other plan or had any ambition to do anything else like any other back up plan like a job or school”

While writing has always been a personal outlet, that’s not to say that the album’s title is a literal interpretation of Gunn’s ‘life experiences’ and is more referencing that violence is a universal issue.

“I don’t want to alienate Flint or where we come from. That’s why Kill ‘Em All has stock footage from not only Flint but across the US and even the world. It’s a whole thing that’s saying this is everywhere this isn’t just some crazy thing we’re talking about. These are all real clips that really happened and it’s not just here [in Flint] and that’s kind of the point of trying to make that social commentary of holding the mirror up.”

King 810 are genuinely excited about playing in Australia for the first time as part of the Soundwave 2015 lineup.

“If in Australia people think it’s OK then in some ways, that’s more flattering than someone in Flint that knows what you’re saying because he has to be down, because he’s there.”

Memoirs Of A Murderer is out now on Roadrunner Records.

BY THE BAND’S OWN ADMISSION, KING 810 ARE NOT FOR EVERYONE. HAILING FROM FLINT MICHIGAN – AKA MURDERTOWN USA – WHILE THEIR SIGNATURE SOUND COULD BE DESCRIBED AS ‘HARSH REALITY’, THERE IS SOMETHING FAR DEEPER TO KING 810 IF YOU ARE PREPARED TO FOLLOW THEM DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE ON THEIR DEBUT MEMOIRS OF A MURDER. 14 YEARS ON, FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND ’S VEHEMENCE AND PASSION HAS NOT SUBSIDED IN THE SLIGHTEST AS EVIDENCED ON THEIR SEVENTH ALBUM. CHAPTER AND VERSE IS CLASSIC FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND, AWASH WITH MELODIC ATTITUDE SHARPENED KEENLY BY A PERSONAL POINT TO PROVE. MANIACS SPOKE WITH FRONTMAN MATTHEW DAVIES-KREYE’S.

“It was recorded in two weeks with our very good friend Lewis Johns, who has also made records with bands like Gnarwolves and Shark and a lot of emo/screamo/post hardcore bands from the UK as well as Europe.” The frontman explains comprehensively of the album “It’s a very raw album. Some of it’s very political, it’s very directed. It’s an ‘I don’t give a fuck’ kind of album and it’s fucking awesome.”

All seems simple enough : although nothing is ever as black and white as it seems when it comes to politics and music.

“Everything from social inequality, wealth inequality, capitalism, sexism, social politics. Things like social inequality are very much at the forefront of things that always fed into my lyrical content over the years. There’s also some personal stuff there, so it’s a mixed bag really. I think every record that we’ve had has touched on political aspects. Even from the very first EP, when we grew up in the hardcore scene…For me it’s a combination of all of those points over the years and maybe just getting older. Life changes.”

Although Chapter and Verse follows its bristling forbearer Conduit (from 2013) it bares more resemblance, philosophically, to some of Funeral’s earlier work.

“We were all pretty pissed off and in a negative head space.” The singer admits of the sessions surrounding Conduit. “I think there’s a lot more positivity and contentment in Chapter and Verse…I think it follows on from Conduit very nicely, but Chapter and Verse pairs itself up with Hours, our second record, really well.”

Hot on the heels of the release of Chapter And Verse was the announcement the band would be returning to Australia for a series of headlining shows to test the mettle of the new material live…. and maybe take in a few sights!

“We always try to hang out and experience things. It’s hard playing shows, you’re always travelling.” He laments. “There’s never any moment when you can go crazy and do the whole holiday, touristy thing! It’s going to sound corny, but coming back to Australia is going to be very fucking cool. We have so much fun down there that we wish we were actually an Australian band, it’s kind of sad to say. I’m looking forward to playing some killer shows.”

And no doubt Australia is ready to hear FFAF’s next ‘Chapter’ (and Verse)!

Chapter and Verse is out now on Roadrunner Records. Check out the back page for all the dates for the April tour.

PERIPHERY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN PROLIFIC. THE ‘EXTRAORDINARY GENTS OF DJENT’ PROVED WITH LAST YEAR’S CLEAR EP THAT INNOVATION FINDS SPARK IN COLLABORATION MAKING THEIR 2-ALBUM CONCEPT JUGGERNAUT: ALPHA AND JUGGERNAUT: OMEGA AS UNSTOPPABLE AS ITS TITLE SUGGESTS! MANIACS SPOKE TO GUITARIST ADAM “NOLLY” GETGOOD .

“The whole album is one overarching story.” Nolly begins slowly, conscious to allow the concept behind Juggernaut to fully unfold. “But there is a very noticeable shift in the direction of the story about half way through. In the interest of being able to develop two different artworks and two different sides of the story we thought it would be a cool idea to separate them out into two different albums. Also musically there’s such a strong shift in the storyline…it takes quite a darker turn in the second half.”

“This album is really quite new territory for us.” He continues. “We’d sit down and go through all sorts of brainstorming sessions on every aspect and everyone in the band really contributed. Every song really has quite a different vibe from anything we’ve put out in the past. It took quite a lot of practice, a lot of learning how to communicate. But we ended up with something far greater than any one of us could have written on

our own.” He offers, venturing into the dual narrative explored throughout Alpha and Omega. “Since we’ve done this we’ll probably want to go in a different direction. Just like this is kind of a reaction to the last album we put out.”

Having two albums also allows the band to expand upon the art.

“Justin Randall is an amazing graphic novelist and artist. Someone that Matt (Halpern – Drums) has been a fan of for some time – he actually has a tattoo designed by Justin on his arm. He came up with some really incredible pieces after we outlined the story to him. It’s a very dark story. There’s also a whole universe around the world in which the concept takes place, it’s something which could be expanded upon in future.”

Juggernaut: Omega features the ‘Juggerdoc’ documentary, allowing a peak behind the mystery surrounding the project, however, Periphery fans are no doubt very keen for is to see it performed live in Australia.

“That would be amazing.” Nolly suggests of returning to Australia to tour Juggernaut. “We all love touring Australia. In the second half [of 2015] it’s very possible!”

Now the Juggernaut has been unleashed, it is impossible to stop!

Juggernaut: Alpha (CD) and Juggernaut: Omega (CD/DVD) are out now on Roadrunner Records.
