It must be admitted that the ECB president is bang on target. The Economy Ministry has acted with a level of improvisation in the Bankia case, to the extent that — as is demonstrated by the risk premium — it is bringing the Spanish economy to its knees. The question remains whether such foolishness is the result of a desire to conceal from public the enormity of the financial black hole or whether it is simply the result of inexperience. In any case, it is unacceptable to claim, that the Bank of Spain governor Miguel Ángel Fernández Ordóñez is solely to blame for the financial disaster. Neither is it correct to lay the blame on Greece. No matter how hard Mariano Rajoy tries to prove otherwise, the main responsibility for the bailout threat posed by a risk premium of 534 lies with his government’s lamentable handling of the financial reform and the Bankia crisis.

Is the Euro being kept way over valued by Germany?

So How MucH Money DoeS Spain want?

The president of the European Central Bank (ECB), Mario Draghi, summed up European unease over the Bankia crisis with a terse analysis that, while applying to other governments, seemed tailor-made for Spain: “That is the worst possible way of doing things, because everybody ends up doing the right thing but at the highest possible cost and price.”

Is the Spain’s best bet?

With this phrase, Draghi completed an perfect description Euro reality, in which governments systematically underestimate the recapitalisation needs of their troubled banks and, ignoring reality, “come out with a first assessment, a second, a third, fourth... and so on” All of which come up short.

The Spanish government has presented three assessments of the banking sector’s capital needs, the latest is 24 billion euros, and there will be more to come. Insiders close to Mallorca Advertiser suggest that Bankia alone needs 30 billion.

cHriStMaS roaSt at arSenal!

This weeks from the dugout takes me back to when I was child and before anyone writes in. no I am not going to say during the war!

When I was a youngster, my Grandfather was involved in our beloved game of football and for many years he was the assistant Manager at Arsenal when Terry Neil was the manager. We were as a family spending the festive season with Nan and Granddad in the village of Bengeo Hertfordshire. It was Christmas morning and a few days before Arsenal had played Norwich in the old first division and had been beaten rather heavily, first thing on that morning I heard my granddad Wilf Dixon on the phone to Terry Neil. “I want them all in today this morning by 10.30am”. Terry protested but as always with Granddad Terry was persuaded that granddad was right and it was then that between them they phoned around all of the first team players and told

them to be at the training ground, London Colney, by 10.30 am, not one player dared to argue (would that happen today?), Granddad asked me if I would like to come along. Stupid question “yeah! it’s the law as a Dixon to be as nosey as we can.

We arrived at the training ground a little before 10.30am and to their credit all the first team made it most were whinging and moaning but Granddad and Terry said nothing. Players were even coming up to me and asking what’s Dixon up to? “Don’t ask me I’m just his Grandson”, I replied. An hour and a half past and as twelve o’clock approached Granddad climbed on a table. Now as you can tell from the picture of him with the FA cup which they won in 1979 he is not a tall man and needed to be on the table to be seen, come to think of it I don’t recall how he got up there. The players are now all looking at him and waiting with baited breath. “RIGHT YOU

SHOWER OF!!!!! (well I can’t print what he said but I know you know) you lost against Norwich badly the other day in fact you wasted mine and Terry’s time for 90 minutes, you wasted Arsenals time for 90 minutes and worse than that you wasted the fans time for 90 minutes now I have just wasted 90 minutes of you Christmas day now have a nice Christmas and I will see you after the break”.

Wilf Dixon - Still not a man to mess with

Now both Nan and Granddad Dixon are still alive and well in their 90’s and living in Oxfordshire, needless to say as much as I live over here in Mallorca and I am, to be fair, a big lad if Granddad says to me young man Jump I reply yes Granddad how high.

Till next week be nice to each other

MEXX COLLECTION 2012

Women’s Wear CollectionMexx goes all romantic in May, with a focus on 50’s neo romantic, a collection which is full of feminine floral prints and Vichy checks.

Key outfit combinations for the May are the cigarette pants and cropped blazers along with the summer dresses and cardigans.

The 50’s floral prints are used throughout the collection and pair perfectly with the drainpipe coloured denim, a great alternative

to a blue denim through the summer months. Within the collection details such as smocking and lace edging are added to the pieces throughout, adding that extra touch of femininity.

The May collection is the start of summer season and the colours used reflect this. Light carnation, lemon soda and hortensia particularly come to the fore and bring the floral prints to life.

Menswear CollectionMenswear for May 2012 goes nautical, with the collection centring on inspiration taken from the ocean and sailing. The theme is

clearly conveyed through nautical prints with imagery such as hand drawn ropes and anchors. With the inclusion of key pieces

such as the casual blazers in lightweight baby canvas and cube checked shorts with multiple stitching details, Summer has

definitely arrived with the Mexx May collection.

The collection continues with the nautical feeling through v-neck fineline t-shirts with maritime back prints, shorts with varying bleach effects and linen shorts, which feature multiple stitching details. Shirts are also key to the collection with the use of double abric, creating the contrast of the outside puppy tooth and inside contrast solid colour.

Colours for this season consist of the classic sailing shades such as Riviera red and yachting blue along with those are the renewed bleached berry, summer grape and fresh green.

JITTERY FOREIGNERS TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN FROM SPAIN

The extent of the lack of confidence of foreign investors in Spain was evidenced by a massive outflow of funds invested in bonds, stocks and bank deposits in March; figures released Thursday by the Bank of Spain showed.

Net withdrawals in March came to 66.2 billion euros, almost double the amount in December of last year, which marked the previous record. The central bank began compiling financial investment flow figures in 1990.

Spain’s risk premium hit a euro-era high of 540 basis points on Wednesday after a massive selloff of government bonds.

At the same time, according to figures from the European Central Bank, bank deposits by companies and individuals in Spanish banks declined 31.441 billion euros in April from the previous month to 1.624 trillion. That was the second biggest monthly fall after January 2010. Over the course of the past 12 months, deposits have declined by 103.735 billion euros.

The fall in deposits was caused by non-residents withdrawing their funds. Deposits by Spanish residents actually increased by eight billion euros to 1.16 trillion.

Aquarius This is an extremely dynamic period for your creatively – a time when ideas are born and fought for. It is a fun period too, but stress levels can be high, though more for partners and kids than for you. Love can be a bit of a battleground, and it is important to discuss emotional issues that are normally buried under the surface. It’s a great time for kids and their education. For the single Aquarian this is an excellent time for romance, especially if travel and culture are involved.

PiscesThe giant planet Jupiter is poised to leave Taurus in a couple of weeks, and as Jupiter is especially connected to Pisces, you can probably already sense the transition, which will focus your attention far more on family and domestic matters. Partners and family members are already busy and have a hundred different ideas about change. It seems like there ‘s a lot of challenges ahead and it would be nice if you could avoid them, however soon you will be enrolled in a program for change, and you may as well go along with the majority rule.

CapricornThere may be considerable stress and confusion around you, but you manage to keep a lofty overview, and generally you are helping the people who are supposed to be helping you. One of the issues you are going to have to deal with is a lot of bickering, as people jostle for position and try to get their ideas accepted. Discussions can

be a fertile environment and you know exactly how to make the most of it. This week it is possible to pick up an old connection, or perhaps rescue an important deal, especially if you make the most of the talent around you.

SagittariusThe planet Jupiter is normally associated with your sign, and for the last year it has been in Taurus, where the focus has been on consolidating your finances and transforming your work situation. This is the last week that Jupiter will be in Taurus… Soon it will move on and the focus will shift to relationships. There are a lot of new developments in this area already and partners are incredibly busy and stressed, promoting their agenda and ideas. Soon you will be involved in these plans, and your peaceful life will go through an interesting evolution. Right now, gather information and communicate.

ScorpioYou have been very productive recently, especially with friends and organisations, which have needed your ability to organise and cut to the chase. However, some of the work you have been doing may not have made you very popular and perhaps you have the feeling that you are being sniped at. Obviously, if you feel unappreciated, you are going to feel more stressed or irritable – both with friends and loved ones. The best way to proceed is to talk over the issues, especially the things that are normally politely hidden under the surface.

LibraYour sign ruler Venus has moved retrograde, giving an harmonious connection to the planet of goals and discipline – Saturn. This may mean that a long term project for expanding your horizons intellectually or through travel will bring great personal satisfaction, by the end of July. What is good for your intellectual and professional ambitions, however, may not be so good for relationships. It’s difficult to shake off a sense of being undermined by those you are attached to, there is also a continued sense of relationships being unpredictable. You may even find yourself attracted to someone who you cannot reach. Keep focused on your goals and don’t get distracted by matters of the heart. You are on the verge of a period of tremendous insight into the meaning and direction of your life. Old interests are eclipsed and you may find yourself proceeding down a dual path of knowledge.

VirgoThere is a tremendous amount happening in your professional life at the moment and you are the one holding all the strings and trying to keep them from getting tangled. Your skills come to the fore, especially regarding marketing, networking and communication, this already starts to pay financial dividends this week. If you play your cards right – and you will – you can convince someone of a financial deal that is going to benefit both of you.

LeoThis is an enormously active period for you socially, which is both stimulating and rather disorientating at the same time. What works as the week starts is for you to hand over the baton to a friend who can take care of all the connections and knows exactly who to contact, and when and where to contact them. You do need some private time to tune out once in a while. Stress levels are high and increasing, not least because you have to make ends meet financially and there can be some worrying expenses. Basically, things are going to go very well in terms of future plans, partnership and education.

CancerYou are in a rather subdued mood these days, although all sorts of ideas are racing through your head. What is going on in your inner life is rather more important than what is going on in the outer world, although at the end of July things will be the other way around. Use this period for introspection and for touching base with people with whom you share the same spiritual world view. Don’t worry too much if you feel a little out of touch professionally… there will be plenty of reminders of work that needs doing, and you are going to be very busy anyway. Divide your time equally between working and relaxing.

GeminiBasically you are running the show right now. Everyone is looking to you for ideas, and that is no problem, because you have lots of them, some realistic, and some perhaps not so realistic! You express yourself well, make contact with lots of people, and you are very forceful, which is bound to irritate a few family members who think that they are doing all the work, while you have all the fun. This is a wonderful week for travel and for meeting people with ideas which correspond to your own. You are on course to meet someone from the past with who you have a strong mental bond.

TaurusVery soon the planet Jupiter will be leaving your sign, where it has been for a year. This has been a confidence booster for you, with a focus on consolidating your resources and understanding the meaning and direction of your life. Other people are starting to take the lead and partners, in particular, have many ideas about the administration of resources and are quite forceful about them. Tension levels can get high, also, because kids or creative projects tend to eat up resources at this time. But you have hundreds of ideas about how to earn money and use your talents, so no need to worry.

AriesThings move fast this week and stress levels are quite high, especially on Monday when there are many people with many ideas. Your view is that it is one thing to talk about things, but who is going to do the work? Unfortunately you are in the minority, which means that you are just going to have to listen. Relations with siblings, neighbours and people you meet on your travels tend to be affected by different views, but this could be an interesting and active week. Partners seek advice with people who counsel a different course of action than you would prefer… best to go along with things right now.
