First, we$re going to sharpen our image a bit using the %nsharp &ask 'Filter ( )harpen ( %nsharp &ask*! We
don$t want anything too drastic, so + used some low settings! mount- ./01 Radius- /!2 pi3els1 Threshold- 4 level!
"ou basically want enough to make a difference, but you don$t want any glowing or hard edges!

Now we$re going to add a #evels d5ustment layer '#ayer ( New d5ustment #ayer ( #evels*! When the #evels
dialog opens, 5ust click on uto! lot of people frown on the uto #evels, but if you don$t know what you$re doing,
they$re a lifesaver!
Ne3t step is to add a Brightness67ontrast d5ustment layer '#ayer ( New d5ustment #ayer (
Brightness67ontrast*! +ncrease the 7ontrast a little bit, 4/ is usually a good standard amount! Too much and it
looks fake!
8ne more ad5ustment layer9 the Hue6)aturation d5ustment layer '#ayer ( New d5ustment #ayer (
Hue6)aturation*! +ncrease the )aturation very slightly! + usually never use more than :;!

Now add a #ayer &ask to your blurred layer '#ayer ( dd #ayer &ask ( Reveal ll* and paint the focal areas
black to hide the blur! 8nce you$re done, you can even alter the opacity of the blurred layer to reduce the amount
of the blur!

For a moment + thought the original shot was nice1 like what was the point of retouching it a bit!
Then seeing the retouched picture, it was actually nice! + love photography and + have learned that
you don$t have to add a lot into an image! For e3ample adding a lot of Hue6)aturation,
Brighten67ontrast, )harpen, etc!

There$s a basic point to emphasie- a few seconds e3tra care when you are taking the picture can
save you an hour of repairing carelessness! Going back to retake the picture is an e3tension of the
same idea!
Retouching and cleaning up are most worth the trouble when there is no hope of retaking the
picture, as in tourist shots when you will never go back, photos of people who are now dead or
greatly changed in appearance! Now that digital cameras eliminate the cost of film, take lots and
lots of pictures, bracket the e3posures, bracket the color balance, Fire your camera like a machine
gun and then throw away most of the re5ects! fter you get to that stage, then retouch!
