Make uterine fibroids vanish without risky surgery
Q: I've been diagnosed with uterine fibroids and my doctor says I need surgery to remove
them. But I consider surgery a last resort and we haven't tried anything else. Is there
nothing else I can try first?
A: There are many women with uterine fibroids who are told surgery, such as a
hysterectomy, is their only option. I have shared a story of how I used intravenous sodium
iodide to shrink uterine fibroids.
Also, let's start with black cohosh. In 2014 a randomized, double-blind, controlled Chinese
study was reported. Thirty-four women with at least one fibroid took an extract of black
cohosh while another 28 with at least one fibroid took a patented pseudo-estrogen called
tibilone.
The black cohosh group saw their median fibroid volume shrink 30 percent, while the
tibolone group had a small (4.7 percent) median volume increase.
A 2013 study found that the green tea extract epigallocatechin gallate, or ECGC, also may
be an effective remedy for fibroids. In randomized, placebo-controlled research done in
Egypt, 22 women with at least one fibroid measuring three-quarters of an inch or larger
(confirmed by transvaginal ultrasound) took 800 milligrams of green tea extract (45 percent
ECGC), while 11 women took a placebo for four months.
Follow-up transvaginal ultrasound determined that the women who took the placebo had an
average 24.3 percent increase in fibroid volume. The women who took the green tea extract
showed a significant reduction of 32.6 percent. They also experienced a substantial
reduction in fibroid-related symptom severity, and a significant reduction in blood loss with
an accompanying improvement in anemia.
Finally, in 2011, Japanese researchers reported that curcumin, the active ingredient in the
spice turmeric, significantly inhibited the growth and proliferation of animal fibroid cells.
Talk with your doctor about whether one of these treatments may be appropriate for you
before resorting to surgery. Best of luck.
