5 REFUSE AND REUSE
Together we can reduce waste, prevent litter, and protect our waterways.
For more ideas about removing plastic from your life, visit DenverGov.org/refuse-reuse
THINK REUSABLE• Use maps, fabric,
or newspaper instead of wrapping paper. Remember, all wrapping paper (including plain, metallic, and glittery) is not accepted for recycling in your purple cart.
• Skip plastic bows and ribbon. Instead, choose natural decorations like pine cones or reusable ribbon/twine.
• Swap paper plates, paper napkins, and plastic utensils for reusable dinnerware. Thrift stores are a great way to stock up on reusable dinnerware for entertaining.
Look for gifts with minimal packaging and that are made to last.
RECYCLE RIGHTNever put glittery cards, photo paper, bubble wrap, packing peanuts, plastic bags, tissue paper, or wrapping paper in your purple cart. For a complete list of what can be recycled, visit DenverGov.org/DenverRecycles.
PREVENT FOOD WASTE• Compost food scraps and paper napkins.
Examples include: moldy leftovers, bones, dairy, vegetable scraps, paper napkins. Sign up today at DenverGov.org/GoGreen.
• Store food correctly. Don’t let those delicious holiday meal leftovers go bad before they’re eaten. Learn about food storage techniques at SaveTheFood.com/Storage.
For more information, visit DenverGov.org/Treecycle.
Tree Collection Day
REMOVE all decorations, lights, and the tree stand from your tree.
SET YOUR TREE OUT for collection by 7 a.m. on one of your scheduled trash collection days between January 4 and 15.
RECLAIM FREE MULCH made from your tree at the annual Mulch Giveaway & Compost Sale in May.
For information on how to reduce your food waste, visit SaveTheFood.com.

Bubble (liquid-filled) or neon lights. Please remove
light strings from packaging material and bags.
Do you have broken, burned-out, or impossibly tangled sets of holiday lights stored away with last year’s decorations?
Don’t throw them out — recycle them for free instead!
Light strings and wires for incandescent, LED,
and “icicle” lights. Attached bulbs okay.
