TOTAL SANITATION CAMPAIGN
Objective of IECincrease awareness among the rural peoplegeneration of demand for sanitary facilities.IEC focuses on community-led & people centered
initiatives.spreading hygiene education. Eliminate ODF only by changing the mindset of
people through an intensive IEC.Creating awareness,sensitization and motivation of
people to follow the right hygiene, sanitation and water handling practices.
CONSTRAINTS• Large geographical area. • Dense population.• 10 blocks having hilly & interior areas.• Open Defecation 69%.Before campaign.• Not having mindset to built toilets.• Many more people not having finance for
construction.• Some were not having land.• Technological awareness.
District Level STRATEGIES
• Idendification of Target.(A,B,C & D)• Focused IEC in three steps 1. School students 2. Village community 3. GP member, VWSC member, co-
operative society at village level,Elected members, village level community leaders, masons etc.
• Adopt Approches :- Preventive, Curative & Developmental.• Creating IEC module.• Supportive activity.• Technical & Non technical IEC plan i.e. hygine education,
Mason training.• IEC for involvement of various Stake Holders • Putting various option of sanitation according geographical
condition through IEC.• Generate community pariticipation• Regular Impact Assessment of IEC and innovations
accordingly.
Analysis of DATA• At dist. Level District Water & Sanitation Commit implemented.• Sanitation Survey was conducted in all GP in 2003• The division of families who were without toilets facilities is as
below.

• Sanitation pledge is an part of Sanitation week in which all representatives & officials pledge for sanitation.
NIRMAL NIRDHAR JYOT• 21st Jan. 2008 – Nirmal Nirdhar Jyot of
Maharashtra State inaugurated by Hon’ble State Minister Mr. Ajit Pawar in Kolhapur.
Spread the message of need of toilets & cleanliness in the homes to maintain
good hygienic condition.
Small Hygiene Motivators (SWACHATA DOOT)
44 master trainers in turn trained 6526 teachers from different blocks of the district
These 6526 teachers from different blocks of district propagated their knowledge to the students
These activities resulted in creation of huge workforce of more than 1,00,000 students for TSC.

1.Four Audio Jingals regularly released on Local FM, & Akashwani Radio.
2. Eight visuals for technical option, toilet construction, best sanitation hobbits etc. released through local cable network & News channels in District.

In campaign period around 3,35,051 toilet constructed and are being use.
Rs. 167 crores sanitation infrastructure created.
