    Major Policy rethink!

    FAYAZ AHMED ABRO.

W ith reference to the article Major Policy rethink published in Dawn on June 29, 2010written by Shahid Javed Barqi a renowned Economist of Pakistan. It is very odd todiscuss on the formulation of policies without realising their due scope in policyframework, since inception of Pakistan it remained a major hallmark that policies have

been prepared without considering the possible visionary consequences, as resultcomities have been formed as per political objectives, but they have took a long duration,

waste of time, resources and talent but apparently no conclusive agenda has been preoccupied as yet.

Similarly, writer has been stressed on rethinking of policies, but the great virtue of democratic government is to rebuild the concept of Policy Making with respect to theneeds and will of people, but unfortunately the public representatives and public officeholders put it under the carpet.

Ideological and historical background of the country appeals towards specific issues pertaining to the current dynamism. Economic chaos, social dilemmas and foreign policyrequires extra attention by keeping in view the universal trends and changing

    phenomenon of this landscape.

Increasing foreign pressures puts Pakistan into a complexity and circumstantial areas of job, demands of IMF, trade and economic barriers, social and diplomatic challenges withIndia, Iran and significantly USA are the core concerns of policy rethink.

Actually, dichotomy of relations with US and Iran creates problem on the way of projectsthat are in pipeline, Afghanistan is still creating dysfunctional harms, being a neighbor and also on war of terror issue, as a result Pakistans credibility comes under the debate, otherwise it has been recognized for Pakistan that it is a major vehicle derived byPakistan on war on terror as a frontline state.

Really, past has a profound influence on present, throughout the journey. Politicalinterventions in the history shown a great deal of gloom from dictators, this is not atime to invite them again, so the responsibility lies on democratic government to close allthe ways and rooms for this unconstitutional practice.

But again it seems, and observed that mismanagement, poor governance, corruption, lawlessness and over all caution in this fabric of politics may allow them.

This conflict of policy rethink only can be resolved when the democratic functions will be utilized with scholastic and pedagogic means; this is where the media and civil societyare passing their transitional phase. Strategic dialogue with India can create a paradigmshift towards peace and economic liberty within area. Confrontation and war of words isnot the solution to any problem it is as like as the pursuing new dialogue but in

    emergency.

Last but not least. Within education, economic and good governance issues must berethink otherwise the name and fame will be questioned mark.
