Good afternoon, and welcome toWalton Lane for today’s SouthernCombination Football League Division Twofixture with Rustington.We extend a warm welcome to the visitingplayers, officials and supporters fromRustington, and also welcome today’s matchreferee, Neal Saxton from Wisborough Green.A very special welcome also to today’smascot, Jack Gray, whose dad, Stuart was aformer Robins player in late 90’s.This is our third meeting with Rustington thisseason, having met twice in consecutiveweekends at the start of October.The first brought a 4-0 victory at JubileeAvenue in the reverse of today’s Leaguegame, followed up by a 2-0 win here atWalton Lane in the second round of theSussex Intermediate Cup, seven days later.However, that game brought with it a changein management and a much improved displayfrom the blues, with Jon Tucker taking overthe reigns for a second time.The addition of new faces has seenRustington climb away from the foot of thetable to be one of the form sides in theLeague, producing four wins and two drawsfrom their last six games, and only twodefeats from their last nine in allcompetitions since we won back in Octoberin the cup.Last time out Rustington secured a 3-0triumph at Cowfold, so the signs are that weare in for a tough afternoon.It was pleasing to get past Westfield onSaturday in the Intermediate Cup to book ourplace in the quarter-finals, in what was adramatic end to the game.Leading one-nil through Bradley Miles’ goalon the hour, Westfield sub Martin Dobinsonequalised with a minute of normal time toplay. With extra-time looming large, we dug

in and gained a penalty in the fourth minuteof stoppage time, which was duly dispatchedby Graeme Dowden; before MarcoGiambelardini added gloss to the score linewith virtually the last kick of the match!Another home tie – this time against AFCVarndeanians – awaits in the last eight, givingthe boys a great opportunity to experienceanother game under lights – always specialnights for the club - should we progress to thesemi’s. But a lot of football to be played priorto this on January 14, including our big localderby at Sidlesham on Boxing Day – would begreat to see some of you there to cheer theboys on against one of our main rivals in whatis an eagerly anticipated fixture (11am k.o).One fixture amendment – it is now highlylikely that our scheduled away trip toClymping will be switched to Walton Lane onJanuary 2 (11am k.o) due to Clymping beingunable to play at either their home grounddue to land owner issues, or their temporaryhome at Littlehampton Town due to a fixtureclash on the same day.Clymping welcomed our offer, and we’re justawaiting the Parish Council’s RecreationGrounds Committee to confirm the additionalfixture, but see little issue in this passed.Frank Antony’s reserves travel to Liss Athleticthis afternoon in their last WyvernCombination East fixture of 2016, with TimPark and James Johnson on the score sheet ina 4-2 defeat at Alrestford Town on Saturday.There’s one last chance to get your tickets forour Christmas Prize Draw, ahead of the drawitself in the bar after today’s game.Entry just 50p a square, to be in with achance to win.
