Managing Multiple Authors

First  tip-‐  Create  a  private/  internal  team  blog

Why?

• You  want  your  team  to  feel  like  they  are  actually  a  team  and  giving  them  a  place  to  come  together  and  collaborate  is  a  great  way  to  do  that.

User  Roles  and  Capabilities

It  is  important  to  make  sure  your  authors  are  aware  of  their  roles  and  what  they  are  or  aren’t  allowed  to  do

Managing Multiple Authors

What  if  I  have  multiple  authors  for  a  single  post?

Well,  there’s  a  plugin  for  that....

Time  for  the  heavy  duty  tools...

• Editorial  Calendar

• The  editorial  calendar  gives  you  an  overview  of  your  blog  and  when  each  post  will  be  published.

• Great  for  single  author    blogs  (told  you  there  would  be  something  in  here  for  you  single  authors).

And  then  there  is  Edit  Flow....

IMO,  this  is  the  benchmark  for  editorial  workAlow  in  WordPress.

Built  by  local  Automattician  Mo  Jangda  as  well  as  others.

Edit  Flow  Highlights

You  can  create  custom  statuses  for  you  own  particular  workAlow

Out  of  the  box,  WP  only  offers  ‘Draft’  and  ‘Pending  Review’,  which  might  not  address  everything  ..Edit  Flow  adds  ‘In  Progress’,  ‘Pitch’,  ‘Waiting  for  Edit’

You  can  create  your  own  Custom  Statuses  just  like  you  were  adding  a  new  Category.

Managing Multiple Authors

Overall,  a  very  powerful  tool  for  managing  multiple  authors  and  creating  a  workAlow...but  there  is  something  missing  still  from  this  process

Managing Multiple Authors

You  need  a  style  guide....

How  do  I  make  sure  everyone  is  following  my  format?  Using  consistent  terminology?Using  the  right  fonts?

This  is  WordPress,  so  there  must  be  a  plugin  for  that  right?

Monday, 1 July, 13

Page 27: Managing Multiple Authors with WordPress

Managing Multiple Authors

WRONG....THERE  IS  NO  STYLE  GUIDE  PLUGIN.....

Page 31: Managing Multiple Authors with WordPress

Managing Multiple AuthorsLets  take  a  plugin  called  WP  Help  ,  six  rubber  bands  and  an  empty  coke  can  and  turn  it  into  something  we  can  use  as  a  style  guide.

(Actually,  we  just  need  to  use  the  plugin  and  change  it’s  purpose  to  suit  our  needs,  but  the  rest  just  sounded  cool)

Managing Multiple AuthorsWhen  we  install  WP  Help  we  see  this:

But  lets  change  it  to  this:
