Main Task: Film Trailer
Shutter Island The trailer for Shutter Island is very
conventional to the thriller genre as it gives the impression of “something bigger” going on: more than meets the eye. This inspired the creation of my trailer and plot in that the “something bigger” would be The Cult. This creates an enigma code because although the audience know something else is there, they will not know the true extent until they watch the film.
Skeleton Key The Skeleton Key has very strong influences of
cults, ritualism and witchcraft which greatly inspired my first ideas that the trailer I was making should centre around a cult. This film gave the basis for my ideas and the supernatural element is something I think would work very well in relation to the thriller elements of my trailer.
A Nightmare On Elm Street This film and it’s trailer has greatly influenced
me in terms of imagery and framing of shots which has also influenced the creation of the plotline. Both of these shots have influenced shots that I
plan to use in my own trailer to convey conventions and evoke the right emotions within the audience.
House At The End of the Street The trailer for H.A.T.E.S. caught my attention
because of it’s reverse editing techniques. This inspired the ideas in terms of plot that maybe the protagonist had to “go back” in order to uncover what she was missing. Jennifer Lawrence’s character is also very much like the protagonist I am hoping to portray.
Pretty Little Liars
Although this isn’t a film, this TV programme has greatly influenced me. It has a thriller element and it’s protagonists are all teenage females who know someone that’s gone missing, much like the protagonist in my trailer who is the same age and looking for someone. This is a picture I took whilst
watching an episode and would like to replicate it for the opening scene of our trailer as I think it is framed very well.
