Cosmetic Facial Acupuncture & Pampering
Seen it on the TV? Heard about it in the Press?
Revolving around an Holistic approach to beauty & wellbeing
Acupuncturist, Reflexologist, Former Nurse & Midwife, Jennie Sheringham now offers an Acupuncture ‘Facelift’ treatment and Pamper session. Focusing on key Acupuncture points & using the Organic skincare products “EllaPure”, Jennie commences the consultation by taking notes on your overall condition and anything problematic to you, she then feels your pulse which will give her a good indication of your overall health & wellbeing. Jennie will offer you acupuncture needles in other parts of your body or a mini reflexology treatment while the facial needles are working to encourage a good energy flow around the body & ensure maximum overall benefits. WHAT IS COSMETIC FACIAL ACUPUNCTURE? Encouraging facial muscles to relax, facial acupuncture promotes healing through skin rejuvenation & by stimulating collagen production therefore encouraging the process of anti-ageing. Blood circulation is improved by unblocking stagnated energy in the channels and this helps the body to remove toxins and leave skin looking glowing, healthy & radiant. “The ageing process will happen, I can’t stop that” says Jennie “but a combination of Acupuncture, good diet and an improved feeling of wellbeing, fine lines & wrinkles, the tell-tale signs of ageing will slow down & the skin will have a healthy glow.” THE TREATMENT After assessing what treatment you need Jennie will insert needles into your arms or legs to encourage flow & balance. She will then cleanse & prepare your face for the insertion of very fine needles in specific points on the face, you may feel a sensation but should not be in pain (remember this is a pamper session !!) after 20 mins the needles are removed, facial rollers & facial moxa warmer follows and the treatment comes to an end with a wonderful facial massage leaving you energized but relaxed. Following a first treatment a Worcs news reporter printed the following statement “As well as a completely indulgent and relaxing experience I left feeling fully energized & ready to face the rest of the day. My skin felt wonderfully smooth, my cheeks felt plumped up & there was a definite reduction in the fine lines and wrinkles, particularly the creases between my eyebrows. Although a course of treatments is recommended I was surprised with just how effective one session proved to be”

In this article we are focussing on how investing as individuals in a community energy scheme can be good for the planet and provide us with an ethical investment that benefits local people and organisations. First let’s draw the big picture contrast between what happens now to our power supplies to what we are proposing. Currently almost all our energy comes from fossil fuels, mined from all round the globe and transported to the big six suppliers who set fire to it and some (approx 50%) becomes electricity delivered to your house. We use lots of money to buy it from them (costs have risen at over twice inflation for at least the last 10 years) and we waste most of the energy because our homes and appliances are built for the past cheap energy era. (Much of the money we pay leaves the UK to buy for the fossil fuels and creates a worsening balance of payments situation, now North Sea oil and gas are rapidly declining). If we have any money left we might decide to invest it usually with people in organisations we have never met and don’t trust (the banks come to mind). They invest it all over the planet in things we don’t believe in or care about and they give us a 3% return, maybe. Our suggested alternative is that we get the energy from the weather, the sun, the river weirs and the waves (renewable resources). We create a local co-op to generate electricity with the renewable resources available locally, individuals in our community invest with the co-op they own and they get a return that is better than the 3%. With this approach we are reducing our carbon footprint, supporting the local economy, engaging people with renewables, this has a cross community appeal and it is a stable and proven model. There are now several examples in the UK and a very large number of community schemes in the rest of Europe.

Transition Malvern Hills – Starting a Malvern Energy Generation
In our 3 previous articles we have written about
the parallels between Transition Towns philosophy and those underlying the complementary health disciplines, the need for an “Inner consciousness shift” to happen alongside the “outer practical changes” that are necessary in the way we use resources and in the last issue the schemes we have to help people reduce their personal Carbon footprint in their transport.

TRAT

Transition Malvern Hills believes we can do this locally and we applied for an were given a small support grant (from the Co-op Hub) to allow us to commission the Sharenergy Co-op to help us get started (they have experience of doing this for many community energy co-ops UK wide, locally in Leomister PV, Woolhope Biomass boilers and wood supply and Neen Sollars Community Hydro). We have a team of 8 volunteers wanting to make this work. We have now given 3 public talks on our plans, submitted all the papers for the setting up a co-op (called Malvern Community Energy) , getting FCA registration, applied for a bank account and have found the first large roof and commenced discussions with the landlord to get the legal matters sorted out.
Co-op - Your Chance of a Local Community Based, Ethical Investment
We have chosen the Malvern Cube as our first building because that has tremendous social value (by reducing the Cube’s electricity bills) as well as being capable of delivering a modest return to our members/community investors. The Cube is the youth and community centre that we helped to save from demolition and have been helping to run and develop for the last year. We are also working on the Share Issue Offer Document and started collected details of local people interested in investing so we can keep them up to date.
We have also started looking for more large roofs that meet the key criteria of them being likely to stay in secure ownership for 20 years, have a high electrical load in the day time spread across the year, are Southish facing with no shading, has a sizeable grid connection and are large enough to take ideally a 50kW PV array (about 200 panels the larger the array the better the return). Have we got you interested or even excited about this new and very important venture, if yes please contact us (until the website is up and running contact…
Robin Coates 01684 540284 or [email protected]) and /or come to the next public meeting at the Cube on 2nd Dec at 7.30pm.

What is Core Process Psychotherapy?
Core Process Psychotherapy is a
combination of Buddhist psychology and mindfulness-based psychotherapy. It is one of the original mindfulness-based psychotherapy training programmes and was established at the Karuna Institute in Devon in 1982. Maura Sills is the founder of Core Process Psychotherapy and together with Franklyn Sills she has developed the Core Process Psychotherapy approach for application in various clinical contexts. Teachings drawn from different Buddhist sources and lineages create a broad vehicle for the psychotherapy training which is integrated with western personality theory, psychodynamics and psychotherapy skills. Students develop the ability to deepen into a state of presence and learn to bring this state of awareness into relationship. Presence-in-relationship then becomes the ground of enquiry into the client’s arising process. In Core Process work both therapist and client are engaged in a joint healing process where an awareness of the body, its feelings and feeling tones, and the content and states of mind that arise, are used to explore the nature of selfhood and suffering. The therapist's essential role is that of reflector and facilitator of awareness. The heart of Core Process work is oriented to the belief that true healing is only possible to the extent that we can be fully present to the immediacy of our inner and outer experience.
it is not about becoming a Buddhist and people from all spiritual traditions or none are equally welcome. Janne Tooby is a senior student studying Core Process Psychoherapy and is now ready to begin seeing clients. She has a background in the NHS working as a nurse, a midwife and a senior health promotion officer. She has also run a successful private massage and craniosacral therapy practice. She will be offering sessions in Bransford abut 3 miles from both Malvern and Worcester on the Hereford Road, with easy access from Junction 7 of the M5 motorway. Please call Janne on 079 697 38132 or
email her with your telephone number and she will get back to you :
If you are interested in more information about Janne’s MA
training at The Karuna Institute see http://www.karuna-institute.co.uk/.
Although the principles and fundamental practices underpinning the Psychotherapy come from Buddhism,

“A Quote from the Soil Association”

The Astrological Climate –Anyone for Cake?

As we move into winter and nature settles down to rest, we are doing anything but sleep.
The challenge of the Pluto/Uranus square, mid-way in its cycle, is impelling us into a period of dynamic change which continues into New Year. Is there any let up? Well, as Mahatma Gandhi said ‘ Be the change you want to see in the world’. This is the learning.
Change usually indicates challenge and potential discomfort. It’s the edge on which we grow. To quote the original evolutionary, Charles Darwin: ‘It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent. It is the one that is most adaptable to change.’ Everything around us, from our relationships to the environment, including the planets, is reflecting this necessity to evolve. The season of ‘good will to all men’ will soon be upon us. It’s going to be an interesting experiment. Having a predictable Xmas? It might be good to take another look. On Xmas day, Mars, named after Ares, the Roman god of war, ruling our passions, drives and willpower, is intensifying the ongoing Uranus/Pluto opposition. This is no easy aspect, signalling conflict, disruptions, even violent uprising. Interestingly Mars also rules new beginnings. (Consider the dynamic energy of spring’s uprising.) This indicates our choice: resist or deny the change we know we need to make or recognise the only certainty IS change? Undoubtedly true, but not so easy to live perhaps? With Chiron in this dynamic mix we can be certain our unintegrated past will be revealing itself. Faced with difference, disagreement and potentially conflict, the main theme will be: response or reaction? In this volatile cluster of aspects it’s the feminine figures in the chart that bring balance and potential resolution.
steadies and contains the explosive dynamics. Pallas Athena trine Pluto contributes discernment: to understand how the nuances of daily life create the bigger picture. For example: Does the endeavor to keep ignoring those little irritations really work? Pallas brings the perceptive capacity to see both the small and big picture, and take practical steps for integration of conflicting perspectives. Key awareness: Your own motivations. Be honest. Avoid projection or blaming. Key questions: Am I going through the motions of Xmas to please others or because everyone else is? What do I really want? Key actions: Bring originality to the way you relate and everything you do, particularly your Xmas social/family activities. Over this period, if life becomes just too much, consider this simple analogy. To bake a cake the ingredients must be mixed, transformed and cooked. The result is delicious. This winter we’re definitely cooking. Best enjoy it! Christmas cake anyone? Cassandra Eve is an astrologer and creative

Transition Malvern Hills
The connectedness here would be both in ourselves and between us as communities and the limits would be those and future generations.
I was delighted to be asked by Teena to write a few words
about Transition Malvern Hills (TMH). I am aware that the ways of viewing our Health Holistically, as an intrinsically connected system of Mind, Body, Emotional and Spiritual being, consciously living within appropriate limits to avoid self abuse and the abuse of others is the same basic philosophy that we are also wanting to achieve at the level of Gaia.
that allow the planet to sustain us
An area that could be Fracked! “Bad news, you live in an area that could
get fracked,” is splashed across my screen. I’ve
put my Alfrick postcode into the search box
proffered by Greenpeace’s anti-fracking
campaign at www.wrongmove.org.
Apparently the Malverns have shale gas
potential. Should I be concerned?
The British Geological Society has mapped large
areas of countryside in the North West, the
Midlands and the South East as having an organic-
rich shale rock formation that has natural gas held in
it. The only way to get the gas out of the solid rock
is to drill down deep underground using a process
called hydraulic fracturing, fracking for short.
The controversial technique, which involves injecting, at high pressure, a mixture of water,
sand and chemicals into the earth to release shale gas, was banned in the UK in 2011 and
2012 but now it’s well and truly back on the agenda with the government considering tax
incentives and offering communities financial benefits if they choose to explore for natural
gas in their backyards.
Natural gas production by fracking is rife in the US. Advocates say it is safe for people and
the environment, and reduces reliance on imported gas, thus boosting energy security. But
critics argue fracking involves an unacceptable level of water usage, contaminates water
supplies and spills potentially toxic waste into the environment.
Whatever the threat to the environment and health, the fracking debate does throw up
questions we can’t ignore - like, how best to meet our collective energy demands. We all use
electricity, we want to travel by car or go on holiday by plane. Where do we think all the
energy comes from? If it’s not in our back yards but in a faraway distant land, is that OK?
What if we have to make some sacrifices to meet our energy needs?
To enquire into this, there’s a Conversation Cafe on Fracking (For Frack’s Sake) at The Fold,
Bransford on Wednesday 20th November.
We'll have help to look at the known facts and then experienced conversation cafe host
Trish Dickinson will guide us through a series of themed rounds of enquiry in which we're
not focussing on who's right and who's wrong but allowing the facts to be considered.
In listening respectfully to each other we move from vision to action. £3 entry at 7pm. £9
entry includes light supper served at 6.30pm. Booking essential for supper.

Worcestershire Animal Rescue Shelter
Ways in which people can help are, direct donations at the shelter or online via the website, www.wars.org.uk just giving page, sponsored activities such as walks, treks, marathons etc, sponsoring a kennel or cat pod (an ideal present for any animal lover) and leaving a legacy donation, these just some of the ways. We are regularly full to capacity with a mix of stray’s brought in by the dog warden and people looking to rehome their pets. Some of the main reasons people have for rehoming dogs are :
• Too big, can’t cope
• Too lively, can’t cope
• Can’t afford them
• Dog has shown aggression to people
• Can’t find rented accommodation
that will allow dogs
• Dog has become destructive
• Dog is fighting with other dogs in
the household
• Owners work long hours, not
enough time for the dog
This shows before taking on a pet you should give it a lot of thought, talk to people who have pets, be realistic about how much free time you have to exercise and socialise with your pets.
www.wars.org.uk Tel: 01905 831651
We believe a responsible pet owner ensures that all their pets are:-
Fed an appropriate diet
Provided with safe, clean and
comfortable accommodation
Covered by relevant pet insurance
Implanted with a microchip that is
registered to the current owner and
details are kept up to date
Given any necessary veterinary
treatment and preventative
treatments are kept up to date
Given the appropriate amount of
exercise and stimulation to keep their
mind and body healthy
Before getting a pet a responsible owner takes the time to research how much money and time will be required to ensure all the above criteria are met.

The shelter open in 2001, and sits in 5
acres of land in Newlands, Nr Malvern (just off the A449.
The shelter has 27 kennels, 12 cat pens and 2 all-weather play pens where the dogs can be exercised. The shelter as a small team of employed staff but also has an army of volunteers not only providing financial support but also helping walk the dogs, and socialize with the cats. Being an independent charity we rely heavily on public support and donations to keep operating, which in the current economic climate isn’t always that easy.
So, now you have some good grounded Knowledge preparing for your pet.
Here comes the fun part… selecting your pet. He or she will greet you with unconditional love and years of pleasure all in exchange for long healthy walks in nature.

Finding Strength– Inspiration in Challenging Times
The penultimate stations is ‘Seeing with New Eyes’ where we get a clearer perspective on some of the changes going on in world views. This includes gaining an understanding of systems theory and exercises where participants discover new personal power and purpose to play a part in bringing about a more desirable future. Finally in ‘Going Forth’ we take what has been learnt and consider plans for change we want to make in our lives. The workshops are principally participatory with explanations and introductions by the workshop leaders who having created a safe space, guide participants simply and carefully through the process. At the recent workshop at The Fold one highlight was holding a session in a beautiful wooded glade by the River Teme. The sixteen participants provided a rich mix of input and offered generous feedback on the day, including: “This has been the best day of my life” “It was an amazing day and so great to get together and not feel alone in some of the things we are going through and being faced with in our lives”’ Will and Kirsti are looking forward to their next one-day workshop on 1
st February 2014
and would like to run two and three day sessions for people who want to get deeper into this profound and powerful work.
[email protected] 01886 833422
A Finding Strength workshop was held on
September 28th
at the Fold Bransford, facilitated by Kirsti Norris and Will Tooby. Based on the inspiring empowerment approach developed by Joanna Macy,
sometimes know as the Work That Reconnects, this work provides an opportunity for people to stop and reflect about their place in responding to the challenges we face in the world today.
They go on to find inner strength and inspiration, despite the enormity of the problems. It offers a safe space for people to reconnect with themselves, each other, and the wider web of life. Based on a spiral of four stations the work starts with gratitude and remembering what we truly love about the world and experience how this is a liberating antidote to consumerism. This resourcing part of the workshop is essential for the next part of the journey where we honour our pain for the world. Sometimes called despair work and clearly counter cultural in a world where we are encouraged to keep our fears and concerns to ourselves, participants voice and hear from others how they truly feel about the challenges we face in the world today. This helps us realise our sense of passion that is held behind our concerns.

Stir Up November!
You don’t need to wait until 24th
November to start
your baking preparations for Christmas. Stir up Sunday, the last Sunday before advent, is traditionally the day to make your Christmas pudding,
Think also about the visitors you will have over Christmas; do they have any special dietary requirements? By planning in advance you can have tasty baked good for everyone. For example if you choose vegetarian suet, it works as well in puddings and mincemeat as traditional beef suet, but can be enjoyed by all. These days there are plenty of great substitute foods for those who need them.
Dove’s Farm make a wonderful gluten free, wheat free flour blend, which is really versatile and works in a variety of recipes. Xylitol is granular and makes a great sugar substitute for many baked goods. Sadly even at Christmas there are those who will need to avoid alcohol, but with planning they can be provided for. You can even make alcohol free mincemeat using a rich fruit juice such as pomegranate or cranberry in place of brandy, but you will need to add extra sugar to the recipe and keep the resulting mincemeat in the fridge for up to 10 days or freeze it until it is used.
Handley Organics stock a wide range of organic dried goods, spices, fine chocolate and ingredients for those with special diets. It is a great place for buying the things that you need for Christmas baking and browsing for the things that you don’t, but would like to buy anyway, such as our new figs in syrup and new season pressed juices! If your shopping basket proves too heavy with all the flours and dried fruits, why not ask about our delivery service.*
Save! Don’t forget to bring your loyalty card, to add on all your Christmas baking
purchases. For every £100 you spend, you can earn £5 off your next purchase*, which can be spent here or in our sister shop in Ledbury, The Apothecary Shop. And if you don’t have a loyalty card, don’t forget to ask for one next time you shop with us. It’s effectively a 5% cashback.
but the earlier you start the more time the pudding and also the mincemeat and Christmas cake have to mature and develop their rich fruity flavours.
Now is also a good time to stock up on dried goods. If you make a list of all the Christmas Food you will be preparing in advance and add up all the combined weights of say, raisins, you will be able to buy the largest pack size and save money. You won’t be overstocking or risk running out half way through a baking session.
16

Preparing now will give you time to choose the best recipes and acquire any less common ingredients such as dried mulberries or browse for those extra specials such as Willie’s Madagascan Black 100% Sambirano Cacoa for making chocolate treats.

What
Mandi Helps Busy Professionals Adopt Winning Habits for a Healthier Work/Life Balance.
Wellness Counts .......towards your healthier, happier life
Feeling fit, well and energetic is something we all aspire to, but so often we lack the
motivation to do what we need to in order to achieve this. It’s all too easy to find excuses not to look after ourselves properly but often it’s simply a case of not knowing what to do for the best, based on our own specific needs – and in having the tools and information to fulfil those needs in a simple way. This is where Wellness Counts Limited can help you. It’s an award winning online Wellbeing Plan which allows you to discover which aspects of your health and well-being are priorities for you to work on and shows you how to go about making the necessary changes and improvements. It covers all aspects – physical, mental and emotional. You get a personal Health Report & Health Score too.
Because it’s online, it’s available to you whenever you need it, so time is less of an issue. In addition, and it’s completely private to you, allowing you to be totally honest! It’s very good at helping you to stay motivated and “on track” to achieve the targets you set yourself. For example, if your goal is to lose weight and get fitter, there’s a personal Dashboard where you can follow your progress week by week, which helps a lot.
There’s even an online “coach” who helps you if you are struggling. There are 9 online wellbeing programmes available ranging from nutrition, fitness and emotional health – our newest StepStone Challenge encourages you to lose a stone and/or get fitter in 13 weeks. You can do this programme entirely online or join a weekly StepStone group based in Upton or a new one starting soon in Malvern and the whole plan costs less than £0.70 per week. We believe it would be a valuable tool for practitioners to offer to their clients to complement your services, as many face a number of physical, mental and emotional challenges. We are a local business based in Upton and would welcome enquiries from practitioners who would like to be able to offer the system to their clients or groups, and we would be able to offer a commission for each client registering with the system.
Whether for yourself or the benefit of others, please have a look at our website: www.WellnessCounts.co.uk Or come along to our Malvern launch:

Deep Peace through mindfulness
23
11 12
Mindfulness is in vogue at the moment. There are mindfulness based therapies available on the NHS,
and the word itself is cropping up all over the place. But what is it, and how can it help us.
Mindfulness practices have their roots in ancient wisdom but what they teach us is just as valuable today as it was 2500 years ago.
Mindfulness practice is about developing our awareness, and putting that awareness to good use. Basic meditations encourage us to notice our breath, to observe how the air enters and leaves the body.
We learn to observe without judgement; to be curious without becoming involved. We watch the breath with interest, without trying to change the breath, and without trying to breathe in a better way.
Straightaway we feel a sense of peace, as our attention is taken away from our usual frenetic thoughts and onto something that only exists in the present moment: we begin to unhook from the worries of daily life.
More advanced practices encourage us to watch our thoughts. This is more difficult. We are used to thinking rather than observing thinking. Usually when we have a thought we elaborate upon it, one thought leads to another. In a mindfulness practice instead of adding energy to the thinking process, we are asked to simply watch it unfold. In this way we start to get to know the character of our own minds. What do we hold on to? What stories do we create? How does our idea of who we are affect the choices we make? The way to deep sustainable peace is through these practices, as we get to know ourselves in this way, we start to accept ourselves for who we really are.

The Jeremy Irons film, ‘Trashed’, shown at ‘The Cube’ in July,
left me feeling deeply shocked, as it did many others. I was taken aback by the shots of mountains of rubbish .. mostly plastic, slowly collapsing into an increasingly polluted ocean.
It caused me to question how much I really understood about what happens to my trash… the answer being ‘not much! Remembering to pack a shopping bag, and leave as much packaging as possible on the supermarket counter seems meaningless in the face of such horrors as were shown in the film. However, in late August, I discovered that my experience with that film had barely prepared me for my visit to one such area of devastation. My husband, Raphael, and I belong to a non-religious spiritual organization called Subud. Within this is a ‘Wing’, Susila Dharma International Association, (SDIA) which is popularly known as 'the charitable arm of Subud'.
to English language summer schools in Moldova, the projects being implemented by SDIA members span the fields of Child Development and Education, Community Health and Wellbeing and Sustainable Livelihoods. SDIA is the central body, with UN consultative status, taking the UN Millennium Development Goals as one of its approaches, and Raphael and I are volunteer directors on the International Board. Every year the directors and voting members of SDIA are required to meet together for the Annual General Meeting. In order for as many members and project leaders as possible get an opportunity to attend, the location of these meetings changes. This year we were invited by Indonesia, enabling attendance for over 30 project leaders and staff from Indonesia, as well as representatives from New Zealand, Australia, Japan, India, USA, Canada, and Europe. We had many rich presentations, and opportunities to visit some of the projects in Indonesia. One afternoon we visited a clean water project where Susila Dharma Indonesia is instrumental in providing drinking water for village communities, collaborating with the Planet Water Foundation.
The special thing about the village in which this facility is situated is that it is contained within literally mountains of trash brought in from Jakarta in high-sided lorries, which continuously add to the growing plastic-filled terrain where families live and work. The site is large enough have its own little shop and school and we drove in along a road between piles of trash, past oozing ponds of muddy water. Pollution from the trash leaks into water sources: everything is coated in a miasma of dust and there is a feeling of suffocation.
Many countries within the worldwide community of Subud have their own SD National organisation, which usually work with humanitarian projects in other parts of the globe, occasionally in partnership with government departments for overseas development. From healthcare in DR Congo, caring for the dying in UK, scholarships in Indonesia, organic farming in India, using puppets to explore sensitive issues in France and worldwide,
Clean Water Project
Our host Purnama Widjajakusumah (SD Indonesia chair) explains how the water filteration works.

Working in collaboration with Planet Water, the members of SD Indonesia search for and locate a school with suitable land to house a bore well and purification tower, and commitment from the school to provide maintenance. Planet water provides the equipment, in this case with additional funding from Starbucks, and the school and SD Indonesia maintain it. Not even Jeremy Iron’s film had prepared me for the actuality of the stench, the way the dirt pervaded everything, my desire to stop breathing because of what was around me, but within the atrocity of living conditions we were seeing, this tower of shining steel gushing sparkling water and young children drinking from clear glasses, this is a true oasis providing for the basic need of water – I felt a sense of privilege at being able to witness this miracle.
Note: Planet water is a US based, non-profit organization focused on bringing clean water to the world’s most disadvantaged communities through the installation of community-based water filtration systems and deploying hygiene education programmes. Today, more than 1 billion people do not have access to clean water. Today, 50% of the hospital beds on Earth are occupied by people with easily preventable waterborne diseases. Today, 4,000 children will kie from water related illnesses simply because they lack access to clean water. The Aqua Tower solution supports the daily drinking water requirements of up to 1,000 people, can be operated without power or use of chemicals harmful to the environment, and requires no consumables with a very simple maintenance process.
