NETBALLSCOTLAND
The MAKE IT R.E.A.L. GUIDELINES outline the progressive skills expected of athletes at all levels of the Netball Scotland Athlete Pathway Programme. The Competency Guidelines are shown for each area of the pathway from Junior Pathway Centre to Scottish Thistles.
Our recommendation for players within the Primary Pathway Centre is to follow the philosophy of Netball Scotland’s Fun 5z programme.
The Competencies are shown in two sections, one for Junior Pathway Centres & Development Centres, the second from U17National Squads through to Scottish Thistles and are broken down as follows:-

All players should have their own netball and use daily to become confident and familiar with the ball.
CATCHINGDemonstrates the ability to catch a ball with 1 or 2 hands
either stationary or moving.
Catches the ball using full extension of arms.Can contest the ball in a ‘toss up’ situation.
GETTING FREEHas emphasis on forward movement and can use a variety of
movements from a stationary start to get free:-Hold and lunge; Dodge and drive; Front cut; Back cut;
Reverse pivot; Roll.
Introduction of ‘read off’ principles and placement of these on court.
Can start to identify defensive cues and shows a willingness to re-offer.
GETTING FREECan get free by using a variety of moves:-
