Everyone gets homework, it’s a fact of life!Unfortunately, no matter how we try to avoid

doing the homework, assignments and study, we will have to get around to it in the end.

So how do we manage our time so that we can get all this done, and still have time to do the things we actually want to do?

It’s simple...

Page 3: Managing Your Workload

Doing a Study Plan...• The most important part of managing your

workload is organising your time well. You can’t go through school leaving all your homework until midnight, every night! It’s just not sustainable!• A study plan helps you sort out when you will

do certain activities so that you get everything done, and still get to sleep!

Page 4: Managing Your Workload

What a Study Plan Includes...• When you have “other” activities – sport,

bands, clubs – anything that you do outside of school. These are marked on there so that you can see exactly how much time you have to do your homework, and when.

• Time for breaks – things like dinner time, afternoon tea, and when you watch your favourite TV show.

Stick to Your Plan!!

• There is no point making a study plan if you don’t actually follow it! Make sure you stick to your plan!!

Page 7: Managing Your Workload

Don’t Over-Do It!

• Your brain is not designed to work all day, every day. You must take breaks. It is really important to have time off your work to allow your brain to take everything in, and relax. It is like exercise – you can’t go all day, you need to take breaks as well!

Page 8: Managing Your Workload

Speaking of Exercise...• Exercise is really good for you. Yes, we all know

that! But how does it help you manage your time and study?

• Easy! Exercise gets your blood pumping around your body, and blood is what takes oxygen to your brain. The more oxygen it has, the better your brain can work. Exercise also relieves stress.

• So, exercise is a great thing to put in your study plan, and will keep you working more effectively!

Prioritising

• To prioritise, you basically make a list of the things you need to do. Order them with the most important and urgent at the top, and the least important on the bottom.

• Don’t just do your favourites first, do the one that is due the soonest.

Having FunHaving Fun• It may seem obvious to you that you should have fun,

but there are many people who believe that if the work constantly with no breaks, they will do well at school.

• Not true!• Okay, maybe they will get good marks, but your brain

(like we said before) needs breaks. It is actually proven that if you work hard with a few breaks in the middle, you will learn better than if you went flat out, hard core, non-stop. Do yourself (and your brain) a favour.

• Every now and then, take about fifteen minutes to get something to eat, spend some time with your family, or just go for a walk! It’s not hard to have a bit of fun, so why deprive yourself?

Does Managing My Time Really Make Does Managing My Time Really Make a Difference?a Difference?

• YES!• Managing your time well can be the difference

between passing or failing a subject. If you can’t manage your time, you won’t be able to finish your assignments and homework in time. You also need to be organised so that you will be able to participate in extra-curricular activities without disrupting your study.

Page 12: Managing Your Workload

So Where to From Here?So Where to From Here?• Here is a summary of the main things you will

need to do to manage your time better:Do a study plan for when you will do homework,

assignments, and other activities. Incorporate regular exercise into your life so that

your brain can function at its optimum level. Each day (and week), prioritise what need to be

done in order of most important to least important.

Don’t forget to have fun!
