The NewJersey Civil Service Commission overseesthe NJ CPM Program.

About the ProgramThe New Jersey Certified Public ManagerProgram equips participants with the skillsand competencies needed to impact theirorganization’s efforts to meet its mission and performance goals in today’s dynamic public management environment. Participants will gain theknowledge needed to tackle complex organizational challenges, manage theirday-to-day operations more effectively, andgrow as leaders. The program also providesa framework upon which leaders can buildand apply throughout their career.
The NJ CPM Program is designed aroundthe core leadership requirements established by the National Consortiumof Certified Public Managers. The curriculum was developed jointly by Rutgers University’s School of Public Affairs and Administration (SPAA) andthe New Jersey Civil Service Commissionto meet the complex demands and challenges of the 21st-century publicmanagement environment. Courses aretaught by Rutgers full-time faculty andqualified practitioners in their areas ofcompetence.
Program RequirementsTo be eligible for the NJ CPM Program,candidates must be a manager, adminis-trator, or supervisor in a public organiza-tion in New Jersey – such as state, countyand municipal governments, boards, authorities, and nonprofit organizations –and have at least two years of supervisory experience. Candidates whodo not currently supervise staff but haveresponsibility for managing, coordinating,
or overseeing a program area whose deliverable has an impact beyond theircurrent work unit will also be considered.Candidates must have the approval andsupport of their current supervisor anddepartment/agency. A Bachelors Degreeis not required and participants are notrequired to enroll in or complete an academic degree program; however, Rutgers will accept college credits forcompletion of the NJ CPM Program.
