Instructions

To Make the Tail End:

• Take the kitchen roll tube and use a pencil and ruler to draw this Y shape on one end. Cut along the solid lines and fold the two flaps back along the dotted lines to make part of the plane’s tail.

• Draw the shapes on page 8 onto cardboard and cut out. These will make the wings, a tail piece and nose cone for the plane.

• Cut out all of the shapes and fold along the dotted line of the tail piece.

• Turn over the kitchen roll, so that the tail flaps you have just created are resting on the table.

• Cut a 4cm slit in the middle of the top of the tail end of the kitchen roll.

• Slide the folded tab of the tail end into the slit and use glue or double-sided sticky tape to secure.

3

To Make the Nose Cone: • Take the cardboard nose cone

circle and cut a slit to the centre.

• Wrap the cardboard around into a cone shape and stick together with glue or double-sided sticky tape.

• Use scissors to make 4 slits in the body of the cone. These need to be big enough to fit your lollypop sticks into. The slits should be roughly at the clock positions of 11, 1, 5 and 7 if you are looking straight at the cone.

• Stick the cone onto the front end of the kitchen roll tube using glue or double-sided sticky tape.

4

To Make the Wings:

• Fold along the dotted lines of the two cardboard wings you have cut out.

• Stick the wings on either side of the body of the kitchen roll tube using the fold over tabs at the end.

5

To Decorate the Plane:

• Paint all of the plane using camouflage colours.

• Paint the 4 lollipop sticks black. • The coloured circles on the

wings and sides of the plane are Royal Air Force roundels – these are special marks that are painted onto planes to help identify them.

• When everything is dry, insert the lollipop sticks into the holes in the nose cone.

• Use the circle template on page 8and cut out a circle of greaseproof or baking paper for the cockpit.

• Cut a slit to the centre of the circle, wrap the paper around into a wide cone shape and stick together with glue or double-sided sticky tape.

• Stick this on the body of the plane, between the 2 wings.

• Use a felt tip to draw the windows onto the cockpit – remember to not press on too hard!

The Spitfire was one of the most famous planes

of World War Two. The clever design gave the

British a big advantage fighting the German air

force in the Battle of Britain.
