HumidityA setting that is too humid or too dry could alter your kitchen. Since wood is natural living matter, it can be especially affected by such variations.

You should therefore try to achieve the correct degree of humidity: from 40 to 70% humidity is optimal.

Make sure you air the kitchen regularly. In winter, hang air humidifiers over radiators.

WorktopsDo not place any pans or dishes that have just come out of the oven or off the hob directly onto the worktop or resin sink: use hot pads.

The worktops feature a limited resistance to heat: laminated worktops could incur irreparable damage when exposed to temperatures of more than 180°C.

For instance, the bottom of a saucepan used to boil water exceeds 250°C.

Heat and steam

UnitsThe frequent and prolonged build-up of steam (from the hob or dishwasher) along with hot air (from the oven) could cause the edges of units and fronts to come unstuck.

• When using the hob, and a few minutes before you start cooking, make sure you turn the hood on, so as to remove any steam.

• Always wipe off any water and condensation from the fronts and sides of units.

• Remember to open your pressure cooker under the hood (in operation).

• Do not allow the steam and heat from small household appliances (microwave ovens, coffee machines, kettles or egg cookers) to warp your units! The steam causes these units to dilate. When in use, always place any small household appliances that create steam (such as coffee machines, etc.) at the front of the worktop.

• Always turn the hood on when you cook!

Usage advice

Oven/DishwasherAvoid leaving the oven or dishwasher ajar to allow it to cool.

After using your dishwasher or following a fast clean pyrolytic cycle in your oven, allow the appliance to cool for 30 at least minutes before opening it.

Indeed, the heat or humidity could damage the adjacent units.

Stains on varnished and lacquered wood• Everyday cleaning: use a soft dry cloth or one dipped in warm water.

• Tough stains: use methylated spirit, then wipe with a damp cloth.

Rub in the same direction as the wood grain.

Read the instructions before you start, always pour the cleaning product onto a cloth, never directly onto the stain. Test a hidden part of the surface first. Only treat one material at a time and, if necessary, protect the others (gilt nails, fixings). Dab a stain from the outside in to avoid it spreading.

Always use clean, lint-free cloths.

NEVER use: - scouring products (powders or creams) and abrasive sponges - thinners, such as: solvents, acetone, white-spirit, etc… - silicone based cleaning products and paint restoration products (polish)

Note: since wood is natural living matter, differences in shade could appear over time, due to the evolution of the colour of the wood exposed to Uv (sun and moon rays).

Stains on varnished and lacquered wood Treatments to use

Solid wood or wood veneered fronts and decor unitsWood is living matter distinguished by natural differences in colour and grain. The effect of light and sunrays leads to normal discolouring which cannot be cause for complaint. Solid wood fronts are easy to care for. The surfaces are assembled using several layers of lacquer and a top quality varnish. Clean them using a slightly damp cloth, always following the direction of the wood grain in order to clean all the pores. In order to remove any remaining humidity in the profiles, corners and edges, wipe all fronts with a dry cloth. Avoid any spots or stains from drying by wiping them off immediately. Again, avoid using cloths that are too wet.

Do not expose wood to air that is too humid or too dry. If you do, the wood could warp (dilate or shrink) despite the lacquer and varnish applied with such great care. This is why it is vital that you turn the hood on when cooking and make sure you air the room appropriately.

Ideal degree of humidity in a kitchen: between 40% and 70% After cooking, dry any wet surfaces to avoid any swelling.

Lacquered fronts and surfaces (brilliant, satined, micron, acrylic)This type of finish is extremely easy to care for:• for simple marks: wipe off with a soft cloth,• for all stains (water, food, animal fat, vegetable grease - drinks...) one piece of advice:

simply wipe off with a sponge, some hot water and a little washing-up liquid, then dry with a soft cloth and hey presto!

Never dry clean lacquered and brilliant fronts! Using abrasive cleaning products (microfibre cloths, scouring pads, etc....) could scratch the surfaces. Such scratches cannot be cause for complaints.

everyday fine scratches visible under halogen lighting or in sunlight are the result of the polishing process used to provide the brilliant finish and are not a surface fault.

• Everyday cleaning: use a soft cloth dipped in warm water. Dry off any traces of water using a soft cloth without rubbing.

• Greasy stains: water-based household cleaning product, washing-up liquid, glass cleaner or methylated spirit. Always apply the product to a soft cloth before use.

Unit carcases and other melamine, laminated or polymer-coated surfaces• Everyday cleaning: clean with soapy water, methylated spirit + water

or washing-up liquid, rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth.

NEVER use: - scouring products (powders or creams) and abrasive sponges - thinners, such as: solvents, acetone, white-spirit, etc… - silicone based cleaning products and paint restoration products (polish)

Glass surfaces: doors, worktops, countertops, glass shelves, mirrors

Glass is a high-performance and durable material, provided you keep to a few rules based on common sense:

• Make sure the unit is firmly wedged to the floor (as it affects the door adjustments)

• From time to time, check that all fixings, apertures, runners, securing profiles, handles, attachment brackets, etc. are securely in place,

• Observe the maximum recommended loads for the shelves, and check the stability of their supports,

• Handle doors gently: do not throw them open, hold them as they finish opening or slam them shut,

• When the doors are open, do not lean on them or hang onto them to help yourself up,

• Never allow the glass surface to get near to or indeed touch a naked flame, or a hot or burning item,

• Do not rub the glass surface with metallic objects, ceramic pots or with the back of your hand if you are wearing a ring (diamonds scratch glass),

• Clean with a glass cleaner and a soft cloth (never use abrasive powder),

• In the event of a chipped edge, a shard due to impact or a scratch, the glass could break unexpectedly from that point, even long after the initial event: give your dealer the reference number of your order for an identical replacement as soon as possible.

• In the event of breakage, give your dealer the reference number of your order for an identical replacement as soon as possible.

• Everyday cleaning: glass cleaning products readily available on the market, to be used with a soft cloth or kitchen towels.

NEVER use: All types of abrasive or scouring products

- Do not place hot saucepans or frying pans or any other hot items directly on the worktop as this would cause direct damage. This is why you must under all circumstances use hot pads.

- Do not chop directly on the worktop. Use a chopping board: despite its resistance to scratches, it is the only way to avoid worktop scratches altogether.

Brilliant and matt worktops catch the eye thanks to their surprising aesthetical appeal. Nonetheless, keep in mind that marks are more visible on this type of surface.

Take care when moving items or china, ceramic or terracotta cookware as it could leave dull marks on the brilliant surface. These marks are unavoidable and in no way impair the qualitative properties or the use of the product.

Such marks will not be considered cause for complaint.

Worktops

General maintenance recommendations

• Remember to dry your worktops after use.

• Do not leave water to stagnate, especially in the assembly points of the worktops, on edgings and around sinks, hobs, etc…

The different acids used for remove limescale from coffee machines could damage the worktop, so consumers should take all the necessary precautions to protect the worktop during any limescale removal procedures. Cooking vinegar does not stain.

Tip: To avoid any steam from forming under the worktop when the dishwasher is in use, which could cause swelling, we recommend you leave the appliance door closed for at least 30 minutes after the end of the wash cycle.

We cannot be held liable for this type of damage.

Page 8: Maintenance guide - maison-deco.net€¦ · Stains on varnished and lacquered wood • Everyday cleaning: use a soft dry cloth or one dipped in warm water. • Tough stains: use methylated

Synthetic worktopsMade of synthetic materials, these worktops offer the added advantage of being perfectly waterproof with a built-in bowl. They are easy to clean, using soapy water or alcohol-based cleaning product (glass cleaner).

Please refer to the worktop maintenance guide.

Beware of lipstick and nail varnish stains which can only be removed using thinner or acetone. In any case, rinse thoroughly with water immediately after applying.

Oiled solid wood worktopsOiled solid wood is living matter, extremely durable, provided some basic maintenance steps are taken. A maintenance and touch-up kit was supplied with your purchase. For a replacement, please contact your nearest SCHMIDT Advice center. Take care not to allow liquids (water, wine, etc.) to stagnate on the worktop: it could be deeply stained. However, should your worktop get stained, the great advantage of having an oiled solid wood worktop is that it can easily be touched up: stains can be removed by sanding, then simply re-apply a layer of oil onto the damaged area.

Please refer to the worktop maintenance guide.

NEVER use:- exotic wood care products generally available on the market:

risk of incompatibility and non-conformity of the colour.- furniture wax- vegetable cooking oils- silicone-based products

Granitegranite is a very dense non-absorbing stone. Consequently, it does not allow any liquids to seep into it. For a brilliant polished finish granite, clean with a soft cloth and some water or glass cleaner. Only a diamond or another piece of granite can scratch granite. If this occurs, professional repolishing will be required.

Please refer to the maintenance guide and product supplied with your worktop.

AluminiumReact immediately to any dirt. Clean aluminium units simply with hot water or with water mixed with some washing-up liquid or glass cleaner. The first time you clean this type of surface or in the event of heavy dirt, we recommend you use a special aluminium cleaner and protector.

NEVER use: - scouring products (powders or creams) and abrasive sponges - thinners, such as: solvents, acetone, white-spirit, etc… - silicone based cleaning products and paint restoration products (polish)

Your Advice center will suggest the most appropriate care products for your kitchen.

Sink-TapsSince the sink is one of the most frequently used parts of a kitchen, it gathers and drains a large quantity of dirt and bacteria every day. Sinks need to be cared for daily, after each use, to avoid any dirt build-ups.

Synthetic sinksThe enemy in this case is first and foremost limescale. To avoid limescale deposits in the bowls, we recommend you clean your sink with soapy water after each use. If the limescale resists, use table vinegar. This maintenance procedure should be carried out once a week depending on where you live (very hard water favours limescale deposit at the bottom of the bowls which absorbs liquids such as coffee, tea, etc…, which gives the impression the sink is stained). leave vinegar on for 20 minutes and rinse with clean water.

If there are metal abrasions (pan bottoms, cutlery, etc…), clean the bowl with a classic scouring cream and a sponge. Rinse with clean water.

For tough stains, such as colouring fluids (tea, fruit juice, certain wines…), use a classic scouring cream and rinse with clean water. For other stains, such as those left by certain paints, ink… use a cloth soaked in methylated spirit. If there are still tough stains that are difficult to remove, or significant limescale deposits on the sink, then you should use an oxygen-enriched product such as baking powder. Dilute 10 spoonfuls of baking powder in 3 litres of water in the sink and leave to soak overnight.

NEVER use:- limescale-removal products- soda-based products, hydrochloric acid, citric acid, formic acid, or hydrofluoric acid

based products and their derivatives such as rust-removal products.

Do not place pans that have just come off the hob (max. 180°C) directly onto resin sinks.

Please see the manufacturer’s instructions for all further information.

Stainless steelRemove all normal dirt using an everyday cleaning product such as methylated spirit or soapy water. Then rinse with hot water and rub dry. In the event of tough dirt spots and water stains which are difficult to remove, we recommend you use a special stainless steel care product. This type of product provides additional protection thanks to a water-resistant protective film.

Please refer to the maintenance guide and product supplied with your worktop.

Everyday cleaning: water + washing-up liquid, or methylated spirit. Rinse with hot water and dry.

Tough stains: special stainless steel care product.

NEVER use: All types of abrasive or scouring products

Cleaning& care

Stainless steel sinksHighly sensitive to limescale, so we recommend you treat them regularly with a non-abrasive product.

Attention: Bleach or limescale-removal products readily available on the market can cause corrosion pits in your sink. To remove limescale, we recommend you use hot vinegar. Leave vinegar on for 20 minutes and rinse with clean water.

NEVER use: All types of abrasive or scouring products as these may scratch the sink

Ceramic sinksCeramic sinks are easy to clean with a sponge and some soapy water or ordinary cleaning product.

NEVER use:- limescale-removal products- soda-based products, hydrochloric acid, citric acid, formic acid, or hydrofluoric acid

based products and their derivatives such as rust-removal products.

Please see the manufacturer’s instructions for all further information.

Hob glass ceramic, induction and gas

Make sure you never allow sugar or other sweet recipes (such as jam) to burn on the hob surface! If this does occur, always wipe off any traces using a damp cloth, without any cleaning products.

To remove the most significant dirt spots, such as limescale, water stains and marks made by the brilliant metallic finish on pots and pans, use a stainless steel cleaning product or special hob cleaning products. Remove encrusted residue when the hob is still hot using a razor blade scraper.

Please see the manufacturer’s instructions for all further information.

Extractor hoodWash the metal grease filter(s) in the sink with washing-up liquid regularly. If the hood is fitted in recycling mode, it does not vent to the outside. It should therefore be fitted with an activated charcoal filter in addition to the grease filter. This filter must be replaced on a regular basis for optimal efficiency.

Unless otherwise stated by the manufacturer, we advise against washing it in the dishwasher as the temperature and aggressiveness of the cleaning products could lead to a change in the colour of the aluminium filters.

Please see the manufacturer’s instructions for all further information.

Hinges and spring bracketsThe hinges and spring brackets, especially the hinges on doors which are handled frequently, should be oiled once or twice a year. This also applies to other metallic hinging fixings (see page 12).

Moving plastic parts do not require any maintenance.

Cutlery trays, waste bins and plastic traysAll these products are removable and easy to clean. everyday cleaning with washing-up liquid and a damp cloth.

Tough stains: methylated spirit, then wipe with a damp cloth.

NEVER use: - scouring products (powders or creams) and abrasive sponges - thinners, such as: solvents, acetone, white-spirit, etc… - washing cutlery trays in the dishwasher.

Handles and metal accessoriesThe kitchen units are fitted with a handle-element or knobs, made of wood, metal, glass or plastic. To ensure you can benefit from the best use of your handle-element over time, we ask that you observe the following maintenance recommendations: Please make sure you only use aluminium-compatible cleaning products. You will find the relevant instructions from the manufacturers on the back of the cleaning product packaging.

NEVER use: - scouring products (powders or creams) and abrasive sponges - thinners, such as: solvents, acetone, white-spirit, benzine, etc… - acidic products, such as: vinegar, citric acid, etc… - metal cleaning products

Tables and chairsThe tables and chairs are made of wood, depending on the model, and you will find all the relevant maintenance tips on the previous pages of this guide.

Seats

Wood: Please refer to the section on wood care.

Straw: Straw seats are generally natural. For the correct care of your straw seats, we recommend you brush it gently or use a vacuum cleaner and that you use a sponge or damp cloth on any stains (do not use solvents).

Vinyl Leatherboard & Leather: Clean with a damp sponge and a little soapy water.

Acrylic and Polycarbonates: everyday cleaning using a soft cloth dipped in warm water. Dry off any traces of water using a soft cloth without rubbing. Greasy stains: water-based household cleaning product, washing-up liquid, glass cleaner or methylated spirit. Always apply the product to a soft cloth before use.

Tubes

Epoxy: Damp sponge with soapy water, rinse with clean water and dry.

Chrome: Methylated spirit or car care products.

Metal: Damp sponge with soapy water, rinse with clean water and dry.

NEVER use: - scouring products (powders or creams) and abrasive sponges - thinners, such as: solvents, acetone, white-spirit, benzine, etc… - silicone based cleaning products and paint restoration products (polish)

Glass table top

Glass is a high-performance and durable material, provided you keep to a few rules based on common sense:

• Make sure the table underframe is securely wedged, correctly centred and that the glass adheres permanently to its supports.

• Do not allow children to run or play nearby, especially with toys that can be thrown or projectile toys (balls, darts, air rifle, etc…), or on or under the table.

• Avoid impact on the edges and surface.

• Do not place any heavy loads, do not climb onto or sit on the glass.

!

Page 14: Maintenance guide - maison-deco.net€¦ · Stains on varnished and lacquered wood • Everyday cleaning: use a soft dry cloth or one dipped in warm water. • Tough stains: use methylated

• Never place hot or burning objects onto the glass without placing a good insulating layer in between.

• Place vases and trinkets carefully onto the glass.

• If you move house, or move the position of the table if it is heavy, lift the glass table top in pairs from one side and place it upright, package it and protect it, especially the corners, protect the faces and the edge resting against the floor using foam in the lorry, store and transport it vertically, with the largest side down.

• Do not rub the surface with metallic objects or with the back of your hand if you are wearing a ring (diamonds scratch glass), do not slide any objects along the surface (it could get scratched by any grains of sand).

• Clean using a glass cleaning products readily available on the market, to be used with a soft cloth or kitchen towels.

NEVER use: All types of abrasive or scouring products

• In the event of a chipped edge, a shard due to impact or a scratch, the glass could break unexpectedly from that point, even long after the initial event: give your dealer the reference number of your order for an identical replacement as soon as possible.

N.B.: if the glass is toughened, its resistance to heat, to heavy loads and to impact is considerably higher, and therefore offers increased safety.

Think of your childrenAs the heart of your home, the kitchen is the liveliest room where your family gets together

to share a meal or give your children a snack. However, your kitchen is also a place

for action, where you peel, chop, cook, open and close drawers and doors repeatedly.

We test our products both in terms of safety and resistance.

We have devised some safety systems suited to our drawers, unit doors and shelves,

but your kitchen remains a fantastic place for your children to explore.

It is the room where the most accidents occur statistically.

Some key points are worth your special attention:

• Always store cleaning products high up or under lock and key.

• Avoid falls, taking care that your children do not use doors

and drawers as steps or swings.

• When cooking, always turn the handles of your pans towards the wall,

out of children’s reach...

• Choose one-end mixer taps that reduce the risks of burns

and allow you to save on hot water.
