Historical OverviewIqra university is a private higher education university in Pakistan with main campus located at Karachi, sindh and campuses at Islamabad, Karachi and Quetta. It was established in 1998 by the businessman hunaid h lakhani . Initially known as “Asian management institute” the institution was renamed later on the “iqra university” on the request on the then governor of sindh at the time of recognition from sindh government.

Description of MIS

A management information system (MIS) is a system or process that provides the information necessary to manage an organization effectively. MIS and the information it generates are generally considered essential components of prudent and reasonable business decisions.

MIS should be designed to achieve the following goals:

• Enhance communication among students.• Deliver complex material throughout the

institution.• Provide an objective system for recording and

aggregating information.• Reduce expenses related to labor-intensive

manual activities.• Support the organization's strategic goals and

direction.

Software InfrastructureThe following software is being used in IQRA UNIVERSITY.:

 

IU EMAIL SEREVR :for email

 

WIN XP: used by all clients machines

 

Server 2003: used by server machines

 

SOFTSOL: The software is used for multi purposes like student Attendence,online quizes,book issues and returns ,vendor reports, clearance and blocked forms.

 

Virtual learning environment: this software is used for online quizzes' and assignments and online study chatting

Iqra university learning management system: this software provides students variety of services like online attendence checking , online lectures, online application etc

Security Policy or Plan

Information security means protecting information and information systems from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, perusal, inspection, recording or destruction.

1. Outer wall or first line defense: fire walls2. Second line of defense, access to network 3. Third line of defense: Applications: Specify

acceptable applications on network.4. Fourth line of defense: review usage reports,

and document reviews for unusual and improper access.

Change Management

University must modify itself not just from time to time but all of the time. Change management helps organizations in increasing its ability to solve its problems, improving systems of work and achieving effectiveness and competitive advantage.

IQRA University has migrating into IULMS (T24) University software for improve work quality and organizational performance . Enable the student to solve their problems and affairs and get positive response shortly.

Structure of Data Base Management System

A database management system is a suite of software applications that together make it possible for students or education to store, modify, and extract information from a database.

Iqra university has currently working on decentralized database management system in which branches have own server for data storage except those branches who have migrated to T24 software.

Suggestion for Improvement

Network Infrastructure• As we know that Institution like IQRA university has

high integration and customization among the student throughout the degree program. University is providing its student the facility though which they have access to SOFTSOL.

• We think University should move its networking on satellite by which data accessibility become quick and network become fast.

Hardware infrastructure• University should move from Pentium 5 to latest

computer technologies. It should use fastest RAM and maximum space hard disk.
