Our diverse places make a fabulous teaching and learning resource and we are committed to ensuring your pupils get the most out of their day.

We are able to provide first-hand experiences that cannot be recreated in the classroom; experiences in the ‘real’ environment where young people can feast their senses, practice new skills and develop their creativity and love of learning.

We are now developing exciting new ways to present our special places – by firing the imaginations of the widest possible range of visitors. We will focus on ensuring inspiring, enjoyable and memorable experiences of our places – coast, countryside and built properties.

How to book a visitEducation Group Membership (EGM) gives education groups discounted entry to National Trust places. This membership is open to non-profit-making groups whose members are in full-time education.The National Trust is keen to welcome learning groups to its sites.In order to gain the most from your visit, we ask that you note the following points:• Please book all group visits in advance. This will

ensure that we have enough staff and volunteers on hand to ensure that your visit is a safe and enjoyable one.

• We encourage preliminary visits for planning purposes and these are free. We also ask that visits are booked with our staff, so that you will have the opportunity to meet them and discuss your plans for the day.

• EGM cards cannot be used for ticketed events, or in lieu of the fees charged for use of the National Trust’s canals and camp sites.

• An EGM membership card is non-transferable and may only be used by one group from the membership institution at one time. An additional nominal fee is charged for each additional card required by the EGM.

• Many of our sites welcome self-guided visits, however please book this in advance to ensure the sites don’t get overcrowded.

Group supervisionIndividual sites may have different requirements but as a minimum we require for primary aged children one accompanying adult for every eight pupils. For secondary and tertiary we require one adult for every 15 pupils or students. Please bring a minimum of two supervising adults per group.Groups with additional needs or undertaking specialised activities need to have higher numbers of accompanying adults, to be confirmed with the place at the time of booking.

Each year, we offer about 400 Working Holidays from 3 to 10 days long, including Youth Discovery holidays for young people aged 16–18. These take place in our beautiful places throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland.Participants get involved in a wide range of essential conservation tasks, such as drystone walling, hedge laying, and footpath repair. The holidays also provide an opportunity for young people to learn about their heritage, make new friends and work together as a team – perhaps towards a goal such as a Duke of Edinburgh Award.
