29TH, 30TH JUN 2013 The Founder was felicitated on his 80th birthday at dinner at the Royal Orchid. Everyone gathered to toast an inspiring milestone in an extraordinary life. Two birthday cakes were cut and many fond memories were shared over a delectable menu and some very enjoyable entertainment.

We come to the end of a very challenging year. The Indian economy has seen one of its most

trying times since 1991. The currency has played games with the industry and so have the markets. As an eternal optimistic, I still strongly believe that the India Growth story is a firm reality, notwithstanding the blip we are presently going through.

Designing and handling new products, consolidation of the organization and creating innovation solutions to deliver value to our customers are our continuous endeavours. Our various companies have continued to acquire new customers and businesses, both in India and overseas, and to strengthen the foundation that began 40 years ago.

It was a year of celebrations for everyone at the Maini Group, sharing the significant achievements over the years with all our stakeholders.

Gramothan Foundation's work was further consolidated and we’re now ready to share this sustainability model with others who’d like to contribute to society.

Chetan achieved a very important personal recognition. The Group is extremely proud of this. Our hearty congratulations to him!

Best wishes,– Sandeep Kumar Maini

Sports Ways23rd JUN 2013 Once a year, the athletes at Maini come out to show off their prowess and to decide who are the best and biggest sports. Friendly inter-company competitiveness asserts itself on track and field as well as in the stands where spectators, unabashedly partisan, cheered on their favourites.

This year too, had its winners and its good sports and, of course, the good time that was had by all.

Divas Sunday: Doubly good30TH JUN 2013 And then it was time for everyone to play: fun, feasting and sharing in the happy significance of two milestone birthdays. Balloons, clowns, sack races and

merry-go-rounds: prizes were handed out at day's end but everyone took home the feeling that comes when Sunday lives up and in this case, exceeded its expectations. A carnival atmosphere prevailed

Many happy returns 29TH, 30TH Jun 2013 There was another anniversary to be celebrated. The Maini group turned forty: 1973 was when Dr. sK Maini founded Maini Precision Products. 2013’s calendar was earmarked with an assortment of events and programmes that commemorated this landmark year and engaged the entire group family in several ways. an overview of some of the high points:

Waste managementZErO WASTE, HEALTHY SAVINGS Our zero philosophy influences all that we

do at Maini, including the aim to achieve zero waste. Waste management is basic to sustainable development and, to work, must be collectively addressed. Garbage in Bangalore is a serious issue, threatening

our city’s health, cleanliness and quality of

Cherished association40 yEaRs Of MaInI anD bOsCH 18TH SEP 2013 1973 also saw the beginning of one of Maini’s most cherished associations – with Bosch. As the Group grew from strength to strength, so did this association founded on mutual respect and shared vision which began when Dr. Maini joined Bosch 45 years ago, a simple, single step of momentous consequence.

This was paid tribute to, by our Founder and Chairman as well as by the Bosch CEO and the management at a private, well-attended dinner at a Vivanta by Taj hotel.

Literature green signal14TH, 15TH JUL 2013 The year saw also another milestone: the release of 'REVA EV India’s Green Gift to the World', Dr. Maini’s book chronicling the creation of an epoch-making car that placed India at the vanguard of the global EV movement.

Co-authored by Sandhya Mendonça, the book was launched for Group personnel at Oakwood Suites, UB City and then at Vivanta by Taj where Karnataka Minister for Higher Education and Tourism, the Honourable Shri R. V. Deshpande did the honours before a packed, invited audience of Bangalore book-lovers and notables.

life and only concerted, cohesive action by everyone involved can bring about positive change. At Maini, we decided to focus on paper and food waste management, and began by addressing waste reduction right at the source, with the wholehearted involvement of everyone in the Group. Communication – by discussion, posters, mailers and notice boards, among others – was key to raising awareness that we’re all in this together.

Now, throughout the Group, we recycle waste paper for stationery and food waste is composted and then used.

Effectively-monitored processes for prevention, reuse, recycling and appropriate disposal have thus significantly reduced waste. Achieving this has strengthened our commitment to sustainable development and we look to share our example, to motivate the industries around us.

GDI pump feasibility auditThe Magneti Marelli and Delphi visit

10TH -12TH dEC 2013 MPP Auto bagged a prestigious order to manufacture gasoline direct injection (GDI) pump bodies for Magneti Marelli, Italy, with the possibility of eventually supplying Delphi Automotive, for the US market. The GDI pump body is made from high-grade imported stainless steel and has very critical parameters with close tolerances and high positional accuracies.

A new GDI pump body production line at Bommasandra has been set up, comprising

of statutory machines like VMCs, as well as dedicated EC de-burring, pressing, crimping and leakage-testing machines. Further, the production line is being equipped with high-capability machines like Kitamura milling centres and Nakamura turn-mill centres.

Poka-yoke mistake-proofing is carried out at every stage, and a customized multi-gauging system has been developed and installed to check all critical characteristics right through assembly.

A senior team from Delphi USA along with one from Magneti Marelli, who visited us in Bommasandra last December for a manufacturing feasibility audit, left favourably impressed with our capabilities and our future plans.

We’re set to make the GDI pump body a benchmark within the Group, one which will pave the way for the manufacture of more such highly critical and precision parts.

Celebratory Branding

Our fortieth anniversary was celebrated on many levels and everyone in the Group entered into the spirit to

observe this commendable milestone. The special commemorative graphic designed was appended to email signatures and on other collaterals like the new Group brochure to signpost the year and the journey thus far.

Single-point collateral

The Group’s capability suite has been contained in a single brochure, as a handy introduction to Maini’s wide-

ranging array of products and services which has increased significantly in recent years. The diversity is such that this makes the best way for customers and other stakeholders to get

a quick overview regardless of the level or capacity they interact with the Group. Laid

out in an attractive, user-friendly way, the brochure serves as a curtain-raiser to the many ways Maini engages with these

stakeholders and the world at large.

Corporate video launch

Perhaps the key element in the branding initiative was the launch of the Group corporate video. A striking

presentation, its impact is heightened with appearances by the Founder who speaks

of “the Group’s very strong foundation of innovation, technology, quality, productivity and excellence”, the Chairman, Gautam and Chetan Maini. They are joined by CEOs as well as business partners such as Bosch whose joint MD Soumitra Bhattacharya commended a

relationship “that has spanned over 40 years” when the Maini Group has “demonstrated time and again why they are one of our preferred suppliers.” Sound bytes like these exemplify this vibrantly-mounted introduction to us, our philosophy and objectives.

Ayush grama project

A couple of years ago, with Arogya Foundation of India, we had selected one woman from every village in D.B.

Kuppe Taluk to be trained in home remedies in her own neighbourhood. All the trainees were illiterate. They were trained in home remedies, provided herbal medicines and shown how to source locally available herbs, and thus help to raise health awareness levels in their neighbourhoods.

guest at the training programme’s valedictory, proposed that Gramothan Foundation (GF) create a similar pilot Ayush Grama project under a public-private partnership.

As a result, the Department thought it fit to also form partnerships with several other reputed NGOs, apart from GF, to provide complete healthcare, education and environment conservation facilities. Ten grama panchayats in ten districts were selected for the pilot project, one of which was D.B Kuppe’s.

The project sought to establish an alternative lifestyle in accordance with Ayush principles. We appointed a doctor, two auxiliary nurse-midwives, set up and staffed an ayurvedic clinic supplying free medicines. The entire grama panchayat was divided into 13 sub-centres with a woman resident in each trained as a village health worker. We conducted several medical checkup camps exclusively for anganwadi and school children, expectant mothers and senior citizens.

Our regular scheduled visits to these centres are helping us understand and address their healthcare needs. Apart from this, our

staff and village workers conduct regular awareness programs on safe drinking water, mosquito-borne diseases and good eating habits among others.

Trainees learn their herbs

COUNSELLING A major achievement was being able to conduct regular alcohol de-addiction counseling which has had a positive outcome in many cases. Considering ours is the only medical doctor available round the clock in the village, the programme’s significance has increased dramatically. As a three-year programme, it has the potential to address make a real difference in this part of community life that does needs addressing.

Organic farming

To propagate the message of clean food that’s free from pesticides and other chemicals, we leased 18 pooled acres

of land from 12 farmers for three years for organic cultivation as part of a technical tie-up with Organic Wayanad, Kerala.

The crops we can grow include cereals and pulses such as wheat, paddy, ragi, horsegram, green gram, urad dal; a variety of herbs, vegetables and fruit such as dhaniya, beans, ginger, turmeric, and banana apart from others like sugarcane.

The farm in the picture was used to show farmers in the area how to adopt our methods, ones which use pest repellents and high-grade natural fertilizers –keeta niyantrak

and vermi-compost made of gou mootra and cow dung as base ingredients.

In a year, the demand for our product has grown significantly and recently the global GAP (UN)-certified agro farming and marketing chain from Kerala called Aroma Fresh has proposed a marketing tie-up which will take our organic produce directly to the consumer.
