The Fibre Channel module provides the necessary tools to effi-
ciently install, maintain, and troubleshoot Fibre Channel, ESCONand FICON services.

This module can use the following plug-in optical transceivers: SA584-850 850 nm SFP optical transceiver type LC.
SA584-1310 1310 nm SFP optical transceiver type LC. SA580-ESCON, 1310 nm ESCON SFP optical transceiver
type LC.
CAUTION: Use of non Sunrise Telecom optical transceiversmay result in incompatibility in digital diagnostics, which includeoptical power measurement.
To insert a transceiver:1. Align the transceiver label side with the label side of module.
2. Insert the transceiver into the port. There will be a clickingsound when the transceiver is properly seated.3. When ready to connect, remove any protective caps on the
interface end of the transceiver.
To remove a transceiver:1. Install the protective cap on the interface end of the trans-
ceiver.2. Grip the outer edge of the transceiver and pull it away from
the module.
The recommended cables are shown in Table 1.

PORT 1This standard port is used for Point-to-Point applications. As in-dicated in Figure 1, it has transmit and receive capabilities. Thetwo LEDs to its right are associated with this port.
PORT 2This optional port is used for monitoring applications. As indicatedin Figure 1, it has transmit and receive capabilities. The two LEDsto its left are associated with this port.
Note: Monitoring is only available for Fibre Channel mode.
Port LEDs LINK: Indicates the status of the line.
- Green, the link is up.- Off, the link is down from a loss of signal or a loss of syn-
chronization.
ACT: Indicates activity on the line.
- Blinking green as trafc is received by the port.
- Off when there is no traffic.

Green: The test set is in module mode.
SIGNALIndicates the status of PORT 1.
Green: Optical power is detected on PORT 1. Red: Optical power is not detected on PORT 1.
FRAMEIndicates the status of PORT 1.
Green: Synchronization is acquired on PORT 1.
Red: Synchronization is not acquired on PORT 1.
ERRORSActive whenever the test set is performing a BERT.
Red: Currently detecting 8B/10B symbol, disparity, or CRCerrors.
Blinking Red: Previously detected an error, but it is no longerpresent. Press HISTORY to clear the LED.
Note: CRC (FC-1/FC-2/ESCON) errors will be detected only whenrunning a framed BER test.
PAT SYNCThis is active whenever the test set is performing a BER test witha known test pattern.
Green: Pattern synchronization has been achieved
Red: Pattern synchronization has been lost, or pattern syn-
chronization cannot be achieved. Blinking Red: Previously lost pattern synchronization, but it
has been regained. Press HISTORY to clear the LED.

FC-1: BERT bit sequence (test pattern 0000, in Figure 7;FC-1 Framing) will be embedded into the fibre channel fram-ing. Between frames the link will be lled with idle primitivesequences.

S_ID: Source Identifier is 3 bytes long. It indicates the sourceport address.
TYPE: Data Type header is 1 byte long. It indicates the type of
data contained within the frame payload.F_CTL: Frame Control header is 3 bytes long. It includes informa-tion about frame content.
SEQ_ID: Sequence Identier is 1 byte long. It indicates the se-quence to which the frame belongs.
SEQ CNT: Sequence Count is 2 bytes long. It indicates the countof individual frames within a sequence.
OX_ID: Originator Identifier is 2 bytes long. It indicates the ex-change identifier assigned by the originator of the exchange.
RX_ID: Responder Identifier is 2 bytes long. It indicates the ex-change identifier assigned by the responder of the exchange.
PARAMETER: Indicates the relative offset of the first byte ofthe data field from a base address specified by the upper layerprotocol.
Note: The eld reserved (1 Byte) and DF_CTL (1 Byte) will takethe values 00 (Hex) and cant be edited.

To select a pattern, use , , , to navigate to the desired pat-tern and press ENTER. The selected pattern is then displayedon the TEST PATTERN line shown in Figure 6.
The following describes the available test patterns:
USER: If selected, enter a custom test pattern in hexadecimalformat; the length of the user-dened 4 byte test pattern.
To enter a custom pattern:
1. Press SELECT (F1). The cursor will move to the pattern line.2. Press SHIFT and use the numeric and letter keys to enter a

HI-FREQ: This pattern has a high transition of ones and zeros.It is generated by repeating the D21.5 sequence (composed ofalternating D21.5+ and D21.5-); it contains the 1010101010-bitsequence. A repeating D21.5 pattern has the highest transitiondensity; these characteristics make this pattern useful for testingrandom jitter and asymmetry of transition times.
LO-FREQ: This pattern has a low transition of ones and zeros. It isgenerated by repeating the K28.7 sequence (composed of alternat-ing K28.7+ and K28.7-); it contains the 0011111000 1100000111-
bit sequence. A repeating K28.7 pattern has the lowest transitiondensity; these characteristics make this pattern useful for testing
low frequency random jitter and PLL tracking error.
MIX-FREQ: This pattern has a low transition of ones and zerosmixed with a high transition of ones and zeros. It is generated byrepeating the K28.5 sequence (composed of alternating K28.5+and K28.5-); it contains the 00111110101100000101-bit se-quence. A repeating K28.5 pattern has a 50% transition densityand a 50% mark density; these characteristics make this patternuseful for testing deterministic jitter.
1111: Industry-standard all ones pattern.
1010: Industry-standard alternating ones and zeros pattern.
0000: Industry-standard all zeros pattern.
CJTPAT: Compliant Jitter Tolerance Pattern is for jitter measure-ments. It is intended to expose a receivers CDR (Clock and Data
Recovery circuit) to large instantaneous phase jumps. The patternalternates repeating low transition density patterns with repeatinghigh transition density patterns.
CRPAT: Compliant Random Test Pattern is intended to provide
broad spectral content and minimal peaking that can be used forthe measurement of jitter at either a component or system level.
CSPAT: Compliant Supply Noise Pattern creates the worst casepower supply noise introduced by the transceiver. This noise iscaused by the switching output of the power supply.

FRAME LENGTH (only in FC-1/FC-2 Testing)Choose a value by pressing SHIFT and using the numeric keypad.
The range of frame length is from 24 to 2140 bytes with steps of4 bytes. The default value is 28.
Notes: If CRPAT, CJTPAT, or CSPAT test patterns are selected, the frame
length is fixed to the length defined in the specifications:- CRPAT frame length = SOF (Start Of Frame) +196 bytes

TRAFFIC SHAPINGOptions: CONST (F1), RAMP (F2), BURST (F3), EDIT (F4)
Traffic Shaping is available in FC-1/FC-2 and ESCON Testing.
CONST: Constant trafc means that the trafc is transmitted
at a constant rate (from 0100% Bandwidth) for the entireduration of the test. A bandwidth of 100% corresponds to an
interframe gap of 6 idle sequences.
RAMP: The trafc is transmitted at a variable rate from a START
BANDWIDTH (between 0100%) to a STOP BANDWIDTH(between 0100%), with increments of STEP (between1100%). The ramp is repeated for the duration of the test.
BURST: The trafc is transmitted at a variable rate. The trafc
will be transmitted at BANDWIDTH #1 rate (from 0100%)for DURATION #1 seconds, then at BANDWIDTH #2 rate(from 0100%) for DURATION #2 seconds. This sequenceis repeated for the duration of the test.
EDIT: Access the parameters for CONST, RAMP, and BURST
as shown in Figures 9, 10, and 11.
Note: To enter a number in all Traffic Shaping screens, pressSHIFT and use the numeric keypad.

2.2.1.1 Fibre Channel BERT Throughput Measurements
The screens presented in BERT/THROUGHPUT MEASURE-MENTS depend on the type of TEST selected in BERT CON-
FIGURATION. The following are common to all measurementscreens:
Use to view all screens; the scroll bar at the right in thescreen indicates the screen.
P1: Port 1 LINK ACTIVE or OFF LINE.- LINK ACTIVE indicates that the synchronization process
has been successfully completed.- OFF LINE indicates that the synchronization process was
not successfully completed. In this case the test set is notready to transmit and receive data.
ET: Elapsed Time of the test.
ST: Start Time of the test.
RT: Remaining test time, or CONTINUE for a continuoustest.
BERT Result F-keysCRC/BIT (F2): Change the type of error injected without goingto the MEASUREMENTS SETUP screen, while the test is run-ning.
To inject an error, press ERR INJ. See Section 2.5 for details. Notethat this F-key is not available for an unframed test.
STOP (F3): Stop the test, and the following F-keys are available:
PRINT (F1): Send all measurement screens to the serial portfor printing. Refer to Section 2.6 and your test sets usersmanual for further information.
STORE (F2): Store of all measurement screens. Refer to Sec-tion 2.6for further information.
START (F3): Restarts the test and resets ET and RT.
TXON/TXOFF (F4): Toggle the transmitter on or off. When offframes are not sent, idle code is sent in its place. This F-key isnot available for an unframed test.

PORT 1: View a summary of the status of the test. It can be:
NO ERRORS: Test is successful.
SIGNAL LOSS: No signal detected on Port 1; the LOS andLOSS counters are incrementing.
SYNC LOSS: No synchronization on Port 1; the LOSYNCand LOSYS counters are incrementing.
PAT LOSS: Pattern synchronization has not been acquired,or it was lost. Loss of pattern is detected when the BER isgreater than or equal to 0.2 over a 1 second period.

The STATUS screen reports the following for both layers:
TEST: Type of TEST configured in BERT CONFIGURATION.
PORT 1: View a summary of the status of the test. It can be:
NO ERRORS: Test is successful.
SIGNAL LOSS: No signal detected on Port 1. The LOS andLOSS counters are incrementing.
SYNC LOSS: No synchronization on Port 1. The LOSYNCand LOSYS counters are incrementing.
PAT LOSS: Pattern synchronization has not been acquiredor it was lost. Loss of pattern is detected when the BER isgreater than or equal to 0.2 over a 1 second period.

NO RRDY: No Receive Ready. This only applies when Link-Initialization is enabled. It does not apply to ESCON. This errorinjection will stop the transmission of R_RDY primitives (apply
back pressure). During the BERT, if ERR INJ is pressed, the test set will stop
the R_RDY transmission and will display INJ indicating thatthe test set is currently injecting a NO RRDY error. When ERRINJ is pressed again, INJ is no longer displayed and the testset will release the R_RDY (release back pressure).
The count/rate will display N/A when NO RRDY is selected.

Configure the following as required by pressing SHIFT and usingthe character keypad to enter numbers and hex characters:
S-WWN: This is a unique World Wide Name for the device (testset) connected to the Fibre Channel switch. It is recommendedto use the default in the login screen, or input an address thatbegins with: 10 00 00 D0 DD xx xx xx.
D_WWN: This is the same as S-WWN, but for the far end devicethat will be connected.
Each device in the SAN (Storage Area Network) is identied by aunique hex 64 bit WWN (World Wide Name). The WWN containsa Company ID field, which is defined and maintained by the IEEE,and a vendor info field.
Currently, there are two formats of the WWN as defined by the
IEEE. The original format contains either a hex 10 or hex 20 inthe first two bytes of the address. This is then followed by theCompany ID information.
The new addressing scheme starts with a hex 5 or 6 in the firsthalf-byte, followed by the company ID in the next 3 bytes. Thevendor info is then contained in the remaining bytes.

Loopback is only available for PORT 1. The trafc loopback featureprovides a manual mode or a controller/responder mode.
In MANUAL mode, press START (F4) to load the loopback soft-ware to begin looping incoming trafc. During this process the link
will be closed. It will reopen at the end of the download.In CONTROL mode, the test set will be responsible for sendingloop up and loop down commands to a remote test set configuredas a responder.
In RESPOND mode, press START (F4), and the test set will scanincoming traffic for a loop up command. As soon as loop up com-mand is received, the test set will switch to loopback mode and itwill loop back all incoming trafc on PORT 1. The incoming trafcwill be looped as follows:
If FC-1 loop up code is received, the test set will retransmitthe incoming frames without modifying them.
If FC-2 loop up code is received, the test set will retransmitthe incoming frames and swap the source and destination
identifiers.The responder will remain in loopback mode until it receives aloop down frame.Note: Use caution when using loopback mode because networkequipment may not allow the loopback of unicast frames.

2.9 Profiles
Use the Profile function to store commonly used module con-figuration settings.
The PROFILE LIST screen contains a DEFAULT profile. Thisprofile is based on the factory standard configuration of thismodule.
To create other profiles, change the configuration settings in anyavailable screens. Once all configuration screens are changedas desired, select PROFILES from the modules main menu andselect a blank entry. Press STORE (F2) and the settings are savedwith a generic filename. Use this screen to manage profiles. Thescreen and its functions are as follows:
